Lupo 95
Nacet
TroyCraft 26mm 2-Band Badger
A&E Peaches and Cognac soap/splash

Dont think I tried a nacet in the 95 before, but if its so good in the 72 why not the 95? well it certainly impressed by retaining the smoothness while upping the efficiency. This brush by @TroyTools is just amazing, cant speak highly enough of it :)

How good is the sticky with a vintage Wilkie in it? :D

A full blown shave
  • Prep: Hot Splash
  • Razor: Razorock – Lupo Aluminium
  • Razor: Gillette – Slim Adjustable (L1)
  • Blade: Wizamet Super Iridium
  • Brush: Yaqi – Lucky Dice
  • Lather: Ariana & Evans – Strawberry Fields
  • Post-shave: Proraso – Alum Block
While I’m still on personal leave for my surgery almost two weeks ago, I thought I would take the opportunity to take my time and have a full blown shave.

Whenever I have a full blown shave, I always like to start with the dome.

Loaded up the Aluminium Lupo for with a brand new Wizamet blade. I’ve never used a Wizamet before, so didn’t know what to expect from this blade.

Started with a thick lather from the Strawberry Fields. I don’t think I used enough water for the first pass, the soap and hair wasn’t washing off the razor easily. Struggled cleaning the razor through the first pass on the dome, but after that, added some water and didn’t have a problem after that.

A second pass followed and I’m down with a nice head shave, ready for the next dome shave.

After the dome, it was time for the face, and another attempt with the new vintage razor. Moved the Wizamet across to the Gillette Slim Adjustable, and lathered up the face. The lather went on smooth, and was soon shaving with my newest razor.

The first pass trimmed down the few days growth that I had. I’m still getting used to the razor, but the blade reveal isn’t as much as I expected, might have to try the next level of aggression.

It is still a great razor, I just haven’t adjusted to how it works with my face and skin. I always have this problem with every new razor. It is just part of the learning process with how each razor works. I find that regular shaving makes this much easier to do.

So today’s shave is a success, and it brings back memories of pre-lockdown life and shaving regularly. I need to build good habits that give me time for myself, time to put myself first.

Post-shave: Shower, homebrew moisturiser, Avène Sunscreen Aqua-Fluid SPF50+, Stirling Bergamot Lavender EDT
COTD: Mandheling Sumatra

A late entry for my Thursday SOTD. It seems like only yesterday that I mentioned Stirling Bergamot Lavender as my Desert Island Soap (where you can only take one). Since then it seems it must have slipped in the ranking a bit, edged out by some sublime milled soaps, as I haven't picked it up for at least a couple of months. It's still a damn fine soap though, with by far the nicest scent I've ever tried from Stirling.

Trying to do my job and be Acting CEO is a pain in the neck. A lovely shave to start the day, and a special package in the mail, helps to keep you going!

Have I mentioned how much I’m enjoying this razor? It’s so efficient. I had very little time this morning and the above combo was all achieved in about 15 min, shower included.

SOTD – Fri 4 Feb 2022

For the month of February I’m featuring an unobtainium soap, VALOBRA MENTHOL, a soft Italian shaving soap. Originally the soap came wrapped in waxed paper & protective cardboard box, I moved the soap to an empty plastic container. Scent described as: “Crisp / Fresh Mild Mentholated Barber Shop Scent”.

First time using the Valobra soap it has a dry consistency (probably dried up over time) and the lather started a bit bubbling but it quickly beat down by adding water slowly resulting in a rich creamy glossy lather. Lather performance was excellent, a solid Tier 2 performer for me. Lather scent was a pleasant Italian barber shop scent with light menthol, scent strength about 3.5/10. Shaving with the Leaf is a breeze, the Derby Premium blades felt sharp with no tugging. Overall an excellent clean, smooth BBS.

Spent the last week working from home so been lazy with the shaves but the last few have been enjoyable using some great gear. The brush is one of my favorites as the feel, shape and colours are nice and the knot whips up plenty of lather. The soap smells great and is a minor adaptation to the original APR base so plenty of slickness and post shave feel. A real shame @Sxot retired as his soap was good! Not much to add razor wise as the Vector shaves smooth as does the Apollo and the different handle pairs perfectly for feel and balance...

Stay Safe & Happy Shaves!
