Sunday Covid isolation shave with Culmak“Shaving Soap”, a vegetal based recipe and comes as a very hard 99gm(3.5oz) refill puck. As a hard soap it’s at least twice the efficiency of soft soap so it’s equivalent to 200gm, so at about AU$13.00 delivered from Connaught in UK this is another “Awesome” Bang-for-Buck value soap. Culmak Shaving Brush Co Ltd has been around since 1805 in the UK and was originally an artistic brush maker that later started producing shaving brushes that were very popular at the end of 19thand start of 20th century's.
Shave Result: After some experiments I found the best way to get a good sample of the hard Culmak puck was to use a cheese grater to grate about 1.5gm of soap and press into my lather bowl with a couple drops of water to help stick the soap scrapings down. The soap took a little longer to produce lather but still ended up with a lovely rich creamy lather. I did a small change in my lathering procedure I used a 10ml syringe to add water to the build instead on my normal spray bottle (now relegated to IPL sanitiser spray). No issues with lather performance, it was great. To me the scent was a light pleasant generic citrus barbershop soapy aroma, scent strength was 3/10. There is not doubt that the Karve AL Overlander is now the cream of the crop in my DE collection, had a wonderful easy DFS with no irritations.
