I didn't visit any B&M shops, I've been to the AoS store in Washington years ago and was underwhelmed, but did grab a little purchase while over there - February 2017 Acquisition Thread

Yeah Ive been to AoS in the States and was not impressed - just sell their own branded products and a few razors.

I'd like to go to Pasteurs in New York though - or one of the shaving stores in California that sells heaps of Artisan soaps. Its great to be able to smell the stuff before you buy!

My visit back in 2010 to an AoS store involved a large large trying to sell be a vibrating brush - I declined.

Pasteurs is fantastic - certainly a must do if in NYC. Unbelievably many wet-shavers living in NYC have not done so!

My young blokes first shave on camera hahaha! He wants to be a YouTube reviewer! Lol or a window cleaner as he says lol!

Fantastic video mate, good to see the young lad getting into real shaving nice an early :)

Saturday shave went as follows and is sponsored by the P&C Menth Heads:

Razor: E2 Fatboy (5)
Blade: La brune française Wilkinson Sword, fabriqué en Angleterre (6)
Brush: Plissitane
Cream: Proraso Green, bowl lathered
Post: @shavetheman 'Working Title 2'

Sydney's heat meant menth on menu. Just a slight cooling effect however took me back to the early days of this wet-shaving malarkey. Like most people that picked up a DE later in life, I started out with the tube of Proraso Green.

Certainly not as protective, and as someone who claimed to be a 'creams guy' at the beginning of my journey I think soaps are far better in most cases now. The cream did not feel like it worked into the skin & pores anywhere near as well, and glide suffered for it. Still came out with a great shave.

Valobra Glycerlanolina soap, Myrsol Antesol and Emulsion
Brush: P&C LE Platypus 2017
Soap: B&M Cheshire
Razor: Wilkinson Sword Sticky
Blade: Vintage Wilkinson Sword French Brown (3)
Post: Myrsol Antesol and Emulsion
Splash: APR Lavande Violette.

No prizes for guessing what took centre stage tonight! The Platypus was comfortable in the hand and performed extremely well for a first outing. For a brand new brush, the bristles are very soft indeed, and the brush holds loads of lather and works beautifully. Also my first outing with the B&M Cheshire; I wasn't sure how I would go with the fragrance, as others have described it as similar to Earl Grey tea. I didn't get this, more a lively lavender scent with some spiciness. I really liked it. And as expected, the quality of the B&M lather was excellent.
A very close three pass shave. For a mild razor, the Sticky is deceptively efficient - I am very much warming to this razor.
@Tony Forsyth - I am delighted with the build quality, artistic design, and performance of my Platypus Brush. Well done and thank you!
And also a big thank you to the canny @alfredus for selecting the Bob Quinn Manchurian knots.

A Sunday shave with it's attendant relaxation, thoughtful pace and time taken. A simple task made all that much enjoyable by savoring the moment, giving the lather that extra bit of attention and taking your good sweet time. Not much needs to be said about the SMN, lightly mentholated, delicately fragranced and a lather you wish for every shaving day. The second innings of the Polsilver SI, 1 down, 399 to go but back to the Feathers for me tomorrow. Plenty of residual heat around the house today, not to worry thorough, I enjoyed a cold drenching then on with the Vanilla, Benzoin, Juniper & Rose notes of La Forêt de Liguest. The kind of Sunday shave you will remember fondly.

Have a bloody good day people :pompous:

I am very proud of this shave. The first razor I have honed all the way, taken from butter knife to great shave. *
I was so dubious of the shave that I had my Fatboy loaded and ready to go, but the first pass was spectacular. I don't have any magnification (nor do I have a clue what I'm looking for) so I'm sure there are all sorts of faults in the edge, but the shave itself was great. This was also my first Japanese straight. Loved it.

I didn't find time to post these whilst I was on holiday so here they are. Apologies for multiples in the one post and also for the poor photos taken on my phone. Nonetheless the view from our room was phenomenal!

Palmolive Shave Stick (European Formula)

Really surprised by the quality of the lather from the Palmolive shave stick. Performed extremely well and took a substantial amount of water. Could easily become my only travel soap. The razor performs well but reminds me why it was such a great razor to start with. Smooth and easy to use. It does a good job of providing a close shave but the hair grows back quicker then I have become accustomed to recently. The Razorock brush is a synthetic. It does a good job and is great for travelling with. Nonetheless it is not a badger, lets just leave it at that. A great shave before heading out to Movieworld for the day. Superman Escape ride got a workout and I think we went on about 10 times (@todras, look this one up as I think it would be right up your alley mate ;)).

LEA Shaving Cream
LEA After Shave Lotion

The LEA cream performed admirably well. Ever so slight hint of menthol which was nice. For some reason I thought the lotion would be more like a balm but it was more of an after shave style. Didn't appreciate the sensation upon application either (not related to the shave either as my alum block provided no feedback) so although I would happily use the cream again the lotion is out for me. Good shave before spending the day at Seaworld. It was hot out there but we still managed to have a good time. The Storm roller coaster was closed unfortunately but the highlight of the day was watching a King Penguin chick hatch right in front of us.

Edwin Jagger "Menthol" Shave Cream

I was very happy with the performance of the Edwin Jagger cream. One caveat i must disclose though s that I use a lot of any cream that I shave with. None of this "small almond size drop" nonsense, I get a good amount in there and I feel that this is how I get a good result. I am able to add as much water as I like and therefore get a great lather. Nice relaxing day with some shopping at Pacific Fair as well as just generally taking it easy.

Tabac Shaving Cream
Tabac After Shave

No photo sorry. Tabac really is a top performer and the cream is no exception. Great lather and great shave. The after shave also does a great job. No complaints whatsoever. Spent an awesome day at Dreamworld and Whitewater World (Dreamworld has combined both parks in to one now). None of the rides can really compete with the Superman Escape but some standouts for the day were The Giant Drop, The Tower of Terror II, The Buzzsaw and the Wedgie (more for you to look up @todras ;)). Having been to Wet and Wild on a previous trip though I would have to say that Movieworld and Wet and Wild over 2 days far surpass the Dreamworld/White Water World combo. Nonetheless another great day but unfortunately our last on the Gold Coast :(.

So keen to try out the Platypus brush we collected at the meet up yesterday. It did not disappoint! Not much of a badgery scent to the knot at all. The brush opened up with a bit of soaking to a fan / hybrid fan shape and first lather using the Arctic Hydra was sensational. Handle feels really nice, just the right size and weight for me. The colours are amazing - the gold really jumps out in the sunlight and really looks different to first appearances in the dimly lit pub yesterday. Reminds me a bit of
'Blue Poles' by Jackson Pollack, without the bits of broken glass in it! Used a bowl to lather and the brush was fantastic - whipped up loads of suds and the mix of backbone and soft tips were very impressive. I'm very happy with my choice of knot and the handle design is brilliant. My only tiny issue is the engraving on the base is very hard to read - I think a highlight with some colour would really make it pop. I might just do this at a later date. The perspex presentation box is really classy and adds to the premium feel of the whole package. Well done @Tony Forsyth and thanks to @alfredus and @Monsta_AU for all the effort.

The Gem G-bar was its usual smooth self and left a dolphin-smooth surface for the sample of APR "Acqua de Sydney" that
@todras kindly passed on yesterday. This one is a cracker !! Bright, summery, fresh seaside and citrus - perfect for the hot day ahead. Another winner from APR :joyful::joyful::joyful:

I'm trying exceptionally hard to resist the urge to book a flight today and a season pass for Movie World after watching the POV Youtube video, I can think of no better way of how I would like to spend my free time. Oh wait, I can :D

Sunday shave detailed below, and is bought to you by @borked and @Tony Forsyth:

Razor: E2 Fatboy (5)
Blade: La brune française Wilkinson Sword, fabriqué en Angleterre (7)
Brush: C'mon, do I really need to say it?
Soap:
@D_Smythe Crown King 'Lo Haiku', @borked collection
Post: @D_Smythe Crown King 'Lo Haiku', @borked collection

Broke my normal alternate day shave routine to lock in a shave with the brush. Rinsed it out and followed with a treatment of a shampoo (Redwin Tea-Tree) followed by a handwash with verbeena lime oil in it which does neutralise odours very well. Was not much funk happening after that although certainly detectable.

Late yesterday @borked handed me a newer release of the Pheonix Artisan Accoutrements duo to try, dubbed 'Lo Haiku'. This is a reasonably faithful homage to the crazy 70's advertising scent 'Hai Karate' which itself has recently been re-released by a new company in the wake of the resurgence of older scents like Brut, Old Spice and Aqua Velva. It is a gourmand take on an Oriental accord driven cologne, which dries down faily quickly to a powdery and inoffensive, soft scent.

Loaded up the LE and was surprised at how well it did indeed jump onto the knot. The first pass of lather was far too dry simply due to the density of the knot and for the fact that this soap can take a heap of water. Got it into a suitably glidy state and started shaving. Very impressed over some of the older PAA formulations, great glide and protection is afforded and it certainly smells pretty good at the same time. Standard 2-pass shave, WTG & a semi-XTG pass. Still a great shave with the La Brune even on the 7th outing.

Rinsed off and patted the face dry, and reached for the matching spash, and immediate burning sensation was felt. Held off immediately weashing off as I was not getting the previous prickling sensation, just the heat whioch is very much the opposite to the menthol effect. Took a good 5 minutes to really settle down and stop the strange hot sensation on my face, and show itself as the scent it is. Now half an hour later I am getting some lovely powdery whiffs of the carnation and geranium.

For all I have said previously on Douglas (ie scents are great, soaps don't perform as well as they should) seems to have been reversed by this latest CK formula soap base. Too early to tell how it will go as I need 3 shaves back-to-back to really see if I get any issues with the soap but so far so good.

Pre: Proraso Green Pre/Post
Brush: Platypus
Soap/Cream: MWF
Razor: Rockwell 6S (4,2,2)
Blade: Feather (7)
Post-shave: Alum, Emu Oil, Myrsol Formula "C"

Wow! That's all I can say. There really is a big difference in having a good quality brush.
The Platypus is definitely the softest brush I own, and I'm sure it's only going to get better.
I put 3 palm lathers into it to give it a bit of a clean and make it smell nicer, and today was the first shave.
I will have to really use this brush to get used to it some more. I may have underloaded it this morning.
Still getting good shaves from the feather after 7 shaves.
Looking forward to the next shave with the Platypus already!(y)
Definitely worth every penny!
