How do you rate the Burley aftershave. I was close to buying a bottle recently, but restrained myself. Big Old Spice original fan.
Few days to mow down. The heavier R41 Twist makes light work of it 2 pass DFS.

ARKO! for the win
Get the Nat. You can’t have too many stones. I’m going to feel lonely with my 2 new Jnats.Fantastic shave today. I have been meaning to use my Coticule as the finisher hone in conjunction with my other stones and today was the day. The razor was a 6/8" Chinese blade that at the time cost about $15.00 and came shave ready . The steel in the blade is surprisingly good and takes a very good even bevel. The brand is ZY. I have two of the same brand and they are pretty much identical. I got them about 3 years ago so they may not be available anymore or the quality may be very different. I have an on going love hate relationship with my Coticule hone as it has no tolerance for any lapse in concentration while honing. One thing with this stone is I have learned to use no slurry and the absolute minimum amount of pressure as I'm honing. The final finish is done on oil. I nearly pulled the pin on a new Jnat hone this afternoon but tonight's shave says otherwise. I did see another nice blade though.
Brush, soap and a DFS+ from a single pass and minor touch ups.
The Sunday $pecial..
Razor-Baili BT 131 $2.80
Brush-Yaqi defect handle 24mm $8
Soap-Arko $4.99
Aftershave-Nivea balm (half price Woolies) $4.99
Blade-Persona red
The cheapest setup I could piece together. First up Arko... exploding into lather immediately as the brush hits skin Lather not suffering from the invisible air bubble in resin hand making it a 2nds brush. With water additions Arko scent fills the bathroom and a yoghurty lather forms with good residual slickness. This razor could be described as a Gillette tech with blade feel. It's more efficient by far and the lather slots clear better than most razors I own. Light and nifty and effective riding the cap or steeper.
The thin cap makes it perfect for under the nose. Maintaining angle over the chin takes concentration. Arko doing the job just fine still. First pass over in seconds. This is a quick shave setup.
ATG and light pressure needed..DFS so leaving it there
cold water rinse and dryness expected after Arko. Cheap Nivea balm the perfect companion to use post shave.. zero irritation. In the name of cheapness I might go upstairs and dash on some 50% off on special Supermarket Brut aftershave too.
Could you do better with your last $20 on a kit? Probably not
Nah, cent for cent you can’t beat the Arko. Yes the pun was intended.
Maybe you could send him a shaving care package from a local business in Malaysia so it gets to him quicker or some blue devil from here.
Pre: Hot Shower, Nivea Skin & Stubble
Brush: Yaqi Everest
Soap: Blue Devil Tropical Colada
Razor: Rocca
Blade: Nacet (1)
Post: Nivea Skin & Stubble
Wow the Nacet is sharp and yet smooth. I was prepared to inadvertantly slice up my face but no. BBS- with barely any irritation. Thoroughly enjoyed the shave, and the Blue Devil contributed greatly to it.
Side story: Growing up in Malaysia, I remember the Nacet posters in pharmacies or drug stores and I always wondered why that poor crocodile was being sliced in half. Coming into the wet shaving hobby, seeing the Nacet again also triggered early memories of visiting my grandparents house, which for some reason had a sink and mirror in the corner of the dining room. I guess it was for one to wash their hands after dinner? There was a tuck of Nacets and a plastic razor sitting on the shelf there which I was always reminded not to touch. If we visited in the morning, I remember seeing my grandfather standing in front of that sink and shaving, and he always shaved with water only! Don't know how he managed that. He's currently 97, and I wonder what he shaves with now. It's been a while since we spoke, and also since visiting obviously. I hope I'll be able to visit him before long, if we ever get out of this pandemic, and share a shave with him. But preferably with soap and not just water.
