@Mark1966 it nearly 12:20pm in London as I'm on my way out to lunch for another big day at the UGLE, bloody great lather you've got there @Mark1966 keep on trying and practicing you're lather skills and the more you look at it and it's going to make you cry like you've just falling in love with you're lather ;)

@Mark1966 did you face, bowl or hand lather you're skills ?????????

Cheers ;)

I used the technique here The perfect lather the last couple of shaves.

It does take a little longer but you can play with it and 'perfect' the process. Effectively a bowl build and a hand finish. I don't think you can get the same results on your face alone.

Preshave: GFT Limes SF
Brush: Shavemac 177
Soap: Martin de Candre Fougere, sample thanks to @filobiblic
Razor: iKon B1 OSS
Blade: Feather
After shave: Thayer WH aloe, L'Occitane Shea butter with rose oil

Thanks to filo, I managed to sample this wonderful soap. You really don't need that much to produce that great lather, however, from this sample run, I believe by running the @alfredus perfect lather post, results would be amazing. The soap provided great protection and slickness against the blade. I never felt so confident about going ATG, until I met Martin. Truly strong performer. Scent is amazing too. Herbaceous and clean. Definitely adding MdC to the den in near future. After shave feel was so great, I completely forgotten about my alum block. Finished off with some witch hazel and for once, tried something different - L'Occitane's pure Shea butter with rose oil. Another good shave.

Brush: Shavemac 2-band
Soap: Shaver Heaven 1st Anniversary
Razor: Eclipse Red Ring
Blade: Gillette Bleue Extra
After-shave splash: Speick Classic
After-shave balm: Shaver Heaven 1at Anniversary

Blade: Wilkinson Sword 'Light Brigade' (3)
Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpson 'The Duke'
Soap/Cream: D R Harris Marlborough

No time to muck around with the perfect lather today - but a great face lather nonetheless.

The Miller Harris is 'Reminiscent of the smoky, romantic brasseries of Saint-Germain.' I wouldn't know but it smells good!

We missed you at the Sydney meet on Sunday @cranky (and you literally live a few 'burbs away!). [emoji6]

Have you checked out @Monsta_AU 's extensive comparison of Gillette blades? There are tonnes of blade reviews and comparisons buried in these forums...

I understand that Gillette Bleue Extra are no longer produced. (But I'm not certain as I've heard that there may still be very limited stock coming from France as you say...) My stock all come from the early 2000's. Price could be a factor as well. @Monsta_AU can chip in here...

I find them perfect in the right razor -which I find to be the OCs. They last anywhere from 5-8 shaves for me. I'm
Not a fan of the Gillette Silver Blues (I'm assuming you are referring to the current production blades -see earlier Gillette comparison thread). But I haven't tried them for a while. Other than @Monsta_AU I think @Nightguard could chip in with his comments in comparing these blades.

Other than blades, there are some terrific soaps that come from France. I'd go for these as they'd be easier for your family to acquire and you can't get a lot of them here. (Eg Asses Milk soap @LifesaPeach @Draco Noir - what's the name?)

Razor: Gillette Slim
Blade: Vintage Wilkinson Sword (5ish)
Brush: Omega 10005
Soap/Cream: Stirling Glacial Obsidian
Aftershave: None - the toddler needed immediate attention that only a dad can provide so I didn't get chance to put any on.

Didn't time this one, but it would have taken a fair bit longer than my usual shaves as the Stirling soap took a long time to get to the right texture. Loaded it up as per usual, but it seemed much thirstier than normal this morning. Eventually got it right and had a good 2 pass shave, but that was all I could fit in as the 14 month old was demanding I make him breakfast.

Thanks filobiblic for your comments, yes sorry i missed the meet up i was working nightshift would have been good to catch up with everyone.
i have some soaps already on the hit list from France i was just wondering about the blades.
the GSB's are one of my favourite blades and work for me in all my razors.

G'day ;)

It's nearly 11:25 pm London time and bloody cold outside :confused:

Brush: RazoRock Plissoft
Razor: Razorock Mission
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (3)
Soap/Cream: Haslinger Sheeps Milk & Lanolin (very similar to MWF)
Post/After Shave: T.N. Dickinson Witch Hazel Astringent / Natio Maximum Razor Relief Healing Lotion
Fragrance: Tabac EDT
Time: Who cares I'm enjoying myself wet shaving, love making a bloody mess and clean up after I'm done.

I was have dinner at the pub call 'Freemasons Arms - Shepherd Neame' along Long Acre near the corner of Arne St not far from the UGLE, I've come across a gentlemen from the lodge who is a huge fan of wet shaving and his sister works at the 'Taylor of Old Bond Street'. So tomorrow afternoon he going to take me to the 'Taylor of Old Bond Street' in West of London and he get a very special Freemason shaving supply discount for me during my Masonic stay in London, I haven't had the chance to visited all the shaving shops in West of London as I'm heading to Scotland on Friday so I make sure I grab something to take home with me at 'Taylor of Old Bond Street' which is going to be very interesting.

Cheers ;)

That's awesome, TOBS creams and splashes are top notch. The Avocado cream and the grapefruit are two of my favourites.

Soap : Sudsy Soapery - Citrus & Bay
Razor : Wolfman WR1-SB

After Shave : LaRoche-Posay Lipikar, Alvarez Gomez EDC

Today's shave dedicated to @Psmith  and @alfredus :)

A great, simple shave today. I realised I hadn't used this great little Boar Bristle brush for way too long, and decided to put things right. I was also in the mood for a citrus fragrance with some extra depth and complexity. The Sudsy Soapery Citrus & Bay fitted the bill just perfectly. I whipped up a face lather to die for today - between following some of @alfredus methods for lathers and the Boar Brush, it was much quicker and easier than I imagined beforehand. I don't need to say much about the performance of the Wolfman - @alfredus has covered it pretty thoroughly over the months, and my experience with the razor is pretty much exactly the same as his. With a sharp blade, this razor really whispers through the whiskers leaving a trail of BBS skin in its wake. It has enough weight to allow the razor to really do the work without any pressure from the operator at all.

The Alvarez Gomez kept up the fragrance theme of citrus with complexity, and provided a wonderful finish to a great Wolfman powered shave :)

I am but flesh and bone. Just signed up to the Wolfman newsletter today.

Pre: Occams Lime
Brush: Semogue 1800
Soap: Shaver Heaven - Absolution
Razor: Tanifuji 6/8 Hollow
Post: Alum, Thayers WH with Aloe, Shaver Heaven "The Teller" Balm

One word - WOW!
@Anthony this is just amazing stuff. Glide up the wazoo. Check my full comments under the Absolution thread. Went three passes yesterday (with a SH vegan, have only been doing two passes) and again today but the result is chalk a cheese. The extra ATG smoothness/glide was astounding. Near BBS and very little irritation.

Today's Shave (Tue 15)

Another very fine DE shave today. After the usual prep, I face-lathered using the Chubby and the excellent smelling Catie's Bubbles soap. A dense, glossy and cushioning lather was easy to create on my face using the technique of adding of tiny amounts of water while lathering. And then today's razor choice - the Tradere Solid Bar DE. <rant> What a beautiful razor this is, a really elegant design executed flawlessly. Add perfect heft and balance and near perfect head geometry and you have a razor that seems impossibly efficient for its incredible comfort factor. No wonder you never see them on the 'Bay - people just don't let go of them. Of course, it invites inevitable comparisons with the mighty Wolfman, and the only conclusion I can draw is that they both produce the same exceptional result, but each has its own unique personality and feel. </rant> It did a wonderfully comfortable job of shaving me - 2 passes to BBS almost everywhere. Finished up with a couple of the usual suspects, then a splash of Floid's Black Label AS. A thoroughly enjoyable shave..

Apart from being confused by two shaves today @Draco Noir I have to say that the Tradere beats the Wolkman hands down looks wise ...

Uh, sorry @Mark1966, my bad - The first one was yesterday's shave - I forgot to press the "Post Reply" button on it last night and it disappeared into the great lost property bucket of Cyberspace...

Second point, yes the Tradere really is a looker isn't it..

Ahhhh, so I'm not the only one to do that from time to time ...

I have been tempted by the Tradere in the past but never at the right time
