  • Havard Razor
  • Havard No-name blade
  • Yaqi 26mm Timberwolf
  • Barrister and Mann - Frankly my Pear
  • Nivea Sensitive
So, I have to admit that the light weight of the razor threw me off a bit. Even the KCG razor has a brass handle that gives it a little heft. At 56g doesn't feel like there was anything there. That pretty plating over the knurling made it slippery, with very little grip with soapy hands. Had to wipe my hands before shaving, something I don't normally do with a razor with better knurling. If it's meant to look like a Feather AS-D2, it certainly isn't as mild as everyone says the original is. I'd say it's around about a Rockwell 6S 4-plate. Mid-ish aggressive with plenty of blade feel. Or it could have just been the crappy blades. Just sharp enough to cut into the hair, not sharp enough to cut through the hair. First stroke of the razor, felt like the hook points on a piece of velcro. I adjusted the shave angle, thinking it might improve it. SCRAPE. Nope. Should have really changed blades at that point, but I'm lazy. Struggled my way though a single WTG pass and then called it a day. Tossed into the blade bank it goes. I think it isn't fair to judge a razor by a crappy blade, so I popped in a Gillette 7 O'Clock yellow for next time. I'll probably keep the remaining no-name blades for when I need to scrape off paint or something.

Edit: I just noticed in the photo how out of alignment the blade looks. Maybe that's the reason for the poor shave. Maybe. Anyway, checked it over for the new blade. Shouldn't be a problem. hopefully.

On Monday, my grandfather in Malaysia passed away peacefully in his sleep. He contracted Covid and had been in hospital for 8 days, placed on oxygen (not a ventilator). At his age, it was a testament to his own strength that he lasted that long.
Condolences mate, sorry for your loss and thank you for sharing. It sound like your grandfather had a wonderful life and lives on through memories of loved ones

A wonderful few days with this set. Did I mention I love the scent and performance of M&M
The Minora has dulled quicker than Aussie Spoilers but still DFS+
I realise why I like the Aristocrat so much because it performs similar to the blade forward modern razors I have gravitated towards

Last night's shave.

Not sure where else to write this. So please bear with me.

On Monday, my grandfather in Malaysia passed away peacefully in his sleep. He contracted Covid and had been in hospital for 8 days, placed on oxygen (not a ventilator). At his age, it was a testament to his own strength that he lasted that long.

I always thought he was a man of few words. I eventually learned that was because grandma (rest her soul) did most of the talking for him or at him. I remember him always having some burns or scratches on his arms from handling chemicals and goods at the shop (our family business) and shrugging them off; driving a manual transmission Proton Saga with no power steering well into his 70s (my cousins and I remember this beater car fondly); traveling to Australia every other year in his 90s to visit; and still going to work every day until recent years.

He enjoyed books, wine and recently, Korean dramas. He enjoyed being together with family; especially when we all managed to get together and have big family dinners. He fawned over his 10 great-grandchildren. Over the years I saw or heard of the many friendships he had with various people from all walks of life; the customers he happily entertained with long chats in the shop, the other proprietors who knew him from early days of business in Chulia Street, Penang more than half a century(!) ago, the boat owners from the nearby port who he sold chemicals to, or a renown local photographer.

Covid has taken a lot from us. It robbed my grandfather of the chance to see his family in his last moments. But it hasn't taken away my memories of him. RIP KK.
Condolences @neongas . Thanks for sharing. Grandparents have very special input into our lives and it's obvious that is true for you with your relationship with your Grandfather.

my condolences for your grandfather, he sounded like an amazing person. My god-father passed away last week so feel your loss, but as you said one thing that can never be taken away from us are all the beautiful memories... RIP

Razor: Lupo 72
Blade: Nacet
Brush: Omega Boar 10098
Soap: Tabac
Splash: Tabac Splash

Decided to test out the Lupo 72 + Nacet combo on two days growth and three standard passes. Another smooth mild shave but still very efficient. No weepers, burn or anything to speak of.

I love this razor and for me will be the perfect ‘in between’ days shave where you want a close and mild irritation free shave.

Of course. He's the most dapper miner in Australia. :p

I get where he's coming from, though. Even if I spend my day in jeans and t-shirt away from home, I like to have a "proper" shave. It never ceases to amuse my wife that my wash-bag is four times the size of hers. :)
@Gargravarr - I very much enjoyed your observation on the size of wash bags. Irrespective of the destination, my bag is appropriately stocked. 😉

Pre-shave: Hot shower

Soap/Cream: Noble Otter Two Kings shaving soap
Razor: Eclipse Red Ring

Great start to the day

Soap: Arko
Brush: Semogue 610
Razor: Tanifuji
Lock down - Day 1. Appropriately it is raining. Mental health is already deteriorating as is evidenced by the use of Arko (some might say a mild form of self harm). Family tensions rising - this cannot continue.
On the bright side - frames and trusses turned up yesterday so building is back on the menu. Yay.

Of all the fantastic shave soaps you have, I cannot believe you would torture yourself with Arko.:D

THOSE USING ARKO THIS MONTH, JUST STOP IT. THE PSYCHOLOGICAL DAMAGE IS NOT WORTH IT!!!

Pre-shave: Hot water, Pears soap
Brush: CaYuen "Copper Ore" 30mm SynBad
Soap: Ariana & Evans - Khalifa (y) @rhodes96
Razor: Blackland Vector
Blade: Schick Proline
Post-shave: Shower, homebrew moisturiser, La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF50+
COTD: Shakisso Estate, Ethiopia

This is the very last of my selection of samples from @rhodes96' vast soap archive, and what a great one to finish with. Of course, I still have the DRH Windsor, which I'll continue to enjoy for months yet. Khalifa is another that seems to feature strongly in his rotation, and again I can see why: this is a great soap. Scent notes of incense, tobacco, vanilla, oud and coffee give it a big, warm presence, though it isn't as much of a bathroom bomb as Club Baccara. I think I prefer this one. This Kaizen 2 base is almost too slick.

Pre-Shave: Hot Shower
Brush: TF Customs - P&C charity auction 2020 ivory 24mm 2 band finest
Soap/Cream: Tabac - Original (tallow)
Razor: Karve CB - Aluminum SB (B)
Blade: Gillette - Minora SS (42)
Post-shave: Nivea 2 phase lotion / Nivea Men - Creme moisturiser

2 pass WTG + touchups daily shave = DFS. One of the very few milder razors I can achieve a decent shave from. I have the D&F plates arriving shortly.

Yates Precision Manufacturing, Mild + Rapira Lux Platinum
Simpson, Chubby 1, Manchurian
Grooming Dept Bergamot Lavender
Stirling Bergamot Lavender balm

To my nose, the Grooming Dept is more lavender forward than the Stirling, it is also a fairly spicy lavender. It got the thumbs up from my 7yo daughter (and myself). Without having re-read errols razor reviews (pretty sure he has reviewed the YPM) I was impressed. I like longer handles and found the width to be 'elegant'. As for performance, I would rate it slightly less than my Charcoal Level 2 razors. i.e. certainly on the milder side, but still good efficiency. I also love the stonewash finish, very unique.

@Gargravarr you know how good the soap base is, this could be a new soap for your 2022 rotation! :)
