Shave of the Day Thread - 2017

For a bloke that makes his own shaving soap you seem to wait a while between drinks mate :D

Perhaps the 500mm of rain in QLD may have had something to do with it

Funny story. Cyclone - Rain - Flooding - No Power for a week. Still shaved every, by torch light. Then on Friday I was cleaning up in the yard before the heat and humidity of the day and the phone rings. It's the Boss - come back to work, right now, the power is on and we're working the weekend to catch up. So I dropped everything and rushed back to work. I got home that night and the good lady was horrified that I had gone in looking like that (yard clothes and unshaven). I was too. Anyway, finally get to shave on Sunday and here were are. Power is back on, life has returned to normal and I don't expect I will have more than a 24hr growth again any time soon.

Razor: Hoshi Tombo 8000
Brush: Simpsons Chubby 2 Best
Soap: Shaver Heaven - Oatmeal Stout
Aftershave Splash: Old, Old Spice

Re-found and ancient container of Old Spice. I seem to do this every 6 months or so. It's a great scent, but I find it drying. Regardless, great shave and look forward to finding it again in another six months.

Razor : Gillette New SC with Stray Whisker handle
Blade : Gillette Super Platinum (2)
Soap : Stirling Black Ice Sample
Brush : K Shave Worx Gamechanger
Post : Alum + APR General Ledger AS

Thoughts...
- thanks to @Cris for this brilliant soap sample. A beautiful menthol infused licorice burst to start the day. Usual top notch performance and a 2 day growth was destroyed with aplomb.
Love it mate!
Cheers
Cris

Blade feel mostly. No matter what blade I've used in it (7 O'Clock Yellow would be the sharpest I've got atm, but used vintage and other sharp blades alike), it just feels like it's dragging/pulling. Didn't have the issue with the 95 Timeless, so thinking it might be my coarse growth is too much for the 68 gap, which causes the biting (and irritation when it happens). Tried decreasing the angle so the blade is more perpendicular to the skin (riding the cap) to see if that assisted, but no luck. Either will send back to Timeless and exchange for a 95, might just buy a new 95 plate, or sell it and get an ATT R (if the test goes well with this razor).

Before you give up try a Voskhod and a Ladas...

Pre-Shave: @khun_diddy Olive Oil Soap, cold water
Razor: BBS-1
Blade: Ladas (1)
Brush: Rudy Vey Shavemac 2-band Silvertip
Lather: Australian Private Reserve Mycroft
Post-shave: Alum, Stirling Bay Laurel Witch Hazel, South Australian Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Beautiful sunny and crisp morning today - and finally I had some time for an enjoyable shave. The residual slickness of the APR soap was stellar and the lather rich and protecting - finally with a picture here. Wonderful four passes and I didn't want it to stop. The Shavemac 2-band Silvertip is somehow a bit underrated at the moment. So many new vendors and knots - but this one is still a champion in my den.

Hope you have a great start into the new week (y)

Wow. Best bowl and stand set up I've seen ;) very nice mate

The stand was from a vintage store who bought them originally from an artisan in Queensland I think. Surely there are more over east? I collect pottery and I have a set of 3 or 4 of these turquoise soup bowls. They're roughly textured and not perfectly round (being home made) so work pretty well for $4 lather bowls.

Razor: Schick Krona
Blade: Voskhod (2)
Brush: Wahl Silvertip Badger
Shave cream: Old Spice Musk
A/S: Thayer's Witch Hazel Aloe, Shaveworx Cool fix
Great shave this morning. Decided to throw my coffee in the mix too. Maronne blend from silipo coffee here on the Gold coast. 20g into 3cup stovetop and topped up mug with hot water. Just splendid. Anyway, back onto the Shave, with was just as good as the coffee along with it. First time using some Old Spice shave cream, great all round besides residual slickness which it's probably a 7/10. Still not terrible.
QOTD for you guys. What's your favourite DE blade and why? I like to ask some questions to see what and why people pick their gear! Hope you guys don't mind answering some in the future.
Happy shaving
Spencer

Brush: Omega Synthetic Hi-Brush
Soap: Proraso Green
Razor: Gillette Slim Adjustable (L - 2)
Blade: Gillette 7 O'Clock Green (2)
Lotion: Alum / Pinaud Clubman / Nivea Post-Shave Balm / Pinaud Clubman Talc

The venerable Gillette Slim produced yet another smooth and close shave. It does seem a blade improves with use, with the second day perhaps providing its peak performance. Were it a necessity, I could get along indefinitely, and contentedly, with only the Gillette Slim. It is a masterpiece.

'Tis a curious thing, this RAD malady of mine.

Another awesome shave. Three days growth so I have been really looking forward to this one. Did an extra long load and was rewarded with an effortless BBS after two passes. Gotta a love a straight with long growth. Two layers of tape has taken care of the home waer on this blade. Really should hunt one down one in better condition.

Great razor.

Lovely refreshing shave. Very slick lather whipped up by the Chubby. Three passes and a clean-up (plenty of residual slickness) for a BBS.
The Musk in the soap matched nicely with the Knize 10.

Razor: Vintage Eclipse Red Ring
Blade: Vintage Australian Gillette Super Stainless [aka "Aussie Spoiler"] (3)
Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpson
Soap/Cream: Squadron Soap Spitfire
Aftershave Splash: Pitralon 'Swiss'

From one 'plane' to another! Figured that after using the P&B yesterday I should hop into the Squadron Soap one today. Very different scent profile, Very similar performance profile, a lovely soap @SchoolForAnts !

Thinking about your QOTD @Spencer Frankel - What's your favourite DE blade and why? - that is a hard one.

There are lots of vintage blades I like but probably the Schick Platinum is probably my favourite. Modern blades, well the reputation of the Feather blades precedes them, and I use the Personna 'Lab Blue' as my reference blade but I think I have a soft spot for the Astra SP - my first blade really.

All are great blades but have never tried vintage razors. Not sure if im really posting in right area for questions. Just wanted to add it on to SOTD for an interactive side. So many people rave about those Astras. Need to get my hands on some

Shavemac 2 band holds it's head high in my rotation for sure - both of them (see my SOTD for the new addition). I don't get the "no shavemacs" feeling about the premium knot groups. I wonder if it's a USA vs Germany thing? I really can't see why they would drool over an over priced Simpsons Manchurian and then scoff at a Shavemac.

Broke out the LE soap and splash to break in the new brush. Oh boy, Bernd has produced another stunner! Luxurious soft tips but good back bone and presence on the very first lather. Simply beautiful. Looks at bit weird in the photo! I should have smoothed the profile out a bit after I towel dried it. @todras , you have to bring this scent back again sometime. It's a clear winner in this household, but sadly due to it's LE status, used sparingly. The blade was the looser in this shave. Rough shave and a poor SAS result. I thought this edge was fine last time I used it but maybe not. No drama, I'll give it a touch up on the Jnat tonight.
