Pre: Proraso white pre-shave cream
Brush: TF Customs Boar
Soap: Squadron Group Captain's Blend
Razor: Vintage Gillette 1934 #88
Blade: Gillette Minora (4)
After: Tabac Aftershave Splash

My first outing with the newly arrived Gillette 1934 #88, a razor model with the sought after Raised Flat Bottom (RFB). (learn something new every day around this forum.. Cheers guys:coffee:(y))
Very surprised with how much 2 day growth it mowed down in the first pass. It's milder side showed in the 3rd pass, unable to truly tame the goatee area below corners of the mouth. I think I need a grinder for that area unfortunately. The force is thick and strong there.:(
Wonderful little razor though, definitely a nice shave from an old relic that still delivers what it was made for 90 years ago.
Boar brush going great guns too:). Real pleasure to use.

Pre-shave: Shower, Head Slick
Brush: Yaqi Barber pole Tuxedo
Soap/Cream: JB Supreme Cream, Blue Balls Devil - Lust
Razor: CB - C SB
Blade: Gillette Minora (4)
Post-shave: Cold Water Splash, Alum, TSW After Balm

Something didn't agree with me, so I'll have to find out what. Though I have my suspicions because only one thing was used for the first time. My lips feel like they've had a mild chemical peel, Hmmmm I didn't shave my lips

Must be the cold water splash. Gotta stay away from cold water. Fish fuck in it.

Pre-shave: Hot water, Pears soap
Brush: CaYuen "Copper Ore" 30mm SynBad
Soap: Ariana & Evans - Club Baccara (y) @rhodes96
Razor: Blackland Vector
Blade: Schick Proline
Post-shave: Shower, homebrew moisturiser, no sunblock needed today...
COTD: Shakisso Estate, Ethiopia

This soap features frequently in @rhodes96' SOTDs, so I guess he sort of likes it. ;) So do I. The scent is much stronger than I would ordinarily go for (I think this might apply to most A&E products), and that got a whinge from Mrs Gargravarr. I have a problematic relationship with A&E scents, often finding them cloying, but this one is good. The dry soap does smell sweet, but on lathering up, I get a lot of warm, spicy notes. The scent notes they supply are... "Indonesian Jasmine, Saffron, Orange di Capri, African Marigold, Ambroxan, Moroccan Cedarwood, Ambergris, and Fir Balsam". A lot of scents to put in one place, but it works. I'm normally not one to rave about incremental changes in soap bases, but Kaizen 2 is da bomb, noticeably improved on the previous version which was already pretty much perfect.

Last night's shave.

Not sure where else to write this. So please bear with me.

On Monday, my grandfather in Malaysia passed away peacefully in his sleep. He contracted Covid and had been in hospital for 8 days, placed on oxygen (not a ventilator). At his age, it was a testament to his own strength that he lasted that long.

I always thought he was a man of few words. I eventually learned that was because grandma (rest her soul) did most of the talking for him or at him. I remember him always having some burns or scratches on his arms from handling chemicals and goods at the shop (our family business) and shrugging them off; driving a manual transmission Proton Saga with no power steering well into his 70s (my cousins and I remember this beater car fondly); traveling to Australia every other year in his 90s to visit; and still going to work every day until recent years.

He enjoyed books, wine and recently, Korean dramas. He enjoyed being together with family; especially when we all managed to get together and have big family dinners. He fawned over his 10 great-grandchildren. Over the years I saw or heard of the many friendships he had with various people from all walks of life; the customers he happily entertained with long chats in the shop, the other proprietors who knew him from early days of business in Chulia Street, Penang more than half a century(!) ago, the boat owners from the nearby port who he sold chemicals to, or a renown local photographer.

Covid has taken a lot from us. It robbed my grandfather of the chance to see his family in his last moments. But it hasn't taken away my memories of him. RIP KK.

Before I even scrolled past the photo I knew that had to be a [Mining] Camp Shave!

Very classy one though of course!

Of course. He's the most dapper miner in Australia. :p

I get where he's coming from, though. Even if I spend my day in jeans and t-shirt away from home, I like to have a "proper" shave. It never ceases to amuse my wife that my wash-bag is four times the size of hers. :)

I'm sorry to hear of the news of your grandfather's passing mate. It sounds like you have some really great memories of him and also that was very loved by all as he in turn loved all of you. They definitely cut people from that generation from another cloth.

Thank you for taking the time to share your shave and your memories of him.
