Shave of the Day Thread - 2021

For me, the weekend has been a time of luxury for me in recent months, consisting in the possibility of being at home, and thus the comfort and exclusivity of shaving. The main heroes of that time were:

Before : Hot shower
Razor : Stright razor Almazka
Brush : Yaqi Mokka two band
Cream : Proraso yellow
Aftershave : Denim

The main hero of the second plan was a regulation paddle (strop).

It often happens that taking part in an event that has been carefully planned and everyone has received a role in it, there appears an element that is de facto known to us, but due to the nature of its participation, it does not enter the main plan of our attention. What's more, this type of entity can steal a large percentage of popularity from the main character of the event.
In the shaving I described, the main protagonist was the razor from Almazka, which has been written about many times and it can be written that there are legends about it. However, before this full-time hero entered the stage in order to refresh the cutting edge condition, he was directed to restoration.
I purchased the subject paddle with a string on a winding road full of traps. I had to conduct myself to conduct which I condemn and which I am not going to brag about. Anyway, when I came into my possession, I knew immediately that we would like each other, although I did not assume that it would be so. The oar is so simple that there is no need to break it. The materials used for its production are quite correct, and its rough workshop gives it aesthetics. Thus, I put them on the desk, sat down and without irritation that something was wobbling, wobbly or crooked, I started to drive in. A party on which I could focus completely, or even give him back, because I did not have to keep an eye on the tension, which was set permanently by adjustments. The performed activity made me feel very positive about the incoming shaving.
The next step was to dip the Yaqi brush in warm water and leave it there while showering. A hot shower allowed the skin to take on a different character. For the preparation of the facial hair, I used Proraso yellow cream again and gave myself my word for it one last time. It was not difficult to make foam with a Yaqi Mokka brush, but it is quite large, with brush gestures, so no wonder. While the foam on the wick looks good, its properties are, in my opinion, poor, which I have already described and I have found out about it again. Shaving the Almaz razor is so effective that in principle it would only be enough to go with the hair and ok. All in all, looking at it objectively, it could not have been better.
After shave denim looks delicious. This popular, budget range of aftershaves is really noteworthy for its properties and the entire fragrance spectrum.
The shaving went smoothly and gave me a clear understanding of how good it is to have time, with which a man of the 21st century carves the inside of his coffin instead of wrapping it against the north wind in the struggle with the Russians in the Arctic.

Brush: TROYCRAFT Clear/Blue/White 24mm 2 Band Finest
Razor: Blackland Vector Ti
Blade: Schick Proline P-30 (3)
Pre: Shower
Soap: Shaver Heaven Honey Ale
Post: Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm // B&M Lime, Lavender, Cedarwood A/S Splash
WTG, ATG, Touchups = BBS

A quick head/face shave and super happy with how easy the shave was that I can see the Vector replacing the Leaf/Headblade as my primary head shaver. Continue to be impressed with how soft the badger knot is and the finish on the handle is of a high standard that the blues really pop!

Day 9 of the Parker and Persona blade. This is still giving bbs shaves with zero irritation or weepers. Very impressed now I've really dialled in the angle, pressure and use. Blade showing no signs of slowing down making it more economical.

Razor doesn't clog and rinses immediately. Initially the lightness caught me out but I worked out it needs to be flush on skin and more pressure than I'm used to using. Will keep going to see what blade longetivity is.

I'm really enjoying this razor. Seems to me those that tried it out and discounted it as too mild didn't do it any justice by not sticking with it to find out it's sweet spot to get outstanding results. Too often in this hobby you read "used twice, not for me".

Give you’re leaf razor to your wife hairy legs, that way you won’t have to sell it.

Pre-shave: Hot water, Pears soap
Brush: Forgotten Art "Southern Skies" 30mm Snow Leopard
Soap: Castle Forbes Lavender
Razor: Blackland Vector
Blade: Kai PINK (2)
Post-shave: Shower, homebrew moisturiser, La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF50+
COTD: Monsoon Malabar, India

Same shave as yesterday, but no pic this time, as it was a dud. (No recycling today, yesterday's shot was on a gloomy, rainy day.) I'm still struck by now much closer the shave was with the Kai blade. I guess it took 3 weeks of using Prolines exclusively to make the difference clear. Maybe I'll do the same thing in reverse to make sure...

By way of an aside, and apropos of nothing, I managed to get my ear munched on by a leech while I was chopping firewood later this morning. Leech bites bleed forever under any circumstances, but ears bleed even worse. So desperate measures. I once tried using a styptic pencil on a leech bite, and it didn't do very much. This time (after washing thoroughly and swamping it with ethanol) I used my home-made alum solution, and it worked a treat. And it didn't even sting for once

By way of another aside, there are some who say you should leave a leech to finish his feed before attempting to stop him munching. Such people are full of shit. If you do that, you're letting yourself in for weeks of infection, swelling and oozing. Don't do it.

Are you saying a leech bitten the crap out from your earlobe??

No, I didn't have any crap in my ear. ;) He got me on the very top of it. For a while I thought it was just the string of my hat behind my ear until I brushed it aside and my fingers came away covered in blood. He can't have been very well attached, usually it takes a bit more to dislodge them.

Well… What can say? A very smart leechy Tasmanian bastard bitten you on the bloody ear, otherwise, you’ll end up like poor Pavel Chekov in the Star Trek movie called ‘The Wrath of Khan’ and you’ll have a major bloody headache.

They often hang from branches waiting to drop on to their selected clients. Just like drop bears, except vegemite doesn't work to keep them away. :p In this case though, I suspect he may have clambered into my hat while I left it hanging on my block-splitter machine (I was wearing a brain-bucket with earmuffs while making a racket with the chainsaws).

I've only seen the original Star Trek series, so you've lost me. I did, however, consider putting a big dressing on it by way of a Vincent Van Gogh impression... :p

Still trying to work it out
Leeches can work their way into the damnedest places. Their favorite trick (if they are unable to conveniently get into your socks) is to creep up your back, under your shirt. One of my neighbours got bitten on his nutsack a few years back. At least he saw the funny side when I asked him if it was a bad period this month.

I’m sure this would be very uncomfortable, if, the leech doesn’t bitten his willy, he’ll be out of action for at least a whole month.

That would be really bad, he's just turned 85, so he's probably more active in that department than all of us youngsters put together...
