Shave of the Day Thread - 2017

@todras - I had a squiz at their website, and the notes on the Lanolin Unscented Shaving Soap says the following - "...as well as an unscented lanolin version for those (like me) who dig its earthy scent and skin soothing benefits." (underlining by me)

I saw that, at a pinch I would have to say there is a bit of a chasm between 'earthy' and the smell of acrid, fetid acidity. I mean it's not overpowering, but it's not something you want to lay a delicate accord down over the top of.

Would Anthony at SH have any contacts for unscented soap bases if he is no longer producing them?
Just out of curiosity, have you contacted @Anthony? I know he sid he was out of the game, but he did mention that he could possibly be persuaded to make some small batch soaps for sellers possibly... Wouldn't hurt to ask him if he may be in a position to provide you with a small batch every once in a while? Worst he can say is no

I never met him while he was in the game and don't really know him, it's worth considering I guess. I will think about it, but the more I do the more I think that I am a little over the soap angle - it's a lot of work and I am realising I would rather concentrate on what I enjoy and do best to be honest.

I never met him while he was in the game and don't really know him, it's worth a shot even if it was a case of asking him to do a limited run of 4 scents and 5 or 6 tubs each or something I guess. i will think about it, to be frank I am a little over the soap angle - it's a lot of work and I think I would rather concentrate on what I enjoy and do best to be honest.
Quite fair enough too. May as well concentrate on what you're passionate about at the moment, and when you're a bit more established (and hopefully less time poor) you might be able to invest in some soaps.

Brush: Windsor Boar
Razor: Weber PH
Blade: Aussie Spoiler
Soap: LpL Traditional
A/S: Floid Vigoroso

Pretty certain I could happily use the Weber exclusively and never get tired of it.

Birthday shave!
The soap and splash arrived today, courtesy of @stillshunter, and both performed admirably. The scent on the soap is mellow, but nice and the splash smells just lovely.
I wasn't really sure which razor/blade I wanted to go with, but eventually settled on the slim (4) with personna red.
Clean shaven and smelling fine for dinner and drinks with friends.

DR Harris Sandalwood is a ripper.

Great looking shave there @Snooze . (y) I definately have to get some of that soap in the future, it gets such positive comments about the post shave feel and there's some really intriguing scents! How's slickness and cushion?

Thanks @Benjamin - the Tabula Rasa is amazing stuff. Its really a soft croap (cream/soap) and lathers really easily. Makes loads of slick creamy lather whatever brush you use. Great protection and the post shave feel is really something. I also like the large tub it comes in, with plenty of room. "Tabula Rasa" means "clean slate" so Im not sure what they are getting at there. Maybe a "fresh start" of a new type of shaving soap?? I would heartily recommend this one(y)(y)(y)

Ok, I'm sold. Take my money Tabula Rasa! Thanks for the feedback @Snooze .

Honoured to play a supporting role in your birthday shave mate. Hope your day is even better than the shave

Pre: Myrsol Emulsion
Brush: Shavemac 177
Soap: MdC
Razor: HG Razor Custom kamisori
Post: alum, witch hazel, TSW After Balm, APR AC sample

Lather got a little dry at the end. May need to consider loading longer in the future. Has been a while since I used this soap.

Aftershave was top notch, matches very well with the Fougere scented soap of mine. Many thanks to @todras for the generous sample. True quality product!

Pre: Valobra Glycerlanolina soap, Myrsol Antesol and Emulsion
Brush: Savile Row 3824 Silvertip Badger
Soap: Tabula Rasa Cardamom
Razor: ATT Kronos open comb M2
Blade: Vintage Personna 74 (5)
Post: Myrsol Antesol and Emulsion
Splash: Penhaligon Bayolia

Tabula Rasa - Berlin's finest (IMO). Wonderful scents (courtesy of Erik Kormann), and a luxurious lather that provides superlative glide and protection. Residual slickness fair to good, and a stellar post-shave feel; probably the best of any of my soaps.
Three passes and clean up for a BBS shave. The warm, spicy soap scent was nicely complemented by the Bayolia splash.

Wolfman SB
Voskhod
Paladin "Falstaff"
Catie's Bubbles "La Piment de la Vie"

Great shave with the Catie's Bubbles today. This is a soap that I personally feel is highly underrated in Australia and doesn't get the attention it deserves. I got a dense, stable and very protective lather from the soap today. My only complaint is that it was not as slick as I would have liked, that being said I didn't add anywhere near as much water as I could have and suspect that this had an effect on that aspect.

I agree 100% with your comments about the Tabula Rasa @TomG.
I havent tried the Cardamom - when this year of austerity is over might pick some up :(

Ive always been curious about Caties Bubbles to be honest, it gets some great reviews. Personally I don't like the artwork and I guess that's something important to me for things that live in my Bathroom. I know that's probably a bit fickle, but I had the same issue with SH soaps - I just could not abide them of a morning despite the soap being excellent.
