Soap : Proraso Sensitive Skin
Blade: a new Feathers
Razor : Parker Variant setting #3
After Shave : My Home Made fresh from yesterday (few $ of Rum, Bisabolol, Vit E, Witch Hazel, Aloe Vera, Pepper Mint, Tee Tree oil)

Great shave today, I have been adventurous and used setting #3, nice audio feedback with this one.The after shave was awesome ( i did not like the Luck Tiger i received this week, too diluted for my liking)

2 questions :

- How do you keep your wet soap after the shave ? do you let it dry or do you put the cover back ?

- I can still feel some irritations on my face, no redness but sensitivity everywhere. Will it get better as my skin get used to this wet shaving business ? or do i do something wrong (i already use a light touch).

I check my tracking # like mad, I cannot wait to receive my new toys (one blade tomorrow, SE black hawk sometime this week).

I drain any excess water then just seal it up, I never let mine dry and have never had any problems.

Back that Parker down a bit to a 1 or a 2 and see if it decreases, in the alternative shave every other day as an experiment to see if the irritation decreases, it is also possible that it is down to technique but I would give the first two suggestions a go first.

Always let your soap dry.
With my normal soaps (Squadron, APR, B&M) I lightly wipe off any remaining lather with my fingers or the briefest of rinses. Then shake the water out. Then leave the bowl upside-down resting against something (at a 45 degree angle) so any remaining water comes out while air-drying. My bathroom is fairly dry so it's done by that evening.
If that doesn't make sense, tell me and I'll take a photo to illustrate.

Have you tried using an Alum block after your shave? It really teaches you where you're being too rough... And it's not always what/where you think.

Thanks

yes I always use Alum but the feedback is not localized, almost all my face get it (which does not happen with the Gillette Fusion)

LOL! I think this nicely illustrates how different every shaver/experience is. @todras (obviously) knows his stuff.
Take each suggestion on board and see what works for you... That's half the fun!

Also, I have lately been lathering in a bowl. This has the nice side effect of not getting the soap cannister itself wet. (I sometimes still facelather too)

I pre-load with a very wet (dripping water) brush on the puck for 1-2 minutes, then bowl lather as I like mountains of very thick lather. Afterwards, I gather up any remaining lather and shut the tub, never had any problems doing this even with the intense heat and humidity in Sydney. If the soap has been cooked properly, doing so will have no ill effects whatsoever. If the soap goes rancid, it's crap soap.

As you say, do whatever works for you in your situation, however there is no reason to dry off your soaps other than preference.

I only started wet shaving a couple of months ago & I found that the sensitivity went away after a while (a week or so for me). My technique also improved with daily use despite using roatating different razors regularly. I think my commitment to not touch the cartridge razors helped me focus on what I needed to improve on. That being said, I don’t think I’m ready to try a single blade yet :)

Anyone up for MOVEMBER ?

Absolutely not and I would petition you sir, in the strongest terms, not to give the idea any currency. I think the two letter CApitalization has engendered more than sufficient talk in relation to months, now is the time to return to solid, stable and respectable grounds.

Can you imagine a Sydney meetup where everyone has a 'stache...it would be out of control. People would think we were all radical progressives, fringe types and so on...reputations might easily suffer, people would talk, disparage and injure good names. I would like to prosecute in the strongest terms, the idea of normalcy and what is appropriate.

Let us hear no more of it :pompous:

PS: Really nice photograph too today, love it!

Good Sir,
Please note I capitalised ALL of MOVEMBER, hoping to slide under your radar for these sorts of things ;)

Pre-Shave: SebaMed, cold water
Razor: Razorock Baby Smooth Al
Blade: Voskhod (1)
Brush: Nathan Clark Envy White
Lather: Mike's Bay Rum
Post-Shave: Alum, Stirling Bay Laurel Witch Hazel, Australian Emu Oil

Had a bit of a busy Sunday morning, so no time for absolute weekend luxury. Not a problem with this gear though - zipped with the Baby Smooth over my face and still got a nice close and smooth shave. The brush produced mountains of slick and glossy Mike's lather in no time - definitely no reasons for complaints.

I hope you all have a very enjoyable Sunday (y)

Kind of busy lately. Went to the office around 5:30 am, but at 3 pm I was in the pool and shaving afterwards

a bit of water before lathering +
mergard (merkuer head + maggard handdle) with gillette 7 O'Clock SP
yaqy synthetic
soap: APR General Ledger
splash: APR General Ledger
balm: APR General Ledger

I really enjoy splashing my face all day with this warm weather, specially latter in the season as I will spent on boats counting marine wildlife. I am looking for cheaper versions that may still be good for the skin. One alternative could be buying Tayers splashes, but I found that in the chemist stores there is a cheap toner made of witch hazel. Has anyone tried the ones from chemist discount?

I mean, this kind of products:

Pre: DR Harris Coconut Bar, Myrsol Emulsion
Brush: Semogue Owners Club Boar
Soap: Haslinger Schafmilch
Razor: Merkur Futur (2)
Blade: German Shick (1)
Post: Myrsol Emulsion
EDP: APR Suitably Attired Australian

I’ve been using this combo for almost 2 weeks whilst O/S. Works a treat. In particular, the Boar brush and the Haslinger seem to be made for each other, and the German-made Schick blades work really well in the Futur.

I use that one mate, T.N. Dickinsons it's called. 100% distilled witch hazel containing 14% alcohol according to the label on the back. The bottle lasts for ages.... worth a try at only $6 something :)

I couldn't tell you if it's any better or worse than Thayer's but there's not many places produce witch hazel so it prolly all comes from the same source....

Priceline Pharmacy sells T.N. Dickinsons for around $6.50 per bottle
