Razor: Rockwell 6c (3)
Blade: Rapira Platinum Lux (1)
Brush: TSW 452 24"
Soap/Cream: Wholly Kaw: King of Oud (sample) (donkey)
Post: Alum, fancy magic, and Wholly Kaw: Fougère Parfait balm
Fragrance: Maison Franics Kurkdjian: OUD satin mood Extrait de parfum

Decided to mix things up today. What could go wrong? (historically, quite a bit)

Having some family over today for afternoon tea. So, I was hoping for a nice but not overly showy shave.
... As I type that I realise how silly that sounds. My brother-in-law is a garbo. Wonderful guy. But I'm not going to impress him with such things. But, I digress.

Soap:
@Kaeckerut lent me some Wholly Kaw samples to try.
"King of Oud" sounds great on paper and I am already acquainted with the excellent WK performance. So, I was keen to give that soap a whirl.
My last WK attempt was with (I think) "Man from Mayfair". The performance then was great. But the scent put me off.

The performance was, again, excellent. But, I had very similar problems with scent.
I was expecting a long, soft, and deep oud scent. But, my nose couldn't get past the burning-plastic smell that seems to dominate. It instantly gives me a headache and I think is the same scent that turned me off the last WK soap.
So, that was disappointing.

Post:
On @Kaeckerut 's advise I tried a (WK) balm instead of an alcohol-laced splash. Thankfully the balm doesn't exhibit the same plastic-smell. It performs very nicely and absorbs immediately leaving no hint of sheen. I think I would benefit from using a balm more regularly in my routine instead of just at night.

Blades:
It was also suggested that I try a Rapira blade. Turns out I already had a pack that I hadn't opened yet.
On first use it was fully evident that they are nowhere near as sharp as my GSBs, Polsilvers, or Nacets. Nor as smooth.
I have to emphasise that my facial-hair is very coarse and the vast majority of blades won't 'glide' through it resulting in tugging and irritation.
That said, I would rate these blades as 'ok'. I won't buy any more. But I'm not binning them either.

Fragrance:
Followed everything up with some "Oud Satin Mood"... I love this scent so much. *swoon*
Funny thing is I originally obtained it from @Kaeckerut as well. So, I guess this shave is dedicated to you, Brother. :)

Overall result:
Not as good a shave as I was hoping for. But, the final result was socially-acceptable.
I think perhaps WK and I just weren't meant to be, which is a shame. Whatever is causing that weird smell literally hurts my brain.

Pre-shave:- Cold Water straight from the tap
Brush:- RazoRock Plissoft Synth. 24/57mm knot
Soap/Cream:- Arko (3 shave sticks grated into a 150ml plastic tub)

I will be using the RazoRock Plissoft Synth brush, Merkur 34C and the Arko shaving soap for a while until the end of the 5th May Auction day, WOW..... haven't used Arko tallow soap for a while because I can smell a very strong soapy sour scent of lemon went straight through my sinus :shifty::cautious::X3::bucktooth::jawdrop:

Razor: Jowika 6/8"

The Green Mac is a new level of slickness (for my soaps). This was well worth the play in the kitchen yesterday. Lathers easily but more creamy than yoghurty but still plenty of body (especially if you don't keep the water up to it). You can feel the difference with the lather even on your fingers. This is a result of @bald as and I egging each other on. Had the Jowika performing very nicely this morning. The scent is kind of interesting. I thought I could detect notes of Neroli even though that's not in the mix. Unable to tell how much the Plectranthus Amboinicus (Mother of Herbs) influenced the scent but there's definitely some green coming through as well as some floral and the underlying presence of the black pepper. Maybe the distillation wasn't a waste of time.

@SpeedyPC got me all excited about Wholly Kaw and their donkey milk soaps. @borked even had me looking at donkeys.:) I've been disappointed in other popular soaps and I think it's because I don't get on with fragrance oils. I emailed WK and they only have one soap that is exclusively scented with essential oils, Lav Sublime, so one day if I get the opportunity I'll try it. Shipping makes the purchase of one tub uneconomical so maybe I'll hitch a ride with someone else purchasing WK.;)

A well known local vendor should be stocking them in the not too distant future :)

I can be really sensitive to tallow smells too. Thanks for the heads up as I'll definitely avoid these tempting soaps. It's what's stopped me from using P&B.

Both parties are currently navigating the recent changes to Class Y/9 shipping so a measure of reservation is probably necessary.

What this means for you guys in practical terms is that the whole paradigm of being able to buy Aftershave splash from American & European artisans locally has drastically changed rendering the situation in relation to commercial quantities of splash untenable unless a solution is found. It is very serious, no one will pay $60+ for a 100ml bottle of splash that retails for $20USD stateside. The changes are asymmetrical, they effect shipping out of not into the US. I like to buy locally myself, a 2 day delivery time is perfect for me so I am fingers crossed myself :)

The first signs of trouble occurred in November of 2017 with one of the existing freight routes raising the bar considerably (accreditation to ship Class Y/9 with them now costs $950 USD) and further they also raised their off the cuff costs ($45 USD for 1.5 kilos went to $90 USD for 1.5kilos + normal shipping charges) to ship legally in full compliance with the law - a bottle of splash weighs around 220-260 grams. The cost increase was doubled overnight, these prices are not viable from a commercial perspective.

The same situation occurred with EU at around the same time too, most of you will be aware that Gifts and Care stopped shipping alcohol based products. It's all down to the same freight route and handler and tightening of the rules.

Fingers crossed, Sri (WK) is a friend of mine and I would like nothing more than to see another genuine artisan enter the Australian market and the continuance of US/EU splashes to be available locally.

A very enjoyable near BBS today using a few items that I obtained at the last CBR Meet Up. Really love the scent of cherry cola and soap's performance - thanks @Kaeckerut (y) So much so that I'll probably order a tub once the sample is up. Very pleasantly surprised with how the blade performes as I had my concerns using a lighter razor but the blade felt very comfortable / super smooth from start to finish - thanks @lerenau (y) Another great shave with thie Baby Smooth... Have a great Tuesday and happy shaves!

Semogue 1800, Proraso, Vintage Gillette, Nacet w/shim, Witch Hazel, Nivea, VCS, Musk Oil
Things to do and places to be so no straight shave.Tech worked very well with the shimmed blade,I haven't used this razor for a while but it is too mild for me hence the shim. Two passes WTG and XTG with a little buffing and an excellent smooth result.
