Should've taken a break after the blood bath yesterday with the feather. Alas, I changed the blade up to astra, as they have some pretty positive feedback from other forums in the timeless. It honestly went as well as I could have expected. Opened up a couple of nicks from yesterday, but was mostly ok.

Pre: Cold Water Splash
Soap: Tabac
Brush: Shavemac Custom 28mm Silver Tip D01
Blade: PN No4 "Eldynne"
Post: Barristers Reserve, Tabac Lotion.

Face still getting over yesterdays dud edge. Moved on to the next blade in rotation. I KNOW this one was singing last time I used it but it's lacking too!?! What the heck is going on here??? My only guess is that since it's months between uses the edge is corroding despite being oiled. I will have to check under the scope to see if I can confirm this. I've been using INOX. Possibly that's not good enough??? I have been thinking I have too many blades and should maybe sell some on. If I am correct in that the edges don't last unused I think I will. Otherwise a top shave. DFS with a little irritation sadly. This brush is outstanding and on par with the best I have. Do yourself a favour and order one!

We recently put Dad into a dementia specific care facility - a very difficult process. Going through his things we found the brush on the right (on the left is my Proraso brush for comparison), which he kept from his Dad in Italy (who I only met once that I can remember on a trip back to the old country in my youth). Being an electric shaver all his life, it has sat unused for decades. I'm guessing it is a very well used boar brush of Nonno's from around the 60s - you can see the hole in the middle of the brush where it has been worn down. A lot of the tips are split half way down the bristle. It's interesting that the colour is yellow rather than bleached and the aluminium handle is pretty dinged up - I suspect this brush was used a lot and pressed on heavily in the process - likely breaking the middle bristles. It probably didn't get a proper soak prior to use. The bristles appear finer than the Omega bristles of today but still with good backbone - it's actually an excellent brush to use after soaking with a similar loft now to the Proraso brush.

Shed a few bristles though - if it keeps shedding (the glue in the knot appears to have cracked) it will have to stay as a museum piece. Otherwise I will keep using it. Pretty amazing that I was able to get such a good DFS+ shave with it today actually after all this time! A nice connection to a previous generation...

Sorry to hear about your Dad, a tough time for all involved.

The brush is pretty amazing though and a great link with the past. I'm not surprised that it gives a good result - these old brushes often do.

You don't see many boar knots around but certainly if it does start to shed enormously you could 'upgrade' pretty easily to a badger knot in the old handle.

A Red Shave
20170405_071535.jpg

Razor: Gillette New SC with Stray Whisker handle
Blade: Astra Green (1)
Soap: Whispers from the Woods - Jasmine, Cedarwood & Ylang Ylang Sample Tin
Brush: K Shave Worx Gamechanger
Post: Proraso Red AS & Aramis Havana EdT

Thoughts...
- Whispers is a great Australian artisan and I've been impressed with the lather of the soaps I've tried. Easy, thick, hard to get wrong. Cushion, glide and slickness all sweet. The scent on this is a good 5 and pleasant... if a little "traditional". I will stick what's left of the tin in the traveling box when it arrives if people are interested - I've only scooped soap out as it was too small for a brush. The post is pretty traditional for me too - nice face feel.
- I haven't used Astra in a long time. Not my fav blades but very good.

Glad to hear! Hope this setup holds water for your razor in the future!

Razor: Merkur 34c
Blade: Perma-Sharp (best blade I've used as of yet)
Soap: Mitchell's Woolfat
Brush: TF Custom Synthetic 26mm Tux
Post shave: Thayer's Witch Hazel, Cool Fix

Had a not so good day at work today. This happens very rarely. I love my job. A lot of grumpy people around today to try bring people down. Such a shame, so I definitely needed a beautiful shave. And this is my best one yet! First use of the AMAZING TF Custom brush thanks to Tony. 10/10 performance without question. The softness is unmatched against my other brushes. And I have found my new fav blade (Lucky cause I bought 100 pack) in the Perma-Sharp. I'm a happy boy after my shave! Closest as well as most comfortable!
Have some superb shaves everyone

You don't see many boar knots around but certainly if it does start to shed enormously you could 'upgrade' pretty easily to a badger knot in the old handle.

Probably not worth re-knotting - the handle is a very light aluminium and heavily oxidised with a lot of dents etc. I get the feeling that if I squeezed it hard with a finger another dent would be created.

But I've got to admit that I don't really like badgers anyway. My only experience of them is with my Platypus and while I can see it's an exceptionally well made brush - both handle and knot - I just prefer the way a boar feels and behaves. I can see that badgers leave more soap in the knot and not as much on the face while with boars it's the reverse - not a lot in the knot but a lot on the face, which is how I like it. Boars manage to retain their backbone with more loft as well, which is nice for me. Badgers are more dense and hold more water but seeing how much soap is left in the knot at the end of the shave annoys me when I have been trying to get it on my face...

So I'm hoping this one doesn't shed anymore. But either way I can see an Omega 48 in my future - as well as some synths... I can see how with boars that size does matter!

Pre-Shave: @khun_diddy Olive Oil Soap, cold water
Razor: BBS-1
Blade: Ladas (2)
Brush: Paladin Chief Strawberry Amber
Lather: Mike's Hungarian Lavender
Post-shave: Alum, Stirling Bay Laurel Witch Hazel, South Australian Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Summer made a recurrence today - wonderful warm morning, but still very pleasant. This Paladin was my first high end badger and I still enjoy it a lot - thank you Ken and Lee for showing me the light. The same goes for Mike's soaps - I was fortunate enough to discover them very early on in my wet shaving journey and I still believe they are one of the best out there. It all resulted in a wonderful lather (picture here) and a perfect smooth shave.

I hope you enjoy your shaves (y)

Brush: Omega Synthetic Hi-Brush
Soap: Proraso Green
Razor: FaTip Gold "Festina Gentile" (Gentle Head) Razor
Blade: Gillette 7 O'Clock Green (4)
Lotion: Alum / Pinaud Clubman / Nivea Post-Shave Balm / Pinaud Clubman

The 7 O'Clock Green blade performed surprisingly well in its fourth day in the Fatip Gold razor, with no noticeable decline. Blade alignment remains an issue and evidently results from loose tolerances in the cap and plate. When set on the posts of the cap of this three-piece razor, excessive wiggle of the blade is easily demonstrated. The same is true of the cap when it is set on the plate.
