Sunday shave detailed below, and is bought to you by @borked and @Tony Forsyth:

Razor: E2 Fatboy (5)
Blade: La brune française Wilkinson Sword, fabriqué en Angleterre (7)
Brush: C'mon, do I really need to say it?
Soap:
@D_Smythe Crown King 'Lo Haiku', @borked collection
Post: @D_Smythe Crown King 'Lo Haiku', @borked collection

Broke my normal alternate day shave routine to lock in a shave with the brush. Rinsed it out and followed with a treatment of a shampoo (Redwin Tea-Tree) followed by a handwash with verbeena lime oil in it which does neutralise odours very well. Was not much funk happening after that although certainly detectable.

Late yesterday @borked handed me a newer release of the Pheonix Artisan Accoutrements duo to try, dubbed 'Lo Haiku'. This is a reasonably faithful homage to the crazy 70's advertising scent 'Hai Karate' which itself has recently been re-released by a new company in the wake of the resurgence of older scents like Brut, Old Spice and Aqua Velva. It is a gourmand take on an Oriental accord driven cologne, which dries down faily quickly to a powdery and inoffensive, soft scent.

Loaded up the LE and was surprised at how well it did indeed jump onto the knot. The first pass of lather was far too dry simply due to the density of the knot and for the fact that this soap can take a heap of water. Got it into a suitably glidy state and started shaving. Very impressed over some of the older PAA formulations, great glide and protection is afforded and it certainly smells pretty good at the same time. Standard 2-pass shave, WTG & a semi-XTG pass. Still a great shave with the La Brune even on the 7th outing.

Rinsed off and patted the face dry, and reached for the matching spash, and immediate burning sensation was felt. Held off immediately weashing off as I was not getting the previous prickling sensation, just the heat whioch is very much the opposite to the menthol effect. Took a good 5 minutes to really settle down and stop the strange hot sensation on my face, and show itself as the scent it is. Now half an hour later I am getting some lovely powdery whiffs of the carnation and geranium.

For all I have said previously on Douglas (ie scents are great, soaps don't perform as well as they should) seems to have been reversed by this latest CK formula soap base. Too early to tell how it will go as I need 3 shaves back-to-back to really see if I get any issues with the soap but so far so good.

Great initial outing for the LE @Monsta_AU - it is a fabulous brush! I couldnt really detect an obvious funky smell from the brush this morning - just gave it a rinse under warm water and a soak.

I also tried the "Lo Haiku" yesterday at the meet-up - I swear it smells very similar to the Pinaud Clubman with the green cap. A wonderful "Barbershop scent". I havent smelled Hai Karate.

hahaha... you have no idea how much back and forth went into deciding the engraving style (laughing as initially opinions varied a bit) :) suffice to say, there was consensus amongst a larger group to go with the end result.

It gives us the option to customise it. I spoke with @Monsta_AU and he mentioned coloured epoxy to fill it in. And just wipe after and you are set to go.

Razor: Vintage Personna Micrometric
Blade: Vintage Personna [England] blade (3)
Brush: Vintage Butterscotch Simpson '46' reknotted in 'pure'
Soap/Cream: Mondail Tabacco Verde shaving soap
Aftershave: Chattilon Lux - Delor de Treget Aftershave

Hmm, great opportunity to try my new Chattilon Lux aftershave I picked up in the US. Lovely warm orange (not sure of country of origin) headnote develops into a rich base. Lovely face feel too. It reminds me a lot of our very own APR products in many ways - the quality and complexity. Well worth a try.

Shawn was great to deal with in organising the purchase and shipping to my hotel.

"DO NOT USE COLOURED EPOXY" You will end up with one helluva mess :yuck:
For those if any, that do want to colour fill their engraving the best way to do it is as follows.
1. Have kitchen paper towels at hand along with a small amount of menthylated spirits and a small can of acrylic paint in your chosen colour.
2. Clean and make sure the handle is free from any grease or grime by wiping with a paper towel and menthylated spirits.
3. Lightly spray the acrylic over the engraving and allow to partly dry, then wipe off excess with a paper towel and menthylated spirits.
4. Repeat steps "3" two or three times and again wiping with a paper towel and menthlyated spirits.
5. leave to dry for 24hrs and then use as normal.

Cheers
Tony

Thanks @Tony Forsyth that saved a few people a bit of headache. Me I will use as as for a while then make my mind up regarding engraving.

Whilst I've no issues being mistaken for the honest, hardworking and generous man that is @SydBJW I'm not sure if that would be reciprocal mate ;)
Credit rightfully should be @SydBJW for loaning the set here, I merely was returning it to @SydBJW after giving @D_Smythe s newer formula a run after the last lot, which caused a massive breakout in my skin.
For all intent and purposes, the scent is a killer and the product works well, well enough that I'm contemplating grabbing a set, if he releases MetaNectar again, come one Douglas, I'm waiting to buy something of yours ;)

Thanks @Tony Forsyth - I have used similar process on vintage gillette numbers - usually I spray into a container then use a small paintbrush to direct paint over the numbers then rub off with rag soaked in thinner and repeat a few times. Im thinking a gold or white would look good.

Do not use thinners on the handles as it will have an effect on the acrylic.

Grifetto Rules!

Mastro Livi Grifetto is an outstanding straight razor. The more I use it, the more I like it. It gives a super smooth and close shave for an outstanding BBS! The more I use Grifetto, the more I am convinced this is a great straight razor both for beginners and experienced shavers alike. Not to mention the fact it the "Grifetto" name is a tribute to Perugia - the city where I live in - and its coat of arms (the mighty Gryphon!) and, of course, it is also the city where Mastro Livi lives in. I also wanted to use the beautiful Mastro Livi Club 2016 Shave Brush to celebrate the new "Mastro Livi Club Straight Razor 2017" initiative. I am sure this year too Mastro Livi will surprise us with another beautiful and magnificent straight razor! What a great shave!
