Like I wasn't going to shave with my new shiny right away. :joyful:

So, in terms of vegan options, I usually like Wholly Kaw and Zingariman's versions better, but only because they're easier to dial in. Once you've got the SW's hydration dialled in, it's a slick as a wet ice rink. Good post shave too.

Pre-Shave: Hot Shower
Brush: Wolf Whiskers - Gryffindor custom 30mm blackwolf
Soap/Cream:
Razor: Muhle - Rocca R94
Blade: Gillette - Minora SS (50)
Post-shave: Oaken Lab - Earth of Mankind AS splash/ Murphy & McNeal - Old Sport AS balm

2 pass WTG + touchups = DFS+. What a great shave to celebrate 50 shaves on this Minora Stainless DE blade. The journey started with the Rocca R94, a mix a of razors in between, and has finished with the same razor as I started with. Still smooth and efficient on one side of the razor blade delivering fantastic ghostly smooth shaves. The other side of the blade when flipped is now delivering just an ok shave. Smoothness and efficiency have dropped off to what I would consider not acceptable. .For this reason I will retire this blade.

I will post a picture of the blade in the Minora thread so you can view what a DE blade looks like after 50 shaves.

To answer @Gargravarr and @SpeedyPC question, Yes it made 50 shaves.:):coffee:

I don't know, IF, I could ever squeeze 50 shaves per blade using the Minora SS on the Merkur 34G, man! this is a very serious blade stretching badass as YMMV.

Which vaccine did you take your first shot?....... AstraZeneca or Pfizer? I'm getting my first shot with Pfizer on the 8th of September.
Astra Zeneca as waited too long and Pfizer jab isn't available until October.

You have been blessed with shaving with the best blades out there recently. Your shaves are now coming back to reality with average blades.
As I haven't posted my current SOTD info yet, I will say after the last two shaves I have Minora SS withdrawl symptoms :D.
I have too many blades that need to be used and the GSB is a solid blade but agree Minora is the bench mark for awesome shaves!

Great effort stretching the blade to #50 shaves as I found from experience things were super smooth beyond shave#20 but my biggest issue was handling the blade poorly that it became a bit dull and no longer shaved as evenly as I expect. I have noted your previous suggestion regarding blade care and look forward to enjoying the most from my next usage of the Minora Stainless as they're truly amazing. (y)

I dont know about GSB blades, but I find with my R41 I need a very shallow angle (riding the cap to the max) AND and very light touch, and end up with an amazing shave.. of course lather etc

give that a crack with a polsilver in the Bronze OC
Great suggestion but what sets the Timeless Bronze OC apart from the equally beastly R41 is the blade feel due to the shape of the open combs.

My skin is feeling a tad sensitive as my immune system is dealing with a bug so the shave felt harsh but I find a milder blade can help to lessen the harshness of the shave with best results when using a Gillette Rubie Platinum blade.

Luckily the lather was super slick and a few days growth so not all bad, just a bit too close on the neck area and certainly a razor to use every few days as it lets you know it means business and complete opposite to the mild SB plate.

That Mike's soap has been making a few appearances lately - is this your inner lavender-head trying to escape? I haven't yet tried that one, looking forward to it next year. It helps that it's easily available locally...

I use the Mike's for its performance, the scent is simply chosen as it matches the A/S I have :)

I'm told by my GP the Pfizer is available, check with your medical centre and make a booking.
Things are different in Canberra with limited availability and most places taking bookings for October.

The fed's have allocated extra vaccines but we had 9,000+ youth register for a vaccine these past days and priorities for essential workers seeking Pfizer, hence my preference for the Astra Zeneca shot. :bag:

A Bergamot Lavender showdown:

2 x Simpson, M7, Manchurian
2 x Charcoal Goods, Level 2, Open comb
2 x new Astra SP
In the red corner: Stirling
In the blue corner: Grooming Dept

Now that was great. Please just assume that I did everything identically (or as close to as possible) so that I don't have to keep mentioning it. I basically bowl lathered the same amount of soap in two bowls and added water in turn. I then used the Stirling on my left side and Grooming Dept on the right. They both lathered wonderfully, and provided excellent cushion glide and slickness. However, for me, the Grooming Dept pipped it in post-shave feel, so wins here. However, I prefer the scent on the Stirling. The Stirling is more lavender forward ( I can see why @Gargravarr likes it so much). Whereas the Grooming Dept is more Bergamot forward. GD sample on its way to Tassie for a certain lavender head when I can get to the P.O.

Great stuff! :D I think you're the second person to say the Stirling is lavender-forward. I'm just not sure, maybe because any amount of lavender is never enough...:rolleyes: I'm not surprised the GD pipped the Stirling in the post-feel dept. The latter is a solid performer, but I think there are a few soap makers around now who out-perform the green tubs, even if only by a small margin. In my case, my post-shave treatment takes care of any deficiencies in the soap, so not a problem. I'll look forward to a reciprocal shave-off. (y)

There is a certain recognisable style and sophistication about a @TomG set up in the SOTD thread.

At least when it is not a camp shave!

Pre-shave:- Shower
Brushes:- TF Custom - Mallee Root & Burl
Soap:- PAA - Meta Nectar
Razor:- Lupo 95
Blade:- Minora (16)
Aftershave:- PAA - Meta Nectar

Minora @ shave 16 in the Lupo 95 was not DFS. Will give it a go in some of the other modern razors but may be ready for the bin
Meta Nectar is one of those nice powdery (barbershop?) scents: A complex blend of Orange Blossom, Honey, and Vanilla; manly and mystical. Other supporting notes include: Palmarosa, Gurjum Balsam, Patchouli, Bergamot & Cedarwood.
