Okay, time to admit that after all these years I haven't been doing it right.

After reading yesterday's SOTD thread on how other members create their lathers I decided to up my game. I think that it was @alfredus who said that he will build his for up to 5 minutes and @todras that you must use the tips to stop air getting in. In the past I have been too impatient and have definitely settled on a lather that was big in volume, but had many air bubbles. So this morning I took my time. I did about a 40 second load on the soap, and then really slowly and gently built the lather in a smooth bowl. After about a minute I added about 1/2 tsp of water and then continued to build. After about 3 minutes it was seriously thick and shiny so I added a bit more water and then kept going. The result; a rich creamy lather that was without a doubt the best I have ever made, it was very satisfying.

Now my skills with a camera are not up to @Jamie standards, and it doesn't seem to shine like others, but it was very shiny and here's the lather shot

Happy hump day.

Excellent! Completely different to my own method but works just as well I'd imagine. The slickness of the lather, I've found, makes such a huge difference to the quality of the shave (especially the latter passes) that it's worth taking the extra time to get it right.

Haven't pulled out this razor in a while. Nice.

Brush: PAA Atomic Rocket
Razor: RR Mamba (head) & Blackland Dart (face)
Blade: Personna L/Blue (2) & Astra Green (1)
Scuttle/Bowl/Mug: Fine lathering bowl
Pre: Shower
Soap: APR Winterfall
Post: Witch Hazel & Tea Tree Oil + Australian Lemon & Tee Tree Cream

An improved head shave with the RR Mamba - only one nick on the crown but overall a DFS (y) First shave with the Dart and despite the obvious blade feel the razor shaved smooth and efficiently with little fuss. The handle may look hideous but it feels nice in the hand and the weight is spot on. As always the soap offered optimal performance which is a real necessityy when shaving ones noggin. Not perfect but a vast improvement... Have a great afternoon gents!

I used the heavy load, small dashes of water method for lather today and the MWF responded admirably.Full, rich and slick shiny result and with only an overnight growth the Bengall worked perfectly removing the stubble. My skin always feels excellent after the Mitchells and with the Nivea moisturizer it is soft and supple.Which is something I never would have thought I would be saying about my face.

That soap sounds good, Nav. Is this the one?

If so, not quite the same as Boellis Panama, as the Artigiana soap is 100% vegetal based, whilst the Boellis soap contains tallow. However, as we share similar tastes in soap, I'm sure the La Saponeria Artigiana is excellent soap. Where did you find it?

I had the tallow boellis but I read it was reformulated to veggie, I haven't confirmed that though as I never saw boellis as value for money...unless one is selling that feeling of a "luxury brand". It was never replaced in my den.

I got the artigiana from tvbshaving.com
It's very inexpensive, smells just like boellis (bitter almond), and lathers up the same way where it's a bit frothy at first and then thickens up.

Tvb also has a 10% discount code, in case you buy from them. From memory it's "B&B10".

Cheers Nav.
I hear you regarding the price for the Panama 1924 soap, but it is a 250g brick, and just so luxurious. An indulgent pleasure ;).
I haven't read anything regarding reformulation - the residual slickness I'm getting screams tallow to me. Two vendors I am aware of that currently sell it (Bullgoose, Italian Barber) both list the tallow formula on their websites. Would be interested if you know more re reformulation.

They may have re-reformulated back to tallow?

I remember reading a few years ago that people were getting veg boellis (and were not happy about it).

I had the tallow version and don't notice much difference to the artigiana.

But overall, I don't regard either as a top tier for myself.

Same thing with mdc. I found it so drying and actually "boring" to be honest.

OMG!! :wideyed: I'm really enjoying the Ariana & Evans soap called the Socal Hipster, a very beautiful soft fruity scent of pineapple, banana, passion fruit and mango, this soap is making me so hungry :woot::oops: for me to eat it so bad :cautious:
I can also smell a soft background scent of sandalwood, cedarwood and musk, however, the fruity scent stands out a lot more than the background scent. Overall I really bloody enjoy this soap, keep it up @Peter Charkalis and keep the Stray Whisker supplier update on your shaving soaps.

The wife has gone to work in London for a few days and the boy is with the outlaws.
A nice opportunity to burn some frankincense and myrrh and do a spot of meditation.

Once cleansed and enlightened it was time to get the vintage XPEC out I’ve been gifted and about $170 worth of Xerjoff Warda Al Oud Attar. Give them a mix and there it is, Warda Al Oud Shaving Cream.

Very good lather today helped by watching the vid posted with the guys from West Coast Shaving and Will. Got a nice paste and added and added and added and added water little by little for a great result.

Last night I also had some practice lathers with these results:

It was so slick that while lathering up it was over the sides of the bowl but as you can see, it slid down nicely (y)

It finally happened for me today I nailed a good shave with the slim.its still not close as I'd usually like but it was equally good as a shave with the fatboy with no irritation or razor burn so I'm happy. Funny thing is i dont know what i did different from every other shave with it but will know tomorrow whether it was a fluke or not.

Soap: Pb Puck No:2 (I think)
Brush: SOC Boar
Razor: AS-D2
Blade: Feather (3)
Post: Jojoba Oil
Pretty sure this is Puck No:2 (will the real Slim Shady......). I had used the HG pottery containers to store this so it's oxidised a bit and lost it's scent, but it lathered up beautifully.
First run of the AS-D2, and from reading reviews I was concerned the AS-D2 would be too mild for me. This was possibly the best shave I've had off a Feather blade, nearly BBS (is that a DFS+?). In discussions about the Rockwell Model T it was noted that the razor housing extends out past the blade. I assumed this would be an impediment shaving under the nose and so wrote off the Model T for me. I didn't realise this was also a feature of the AS-D2. However, it did not appear to be a problem with this morning's shave. So off this one shave I'd say the AS-D2 is a keeper (unless my son takes me up on the offer of owning it).
Enjoyable shave @alfredus . Thank you.

Lovely shave this morning. I really enjoy using this slant. For me it has a great balance between efficiency and smoothness. Quick two passes and near BBS. I find this razor better than my other ATT head combo. With the Windsor, there are noticeably more whiskers on my face after the first pass, whereas with this combo, I'm nearly clean after one pass. Great success again this morning with building a lather. Slow and steady wins the race: lather shot
