Shave of the Day Thread - 2018

I thought it may have been the blade then I changed it and the wilky still didn't perform as well as it has in the past so I think my lather may have been off or the pre soap I'm not sure. I felt plenty of residual slickness between passes but it didn't seem slick whilst shaving.
My experience is that sometimes a run of bad shaves is inevitable for one or more reasons. Keep troopering though! (y)

Pre: hot shower
Brush: Yaqi Mysterious Space Tuxedo
Soap: B&M Reserve Cool (sample)
Razor: Rockwell 6s (4)
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (5)
Aftershave: AP Reserve Ozymandias

Excellent shave with a slick lather which I thought would be the final time using the sample but appears there’s another remaining just as I get the hang of it.

The blade was great today which might have been helped by upping the Rockwell to plate 3?

Either way I’m really happy with this shave result but might take the weekend off from shaving to give the mug a bit of a rest!

Permission to all to leave work early today just because...

Pre: Pb Pre Shave Emulsion
Soap: Soapy Science Lollipop Citrus (sample compliments of Fluffy Groodle)
Brush: Semogue 1305
Razor: Kickuth
Post: Jojoba Oil
AS: APR General Ledger
Soapy Science is very nice soap and performed very well with the Kickuth. The scent is on the weak side so was competing with residual Fenchurch scent on the brush. Scent off the soap is a pleasant enough sweet citrus scent reminiscent of laundry cleaner. I think the soap inspires confidence and I would be happy to own a tub but the scent doesn’t inspire me to rush out and buy one. Scent is all essential oils so that gets a tick from me.

no shave this morning as we are doing Jeans for Genes day, so it's dress down Friday, plus I've got a couple of ingrown hairs, so good to let them grow out over the weekend. However, shave related, I did get a mail call this morning: P&B Albion soap + APR Velours Noir soap and splash. Look out for Monday's SOTD.

Look forward to your review of those.:)

Was it the first time using that menthol pre shave?

I'll share my experience which may or may not help you, but see how you go...

I'm very sensitive to menthol. If it's stronger than just a hint, my skin reacts in a strange way and kind of like what you describe...where the lather feels slick and just fine but my skin feels "dry" and the razor feels like it's dragging as if I'm DRY shaving!!

I experience this with heavy menthol and also scents that don't suit me.

You should try the entire set-up again, just exclude the menthol pre shave.

Fatty Friday
Rockwell R4 w/Polsilver
EJ STFv1 25mm
MWF
Anherb balm

No matter which soap I've used over the last ten years, Mitchell's is just totally unique!

The shave is the closest I get, super comfortable and the most awesome post shave!!

All this with a blade on its final shave!!

Thank you, I was thinking the same as the pre soap, blade and brush was the only difference from my previous SOTD

@nav1 you should used MWF on Monday, Wednesday and Fatty Friday ;)

In discussions about the Rockwell Model T it was noted that the razor housing extends out past the blade. I assumed this would be an impediment shaving under the nose and so wrote off the Model T for me. I didn't realise this was also a feature of the AS-D2.
Makes me wonder why the sides extend past the razor edge... Anyone have info on this? Is there a practical reason?

Report back on how you go, I'd be very interested to hear if it's the menthol causing the issue.

If I didn't have so many soaps in rotation, I would have definitely considered it!

If MWF had multiple scents, I'd get rid of practically everything else!

Don’t worry @nav1 you can always sell all your soaps and start stocking up more MWF in your den, easy peasy no problem and issues.
