Soap: Razorock XXX
Brush: Epsilon Horsehair 'Chubby'
Razor: EJ89
Blade: Polsilver SI (3)
Post-shave: Speick

A soap I haven't used in a while. The XXX lathered up superbly and quickly, I'd forgotten how much I liked it.
I pulled out the EJ89 for the first time in months. It took 4 passes above the neck to get a DFS, but it was super smooth. I can't believe this was the same razor that gave me nicks and burns when I started out. It seems almost impossible to cut myself with this razor. I might try and add a different handle though, to see if it improves the efficiency. Any suggestions?
I use a Windrose handle on mine(check the photos on my SOTD). Picked it up on ebay and it is a little heavier than the standard handle. Whether it helps in the efficiency department is a good question. Due to the weight I am conscious of not applying any pressure and with a sharp blade I can get a near BBS with two passes. A sharp blade works well in this mild razor.

Face Wash : Musgo Real Lime Menthol Glycerine Soap
Pre-Shave : Myrsol Emulsion
Brush : Antiga Barbearia Boar Bristle
Soap : Le Pere Lucien - Cedre & Patchouli
Razor : Ikon Slant DLC
Blade : Polsolver SI [2]
After Shave : Alum, Witch Hazel, Fine Platinum (Menthol Boosted)

Another great DE shave today...

Started with a fairly standard but thorough prep, and put the little Boar Brush through its paces creating a beautifully slick lather from the LPL soap. I've tended to write this soap off a bit in the past - the Cedar and Patchouli scent is very heavy handed and strong, no subtlety here. But the soap does produce a very shaveable lather, so it's earned a reprieve from the assorted box of things that didn't quite work out as hoped. Decided on a bit of a change of pace in the razor department today, and pulled out the Ikon Slant DLC. I love this razor not just for its very efficient shaving and its ability to run very sharp blades comfortably, but also for its loud "voice" when shaving. It's the most vocal DE I've ever used - as soon as the razor is actually cutting whiskers, along come the great sound effects. It helps when doing the final spot control of the shave, knowing just from the acoustic feedback whether a particular area really is BBS. Needless to say, I ended up with an incredibly smooth shave and haven't been able to stop facesturbating since. Finished with alum (surprisingly little sting for such a close shave), a squirt of Witch Hazel, then some menthol boosted Fine Platinum that I can still feel 1/2 hour later. Definitely ready for the day...

@bald as - great to see you back and in good spirits :D I can definitely relate to what you say about blood thinners and technique - what a motivation to get it right  You may well end up with the best technique of anybody here at P&C :)

Thanks @Draco Noir I have recently acquired 2 symmetrical kamisori style blades from @Robbie d that he made. I'm very pleased at the edge each blade has taken but until I have a serious chat with my cardiologist about the potential for cuts that won't stop bleeding I will refrain from these blades and my straights. I have always been a bit of a coward as far as cutting myself but now a bit more so. My Featherweight SE would take a concerted effort to cut myself so it may be the razor of choice for awhile. An excellent shave but as exciting as paint drying. :)

That's a damn shame @bald as!
Surely nothing a bit of pressure and a pause won't fix? We're not talking cutting veins here, just nicks in the skin????? Still, what do I know so good idea to check with your cardiologist.

I was very interested to read your review of Robbie's Kamisori and did speak to him about them but not to the point of placing an order. You are obviously sold enough to buy two of them!

My concern is based on this is a new to me blood thinner. I will feel better after the first full straight shave so I can see how the skin behaves. As much as I love the feel and appearance of a true Kamisori grind I have never had a good shave yet. Me not the razor though. The symmetrical Kamisori style is wonderful and the one's I now have are dynamic and for me a much easier blade to use. @Draco Noir has 2 symetrical Kamisoris I believe.

@bald as - I'm certain you'll find a path through all of this that lets you shave the way you want to (y) I couldn't agree with you more as far as symmetrical Kamisoris are concerned. They are a true pleasure to shave with, and they can give awesomely good shaves. Oh, and I have 5 of them these days I like them so much :sneaky:

Gee it has been nearly two hours and the vultures have not swooped and offered to take your straights and kamisori off your hands.

This is amazing and demonstrates the regard in which you are held around here mate. :notworthy::notworthy::notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:

Pre: GFT Limes SF
Badger: Shavemac 177
Soap: Saponificio Varesino 70th Anniversary
Razor: iKon B1 OSS safety bar side
Blade: Feather
Post: Alum, WH TH Aloe, The Stray Whisker aftershave balm

This is the second time I used the Sv. Used a chubby 2 yesterday for this, the results were not great unfortunately. Although I didn't get razor burned too badly, just slightly. Today I decided to go with a shavemac.

Wringed the brush dry, added a little water on the top of the soap and ready to load.

First WTG pass's lather was a little dry and pasty, so it wasn't that great.

Continued to add more droplets of water into my lather bowl and lathered a little more for second XTG pass. Not ideal but was better pass than first.

For the last pass, I dipped the brush into my steel bowl where I prepare to keep clean water and lather then repeat this a few more times, the lather that is produced seemed glossier and looked even more hydrated. Applied it onto my face and whoa! So much slick and my razor just glides, reminds me of that perfect Mdc shave. Even though it's ATG pass, it was very smooth and I really enjoyed this soap. Did a clean up pass and BBS.

I guess this soap is definitely a thirsty one. Way thirstier than what I am used to. I'll keep to this soap for a week to get it right. It is harder to use than the Mdc but it has a very nice scent to it. So masculine.

Conclusion: good SOTD.
