Brush: Vulfix 403 Pure Badger
Razor: EJ 89
Blade: Scottish Perma Sharp
Soap: OSP Bay Rum
A/S: TOBS Victorian Limes

Recently my son gave me as a gift a quite expensive brand new straight razor. Naturally he was told it was shave ready by the store. I knew most likely it wouldn't be shave ready but decided to shave with it. :) I didn't check it with a magnifier to see the condition, 1 cm done my cheek told me I would be better off plucking the whiskers by hand. It is sad to think people are given high quality blades that are so well made but will not shave - comfortably if at all. The bevel looked like it had been "sharpened" with a fine file.

I washed off the soap and went to the hones and reset the blade from the bevel up and finished on a very fine finisher. 200 passes on a leather strop and try shaving again. Wow!! What a magnificent blade. The blade took a truly sensational edge.

Tonight I used the same blade and was equally impressed.

Boar brush, my soap and a great razor gifted by my son.

Razor: GEM 'E' bar
Blade: GEM (3)
Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpson
Soap/Cream: Phoenix & Beau 'Baskerville' shaving soap
Aftershave Splash: Australian Private Reserve (APR) 'Lavande Violette' splash
Cologne: N/A

Hmmm, nice.

How do you compare your Tanifuji to your other straight razors?
Love it @Pbgoose - prob one of my favourite straights - I think I prefer more wedge to the blade - the full hollows give a lot of audible feedback but I like the more "solid" feel of the quarter/half hollows if that makes sense.

A nice shower as a start...
razor: merkur 42c
blade: wilkinson (maybe the 7th shave?)
brush: yaqi synthetic
soap: APR CdV
balm: APR CdV
EdP: APR CdV

Great shave. This morning I was in the office wharf having a break-smoke and a little penguin has passed just 2 meters from me swimming. Probably it was a female and so, got attracted by the scent ha ha :D

getPart

brush : brand unknown , badger
Soap : TOBS Almond shave cream
Razor : 1960 Super Speed , Merkur 1904 open comb
Blade: Voskhod (2)
Balm :TOBS Mr Taylor luxury aftershave balme

Was not a good shave after only doing a few strokes i was finding a lot of stubble left ,not sure where the problem was so i changed razor to the 1904 open comb and got a good result , no blood no burn but still a disappointing shave .

Razor: Parat
Blade: permasharp (1)
Soap: warden
Brush: high mountain whipped dog
Post: TSW balm and swagger
Frag: CK be
You know your doing it right when you skip a morning shave in favour of an arvo one cause u have evening plans on a Monday

Pre: Valobra Glycerlanolina soap, Myrsol Emulsion
Brush: Savile Row 3824 Silvertip Badger
Cream: Kapo Fresh
Razor: ATT Kronos M2
Blade: Vintage Gillette Platinum Plus (2)
Post: Argo Neo Gold Balm
EDP: APR Mycroft

The fruits of Bulgaria to the fore! I really enjoy both the Kapo cream and Argo balm.
The Kapo cream produces an excellent lather - up there with the best for slickness (for a cream). It has a clean fresh scent, and is a pleasure to use.
Three passes and I am BBS and feeling great. A shout-out to @Monsta_AU for recommending the vintage Platinum Plus blades - they are outstanding performers.
The Argo balm has a masculine tobacco flower scent, and leaves the skin smooth and well moisturised.

And the outrageous price for these fine products............................
75 cents for the cream and 90 cents for the balm!

In other news, my early morning SOTD -

Razor: GEM 'E' bar
Blade: GEM (4)
Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpson 'The Duke'
Soap/Cream: Phoenix & Beau 'Baskerville' shaving soap
Aftershave Splash: Australian Private Reserve (APR) 'Lavande Violette' splash
Cologne: N/A

@Mark1966 isn't an E-bar a n Ever-ready? ;)

On not so exciting news, my SOTD:
Brush: Muhle Silvertip Synthetic
Soap: Phoenix & Beau Star Noir
Razor: Rotbart (Redbeard) 5031
Blade: Nacet (3)
A/S: Nivea Two-phase
Post: Sorbolene cream

Love this razor, light, efficient and sets a blade in seconds due to two piece design. Star Noir has a lovely scent with base of funk and excellent slickness.

Enjoy your day.

Hmmm, somebody is paying close attention to my SOTD posts, more than I am! From memory I thought the 'G' and 'E' bars were on the cusp of the Ever-ready / Gem changeover. I will have to check my actual razor in hand when I get home tonight :)

...Enjoy your day.

Bit hard NOW - I will be sweating on this issue all day :(

Haha I know you, it's like water off a ducks back (y)
To provide some solace there is a lot of information and equal part misinformation on the histories of GEM, Ever-ready and Star out there. Who owned who and when and if they licensed the design or 'borrowed' it as international patents were not enforced etc etc.

You could say my Rotbart 5031 is a Gillette as they owned Rotbart at the time (correct me if I'm wrong) of manufacture but it isn't fair to the employees of Rotbart to say they were Gillette (don't mention the war :muted:).
From what I've read out there is E-Bars were first made by Ever-Ready and GEM made them later as G-Bars, again correct me if I'm wrong.

Either way great mild, smooth & efficient shavers, one of my favourite SEs as I find the older GEMs/ERs blade hooks/retainers can be felt or rough :punch:. Now where did I hide my 1924 :sneaky:
