Shave of the Day Thread - 2022

I drove home last night in the middle of a massive storm. I was roughly 300m from home, and got turned around due to powerlines over the road. When I eventually got home, the wife and I sat in the dark until power was restored 3 hours later. Thank God, for combustable heating, providing both light and warmth.
That's a nice thing about being off-grid. Our neighbours down the mountain were complaining yesterday about yet another power cut destroying the contents of their freezer, and I was like "what power cut?" :smug:

Pre-shave: Hot water, Pears soap
Brush: Troycraft "Opalesque" 28mm AP G5C
Soap: Czech & Speake - Oxford & Cambridge (Valobra)
Razor: Blackland Sabre
Blade: Personna GEM Stainless
Post-shave: Shower, homebrew moisturiser, La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF50+, Oxford & Cambridge cologne
COTD: Mocha Ismaili, Yemen

A heads-up for fans of Valobra/C&S: Mensbiz now appear to have stocks of the O&C soap, at the usual (expensive) price. Apparently C&S put in an order for a shitload of O&C with Valobra just before the latter slammed their doors, and they appear to be releasing it on to the market in small lots over a period of time. I just put in an order for another four pucks, so hopefully this is for real...

Pre: Proraso red pre-shave cream
Brush: TF Customs Boar
Soap: Muhle, Sea Buckthorn in a Troycraft Custom Jarrah jar
Razor: Charcoal, UFO handle
Blade: Gillette Minora #3
After: Alum block, unknown sample balm

I'm starting to like the lather created when soap is scraped off the puck and into the bowl for swirling with a damp brush.
You know exactly how much soap is used when done this way, and water content is easily managed too.
Plus it gives me something to use these useless little spoons on too, given I don't do sugar in my coffee.

Luckily I have a caravan to live very comfortably in when this happens.
Usually just fire up the Honda eu20 generator to keep the fridge and freezer going for shorter periods when needed.
Unfortunately, the future looks bleak when it comes to reliable, affordable electricity.

I'm the same, though I have a camper trailer. If the power was going to be off for any longer than it was last night, my portable generator would take care of the fridge.

In 2015, we had a massive storm sweep through and took out power to my place for 5 days. My fridge/freezers that I have both in the camper and my Jeep kept the food cold via their solar charged batteries and a BBQ via a gas bottle took care of dinner. It wasn't convenient but we lived comfortably while the rest of the neighbours sat in the dark.

You mean this soap?

It will only let me put 7 in the cart - so I'd suggest that is their likely stock level.

A&E have a winning formula there - make sure there's a nice pair of boobs on the label and it's a surefire guarantee to sell...

Since I couldn't comment on the Cloud super stainless during my first shave, because, the Chinese Cloud blade felt very very uncomfortable during my first shave, felt like a bloody real pain in the ass with a mixture of Rockwell Swedish Stainless, Sputnik, and the BIC Chrome Platinum paint scrapper from hell, very tugging and dragging. I'm very glad to have my most trusted Merkur 34C to test and properly review this Cloud super stainless, why? because the Merkur 34C/G has quickly tamed the Cloud blade edge to a comfortable stage, not very smooth and very comfortable at the moment. Now let's see how far I can push the Cloud super stainless edge to the maximum number of shaves, and see how far the edge will last.
