Okay, time to admit that after all these years I haven't been doing it right.

After reading yesterday's SOTD thread on how other members create their lathers I decided to up my game. I think that it was @alfredus who said that he will build his for up to 5 minutes and @todras that you must use the tips to stop air getting in. In the past I have been too impatient and have definitely settled on a lather that was big in volume, but had many air bubbles. So this morning I took my time. I did about a 40 second load on the soap, and then really slowly and gently built the lather in a smooth bowl. After about a minute I added about 1/2 tsp of water and then continued to build. After about 3 minutes it was seriously thick and shiny so I added a bit more water and then kept going. The result; a rich creamy lather that was without a doubt the best I have ever made, it was very satisfying.
Now my skills with a camera are not up to @Jamie standards, and it doesn't seem to shine like others, but it was very shiny and here's the lather shot
Happy hump day.
Excellent! Completely different to my own method but works just as well I'd imagine. The slickness of the lather, I've found, makes such a huge difference to the quality of the shave (especially the latter passes) that it's worth taking the extra time to get it right.
