So I wondered by Kamis' had an Asymmetrical grind... only one side to your face of course!
This is not something you do everytime so they do give a good shave when using the "other side"?

I have a mixture of Kamisoris - both full Japanese with asymmetrical grind and western style which have more common (to Westerners) symmetrical grind. You can use the Japanese ground Kamisori however you like - it's your razor! It shaves OK the "wrong way around". I shave the traditional way with the Japanese for two reasons : I started using Kamisoris because I was captivated by the romance, history and cultural significance they had, and it seems appropriate to use them in the way they were intended to be used, and secondly : the right angle with a kamisori is very different to a DE because of the single bevel grind. The Kamisori needs to be held at about 45 degrees to the face compared to about 30 degrees for a DE. Things are more extreme if you use the other side of the Kami - you need to keep it at more like 5-10 degrees. I find the difference too large to make for clean, reliable shaving.

Hope this makes sense :) And perhaps @khun_diddy will be kind enough to share his spin on it with us.

Thanks for that. I'll will get one at some stage.

I have no idea how you do a 5 minute 3 pass shave. I'd barely be starting my first pass at 5mins. Got to fill the sink, load the brush, make the lather, tweak the lather, apply the lather... That's at least a couple of mins right there!
Yep; that's me ... ... ... sloooow
But you've inspired me. I'll go for a quicky tomorrow.
Nah; I don't think so. Go sloooow and enjoy the whole "production/theatre" of wet shaving.

Today it was the Iwasaki Kamisori's turn in the spotlight. It's far from the sexiest Kamisori in my collection - no trace of bling whatsoever.

Sorry, but I have to absolutely disagree with that one my friend: this is a truly stunning razor, elegantly simply and clean line - beautiful!

THANK YOU GOOD SIR!!! All this madness about shaving quickly...what's the point? I face lather FOR AT LEAST 5 min. And not because I have to - because I CAN :p

Speed is good to have when you need it, not something you should be striving for every day. If that's the case, get an electric!

You have "the eye" though, @alfredus - and like me, a preference for Elegance sans Bling

You are so on the money mate : a minute's shaving time saved is a minute's deep enjoyment wasted :(

An electric? With a crap result that wrecks your skin? No way!

I shave every day, often early before heading to the airport to catch a plane.

Most mornings shaving is, for me, a 6-7 minute routine. The quality of that routine has improved dramatically - but it is still a routine.

On some occasions I will take more time and care - it might be 10 - 12 minutes.

I haven't got the patience for a 30 minute shave - what do you do with that time?

Sorry, stone me now ...

Yep guess that's why I like to shave at night, I have time luxuriate in a lather of calm. I've been taking 25 minutes. Talking of which....

If I shaved at night I'd wake up with a 5 o'clock shadow

Razor:Fatboy (5)
Blade:Polsilver SI (2)
Brush:Epsilon Horsehair 'chubby'
Soap/Cream: Mikey Lee Soapworks 'The Kraken'
Aftershave: Alum, Thayers Cucumber, Trumpers Coral Skin Food

Outstanding BBS. This soap is really worth seeking out, great slip, scent and face feel.

The joys of being a teacher is that going to work with a 5 o'clock shadow means you're still better groomed than the rest of the staff.

Sad :(

Not true at my wife's school though!

Try giving it a long soak. Like a few hours. There's no reason why it shouldn't be absolutely stellar. Especially with that Shavemac.
I'll try soaking it. I've been using it to break it my boar brush, not using it to shave. It's very weird, same brand soap but the lavender scent works like magic. But just not this puck. I'll keep going at it.

Razor:Weber Polished Head on Bulldog Handle
Blade: Personna 'Lab' Blue (5)
Brush:Vintage butterscotch Simpson
Soap/Cream: CRSW Bergamot & Bay
Aftershave: Captain's Choice Cat 'o' Nine Tails
Time: 7:57

Tried to take my time this morning, still didn't take that much longer ...

In other news, Personna on last legs, CRSW make an OUTSTANDING soap and 'the cat' doesn't have as much bite as many say.

Overall another great shave ...

Razor:Gillette slim
Blade: vintage wilky
Brush:omega
Soap/Cream: shave heaven eucalyptus and lavender
Aftershave: aqua velva
Time: between 6 and 7 minutes including shower, 12 minutes to fully dressed with hair and teeth brushed with the appropriate brushes.
It wasn't even rushed. I left the bedroom at 7:01 + whatever seconds were on the clock, and got back in there at 7:07 +
1 pass north to south
1 south to north, and
1 eastish to westish depending on which side of the face.
In other words my usual routine.
I don't know how it is possible that anyone can spend 30 minutes or more shaving unless you are apologising to each individual hair for cutting it*

*unless you are straight shaving then I can understand being very careful

Preshave: Proraso Green
Razor: Edwin Jagger DE89 with Windrose handle
Blade: Personna med prep
Brush: Shavemac177
Post Shave: Nivea balm and Floid Vigoroso
Three pass shave to BBS and a feeling of inner peace. Last of the Pannacrema sample but I enjoyed this soap so much I ordered some full tubs. The Sanfrancesco has a very pleasant scent and the lather is excellent. Thick and yogurt like and plentiful. Being self employed I can luxuriate in the experience of shaving so it took me twenty minutes this morning. There can be no better way to start the day, or end it for that matter, than indulging yourself in the experience of wet shaving.
