Jabonman Madreselva
Australian Private Reserve jasmine et thé blanc Balm
Australian Private Reserve jasmine et thé blanc Aftershave

Manuel's take on Honeysuckle (Madreselva) is wonderful, it rests on a base of warm Myrrh and hits the right top notes with a delicate scent that like all of his fragrances, is suitable and not unnecessarily overstated in design. While being an older soap I was lucky enough to pick up in a BST, it lathers beautifully as with all the Jabonman range, I may even have a chat with Manuel about him reintroducing it as it's an uncommon fragrance and would lend itself very well to the tallow formula.

Two great passes with the ATT this morning then on with the Jasmine & White tea, I made this a while ago as a private fragrance and it has been maturing quietly, its a fairly simple perfume of Oakmoss, Amber, White Tea and Jasmine Absolute and imparts a subtly powdery base so the Jasmine can sing in harmony with the white tea and it does so particularly well. I'm appreciating the drop in temperature, a nice warm wash off this morning then on with aforementioned balm and Aftershave.

Have a good un you blokes :)

Very encouraging sign ! :)

Most appropriate soap.

Great looking blade.

More to come?

Cheers :). Always a bit nervwracking after a layoff, especially with a freshly honed blade.

Few more straights and Kami's still in the den after thinning the herd yeah, and some DE's i've not posted pics of as yet........ stay tuned (y)

Razor: Merkur 34c
Blade: Polsilver Super Iridium (3)
Brush: Semogue SOC Boar
Soap: Phoenix & Beau Spitfire
Post: Witch Hazel, Aesop Balm

Very smooth shave today. I went a little closer today than I usually do with no ill effect. :) Finished the shave of with the Aesop balm, I'd forgotten how nice it its.
The ring of death is now visible in the bottom of the Spitfire soap as well now. :(

Pre-Shave: Cypriotian Olive/Argan Oil soap, cold water
Razor: ATT S1 Colossus
Blade: Voskhod (1)
Brush: Whipped Dog 24mm Synthetic
Lather: Mike's Lemongrass & Eucalyptus
Post-shave: Alum, Stirling Coniferous, South Australian Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Unfortunately my last planed SOTD didn't happen - too busy having fun - so (another) paradise will have to do :D

8 days of growth and that's why I love a slant on my travels - after the first pass everything was back to normal!

Also: my last shave was a hurried airport hotel one and I packed a slightly damp synthetic brush in a plastic tube and forgot about it :(

8 days later the brush was still damp with a sharp scent - but one hand lather and all was good again - a real hair brush would have been totally gone by now...

Enjoy your shaves (y)
I've been loving your SOTD posts from different idyllic locations. (y) Your photos are like something out of an imaginary shaving calendar!

Brush: Paladin PK47 28mm
Soap: Mike's Natural Cedar, Orange, Black Pepper
Razor: Bengall 5/8"
Post: Lea Splash

I'm particularly proud of this shave as it's the smoothest shave I've had from the Bengalls and I just honed it myself (newbie at honing so little victories). Easily the best shave from this particular razor, I had begun to wonder why people rated the Bengalls at all.
The Lea A/S is excellent with a very nice hit of menthol. It's great value for money too.

Well I am stuck at work, in that regard I have enjoyed watching @alfredus shave with a synth for a month instead of one of his nice, uber, A list brushes (y)

Phirst Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements Shave

Razor: PAA Prismatic
Blade: Shark SS (1)
Soap: PAA Malbolge (first use)
Aftershave: PAA Malbolge (first use)
Brush: Wolfpac Finest Badger

Thoughts
- The Prismatic returns. Wonderful to have that aggressive blade feel back to my shave and the ludicrous aural feedback. I really, really like this razor. I need to get back into the groove as the final result wasn't quite as smooth as my recent Gillette Slim shaves but still a DFS. One silly nick as I was smiling enjoying myself.
- It's fair to say that the Malbolge label sucks. It's probably PAA's worst effort and screams out "Matrix dork 1999". I don't even mind that the AS label rubbed off in the post and I never would have purchased this if not for @Sxot's great deal for the AS bundled with Amber which I wanted to try. Thank goodness I pulled the trigger because I love this scent. Both soap and aftershave are strong, huggable and really appealing to me - citrisy, musky, black peppery, tobacco and sugary? Sounds confused but this really plays nicely together on my skin. Balance is right up there with the Sangre de Drago AS... just less dark and a little sweeter. The performance of the soap as a shave platform was great in all areas but it's not quite up there in terms of slickness as some of my more recent ones. I put this down to not having used a PAA soap before and I need to learn how to lather it best. It took me a while to coax happiness out of Razorock too but their Tuscan Oud (aka Catholic Mass) is a killer for me now. Be what may, get some Malbolge on your face,
- Door bell just rang with another package. Don't you hate it when it's just an NBN modem and not your shipments from America?

I agree the label design is not the best. Not sure if you are aware - Malbogle is a computer programming language written with the sole purpose of being the most difficult to code. I believe there has only ever been on program successfully written in it. Hence the Matrix, and the "confused" scent. The splash label is not alcohol proof and touching it with some spash on your fingers, or a drip running down results in a smudge.

SOTD (23/1/2017)
MENTHOL MONDAY

Pre:
Hot shower/Clinique Face Soap
Razor: iKon OSS head/Weber Wave handle
Blade: Derby Extra (1x)
Brush: Panta Rei Custom Manchurian
Soap/Cream: B&M Arctique
AS: Thayer’s Lemon/B&M Arctique
Balm: Lucky Tiger Disappearing AS Cream
Fragrance: Issey Miyake L’Eau d’Issey EDT

@walklikeaduck does the B&M Arctique aftershave bring tears, for me it does about 5 minutes after applying. Although it didn't the day the temperature was 35 degrees.

Shower
Feather AC DX with Pro Blade (4)
Crabtree and Evelyn "West Indian Limes" soap
Proraso brush
Re-lather and cold rinse

WTG + ATG for BBS result, except for a couple of places I missed a bit in hindsight. A couple of small weepers and a very minor cut due to my carelessness.

I treated C&E soap like every other hard soap these days - using the puck just like a big shave stick and then loaded a bit extra on the boar brush. Worked a treat. Like the C&E cream, this has no tendency to foam up so once you have enough product it's easy to just keep working it and adding water to get a nice thick yoghurt with no bubbles for 3 passes if needed. Nice consistency and slick enough during the shave but with little residual slickness. Won't buy again but happy to be able to try it and use this one up. I like the bitter lime scent because it's very mild but if you buy soaps to smell them it probably won't satisfy you.

I'm noticing a bit of irritation now though - I'm thinking it's one of the citrus chemicals because the last cream that irritated me also had a "citrusy" scent. Will have to use a proven soap for me tomorrow just to prove it's not my technique causing this irritation...

Nice shave there! Glad you're getting an edge you like - they are truly a great shaver. There are better, sure but take a great edge easily.

Ahhhh. It was a clever Douglas reference. Okay, Mr Smythe, but I honestly think you'd move more units of your fine soap with a more attractive design and less nerdgasm [emoji2]

It's too good a scent not to have something as cool as the more recent labels.

Brush: The Joker. (T's Turnings/New Forest)
Soap: Washpool Farms - Lemon Grass, Lime & Lemon Myrtle.
Razor: PN No4 - Eldyenne
Post-shave: Australian Private Reserve - Monsta Myrtle

Very good soap this, although unless there is a soap making method I am unaware of, there are several ingredients missing on the label. I have contacted them about this and they will call to discuss this afternoon. Doesn't even list water - just oils, no Lye, nothing... Anyway, I enjoyed it and it lived up the reviews. Scent is very nice, good strength but not overpowering.

As to the blade, I am just about convinced that I indeed do prefer my home made roo strop over the several hundred dollar Kanoyama. <sigh>.

Monsta Myrtle - now supercharged and seriously overdosed with menthol so it is living up to it's name. My eyes are getting used to it now and I can keep them open for the most part! I fear my newly obtained Arctique is going to be tame in comparison but I can fix that.

80% BBS, 20% DSF+ and loving it.

The "Umm... Maybe I'm Not A Citrus Guy?" Shave
20170125_124550.jpg

Razor: PAA Prismatic
Blade: Shark SS (2)
Soap: K Shave Worx Hump Day (first use)
Brush: K Shave Worx Black Gamechanger (first use)
Aftershave: APR Sandalwood, Lime, Verbena (first use)

Thoughts:
- Prismatic + Shark still wonderful. I'm waiting on a Windrose handle (see the G4 here) for my Gillette LC New before I crack that open again. It's amazing how good this razor is, considering its low price. The first pass in particular is just a joy with the blade feel and audio feedback.
- The K Shave Worx brush is my first synthetic so I don't have a lot to compare it with but I really like it so far. The 24mm loft feels much softer and silkier than my animal hair brushes and it lathered demonstrably quicker than I'd expected. Good news is that, while it is very soft on the face, it still has enough backbone to face lather effectively too. I liked that I didn't have to soak the brush but I've never found soaking a brush an onerous task as it all happens during my shower in a sexy goblet. I cannot wait to try it with soaps I know better and then I'll get a fairer comparison. The handle has a fine grip, good weight and is solid for the price.
- K Shave Worx Hump Day is a transparent, very hard soap that lathers quickly and easily. It has good cushion and glide. While I'm glad the 2oz pucks were free postage and a great travel size, I think I would have liked the room of the 4oz container to reduce lather on the sink and increase lather in the brush :) Also, I suspect, I'm just not a citrus guy because the scent of this is pleasant enough but - for me - not quite the pants-down fun-parade Chris Bailey suggested. I'll try it again but I think this soap may well end up with my daughter because it's a profile she will dig.
- @todras' SLV aftershave sample is a clean, Aussie citrus burst on the face with nice burn. Unfortunately the scent is not as long lasting on my skin as the other APR juices. While it has great face feel etc, this means SLV is my least favourite of the APR scents. Note that if you are a citrus guy you will probably love it - I imagine someone like NickShaves totally digging this just after they save a puppy. I clearly am a fat old bastard and I'm learning that I like my stink big and funky and often ferny/mossy. SAA all the way baby and it's already reserved for my Oz Day shave... and GL is growing on me too.

Okay, don't mind me - brain fart on my behalf. Everything on Washpool Farms shave soap label is ridgy didge! In future I will hold my thought on accusations until I have had chance to check them out!

Mug lairs!

WOW, I haven't heard that expression since the days when a Sandman was a not uncommon sight on the roads! (y)
