Some wonderful shaves - first a BBS and today a DFS+ as I was in more of a rush. Broke out the Shaver Heaven in anticipation of its impending return but was disappointed to see I had left it too long in the tub since opening and it has discoloured (the label does say 12 months...). Didn't seem to effect the performance much and the scent is still very much reminiscent of the chewing gum by the same name, albeit less potent (actually a welcome development). I prepped with my little boar so as to be more economical with this unobtanium soap but seeing the state of it there is no need for that. Still one of my best soaps...

Greetings happy shavers :) A silly question, what is the easiest way to upload my shaving photos without using social media? I'm still new to the community and don't see an option of uploading directly via PC. thanks in advance and happy shaves!

Do you count Flickr & Imgur as social media? I just put my pics in a private folder & use the BBCode to share. I just learned from these guys as well, so it's not a silly question (y)

Blade: Some vintage blade with about 6-7 on the clock (I forgot what is loaded, okay??)
Brush: Plissitane
Soap/Cream: Shaver Heaven Movember
Post/AS: Wet alum, 30 sec & pat dry, followed by APR Monsta Myrtle Mk.1

I am really digging this combo, the Movember/MM is a decent combination which I wish I had tried before. Did load it a bit wetter and with the bloom on the soap, got a nice proto-lather which exploded on the face and still required further water to be added.

For those that are new to the forums, I encourage you you experiment with your routine to find new techniques and improve your shave. The intersections of a vintage blade and couple of bumps led to some weepers this morning, so applying the Alum and letting it sit for 30 seconds pretty much stems the flow of claret. I find that if I wash it off then the haemostatic properties of the Alum also gets washed off and the blood returns. As a result I pat dry with a towel which keeps it in place, and apply the AS over the top.

If you have oily skin, applying Alum then patting dry instead of rinsing may also help keep your skin oils at bay. I notice it in summer, and often use it as a way to control oiliness on hotter days. That said, your skin might find irritation in not washing off either, so again I encourage you to try it and see if it works.

Yesterday was my birthday and - after my daughter tricked me with a disposable - I gratefully received my SS General. Today is the first shave with it, the Feather Pro Super blades and APR Lightning Ridge... thus breaking all the rules about not changing everything up.

I decided to use the Windrose handle I’ve used with the aluminium as I prefer it to what comes by default. Brilliant shave, as always. I was made for lovin’ this head. I did a fair old slice on my chin after I got cocky just to remind me to be careful. Alum for the win.

Soap is brilliant. Aftershave is BIG menthol and a great face feel.

The Lightning Ridge scent is an interesting beast. This natural, sweetish/tartish enigma is exactly the profile that would have clashed with the tallow funk I got from the original APR soap base. Obviously I’m speaking from my point of view because I know I’m more sensitive to tallow funk than most around here. I don’t know why but I think the issue is solved now. Longer curing time? Whatever it is - well done, team. The splash is a mentholated which is welcome in this weather. Lightning Ridge feels like the country after a summer shower. I can’t describe it better than that and I like it’s “greeness”. Tossing up whether to go for an EdP but 20 mins in - it’s a yes.

Good advice. Personally, I've tried alum, styptic gel and a few other ideas for the claret. Best option for me has always been a big dollop of lather and just leave it there. It has been faster and more permanent that any other option I have tried when needs must. And I find washing my face with a good bath soap (or shower) is the best pre-shave prep for my oily skin. For me, the value of pre-shave prep seems to be in removing facial / stubble oils and dirt that would otherwise interfere with a good lather...

Agree on the cleansing prior - I use one of those polypropylene scrubbers, but the 'man strength' ones and not the ladies versions you usually see. Usually this is under the water in the shower beforehand, followed by a wash with Cetaphil. Bath soap dries out my face too much and exacerbates the oiliness.

That said, you need to try things and see if it works for you. If it does, great. It's all a part of the journey and we can learn from each other in our testing and trials.

I use postimage.org, you don't need an account and upload straight from your PC.

You can resize the photos to suit forums which is awesome.... don't upload full size images to the forum unless you're "special" and like to pi$$ everybody off with slow loading images/pages.
