Pre: WarmShower
Razor: Rocca R96
Blade: Wizamet
Brush: RR BC Silvertip
Soap: Seville
Post: Son of Zeus Splash

Only shaved around 12 hrs ago and this is why I love this razor so much, with anything else I had used (that cut close) the most I could do was 24hrs.. 2 x ATG = BBS goodness :)

The wizamet is also >> BIC as it is that smooth, if I couldn’t hear the feedback I would of thought there was no blade in the razor. The perfect combo Rocaa + Wizamet

Soap: C&B Bay Lime
Brush: 26mm TF HMW
Razor: Blackland Dart
Blade: Personna (1)
AS: Pb Bay Lime
Not a great introduction to the dart. There were weepers and a nick. Lots of blade feel. But hopefully a better shave than the Euromax in the GC .84P yesterday which was 5 o'clock shadowing by lunchtime.
Hopefully some blade changes and technique adjustment (i.e. getting used to it, the technique adjustment required is not immediately obvious) will produce a more enjoyable shave.
I like the look/design of the Dart and it feels good in the hand so I really don't want to move it on.

RAZOR: Comoy of London 6/8
CREAM: Crabtree & Evyln Sienna
BRUSH: Jack the Barber Synthetic knot
STROP: Black beauty double sided hanging leather

Who said you can't have a straight shave for a tiny price?
The brush was $6 and the razor $30, the soap was a present, and you could buy a cheap eBay strop. All up for under $50 you could be shaving for the next 20 years (replacing the soap obviously!)

If it makes you feel any better I had similar experience my first few shaves as it shaves similar to the R41 & Timeless OC Bronze but is slightly smoother due to the SB plate.
Give it some time as once you dial it in you'll be rewarded with efficient shaves! (y)
Shane from Blacklands suggests using a steeper angle (ride the safety bar) to modulate the aggressiveness and blade feel.
I also found the Dart Pass Around Thread a good source of valuable information regarding blades, technique:

Thanks! That looks helpful, and I'm sure your right, I just need to dial it in. It certainly doesn't come across as a dud, it looks and feels the goods.
If I had made a decision as to whether I would ditch the Asylum Rx in the first 6 - 8 shaves it would've been out the door and now I'm glad I persevered.

I wasn't too keen to let it go as its a solid razor but I couldn't justify keeping so many similar razors in my collection so it had to go. A shame as Blackland make awesome razors and I'd happily add to my collection in the future!

Checking out similar reviews the majority consensus is that if you keep the angle stable it'll shave smoothly with decent efficiency on par with a R41. Keep at it and hope to see some positive thoughts in future SOTD posts. (y)

Yes, and the whisper is a titanium Bleckbird before the end of the week.

I was tempted by the Blackbird and when it was released in Brass I nearly bit the bullet but reviews of distinct blade feel deterred me.
The Titanium sounds nice but way out of my budget! :bag:

Prep: Valobra Glycerlanolina soap, Myrsol Emulsion
Brush: Rooney Polo 2 Super
Soap: PannaCrema Nuàvia Red
Razor: Wolfman WR1
Blade: Vintage NOS Gillette Platinum Royal (1)
Post: Thayers Cucumber Witch Hazel; Pitralon Classic
Scent: Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet

The Gillette Platinum Royal blade, for me, ranks along the Wilkinson Sword Light Brigade as perhaps the greatest blade of the Golden Era. So sharp and smooth - you just glide the blade across your skin and it effortlessly and cleanly removes your bristles. Oh, and it lasts and lasts.

  • Water
  • Yaqi 'Den' Kamisori Shavette
  • Dorco Prime Platinum STP301 (half)
  • Yaqi Sagrada Familia 24mm Tuxedo
  • Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements - Lo Haiku
  • Nivea Men Sensitive Post Shave Balm
I stumbled upon one of those old Hai Karate ads on Youtube, which led me to this soap. I believe PAA is the only company that's making a dupe of this at the moment (the question is why, but I guess I'm glad they did). Since I'm not old enough to actually remember what Hai Karate smells like (and I missed the re-release before they sold all the excess stock for like a quid in the UK), I have no idea how good a 'dupe' this soap is to the original scent. Sort of smells like Old Spice if the powder is turned up to 11 and then poured out of an old leather shoe. It's not bad actually, but I wouldn't consider it Asian or masculine in a classic cologne way.

To add to the manliness and Japanese theme, I broke out my Kamisori Shavette, so that I could have an extra manly shave. Ended up adding some extra manly scars to my chin. Had to break out my styptic pencil as well (for the first time in months).

Pre-shave:- Hot Shower
Brush:- TF Customs Majestic 28mm Rhodium Silvertip
Soap/Cream:- Barrister & Mann - Hallows
Razor:- Muhle - Rocca R94
Blade:- Gillette - Stainless (7)
Post Shave:- Floid - Black / Barrister & Mann - Hallows AS balm

2 pass WTG + touchups = DFS+. Another enjoyable shave. I can now see why these rhodium knots receive high praise. Blade is still going smooth and efficient.

This is not my first try of Hallows, but it's been a few years. I enjoy the this dark complex scent. Scent profile is vetiver, oakmoss, black pepper, cocoa, labdanum, and cedar. It's amazing how they all work together and not be offensive. I like this one a little more than leviathan. Chocolaty , sweet oakmoss and cedar take effect, then it becomes peppery and the vetiver kicks in, then rounded back to the cocoa chocolate scent.

Pre-shave: Hot Shower
Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpson shaving brush
Soap/Cream: APR / Noble Otter TEXAUS shaving soap
Razor: Muhle Rocca Birch Bark Handle
Blade: Polsiver 'Brown' (3)
Post-shave: APR / Noble Otter TEXAUS splash
Fragrance: N/A

With SOOOO much coverage of the US election this seemed appropriate [but not as an invitation for any commentary on the US election :)]

Brush: PAA Atomic rocket
Head: Headblade Moto
Razor: Rocca V4 R96
Blade: Gillette Nacet (3)
Soap: Squadron Soaps The Warden
Bowl: Rover from Artisan Arcade
Pre: Shower
Post: Squadron Soaps The Warden A/S splash // TSW After Balm
WTG, XTG, ATG = DFS

Undoubtedly the most disappointing shave to date with the Rocca as the Nacet felt rough and shaved my troublespots same as lesser efficient razors. Close but I'll be noticing the regrowth come lunchtime... Binned the blade and looking forward to trying a different blade tomorrow! At least The Warden made up for it. :giggle:

Wishing you Good Health & Happy Shaves!

Pre: WarmShower
Razor: Wolfman WR2 1.25
Blade: BIC Chrome Platinum (2)
Brush: Yaqi 26mm Tuxedo
Soap: MdC Argumes
Post: XXX Splash

Happy Wolfman Wednesday people!!! Finally got this soap dialled in.. my issue? Finally figured out I was loading the brush up way to much. The BIC performed amazingly today, smoothed out quite a bit from the last shave and certainly got a very close comfy shave. Might be investing in some of these soon.
