"Tuesday" from the Titan 1918 ACRO T.H-70 M7DS off a freshly lapped and pasted 0.1μm hanging balsa strop. (The balsa is starting to get a little thin so I might have to renew it within a year or so.) Face lathered with Derby stick and Chinese synthetic brush.

This was my first shave with a Derby stick. Interestingly the stick felt a little scratchy as I was rubbing it on my wet face. Not sure what is causing this. Before I use this stick again, I will scrape the end down to a new surface to see if that improves thing.

As for lather quality, the Derby stick was acceptable for SR shaving but not up there with my tallow Tabac or ARKO sticks. It lacked their slickness.

Tonight is my monthly lodge meeting so I'll get a second SR shave in for the day 😁. I'll shave with "Evening" T.H-70. Might even try the Derby stick again.

Tomorrow will be "Wednesday" with ARKO stick.

Pre-shave: Hot Shower
Brush: Yaqi Barberpole Tuxedo 30mm
Soap: Phoenix & Beau Spitfire
Razor: Cheap and nasty Wahl DE Shavette
Blade: Astra Green (3)
Post-shave: Alum Block, Nivea Aftershave Balm and some of the Missus' face stuff.
Music Cold Chisel - When the War is Over // Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms.

Much better shave than yesterday even after receiving some shit news from the guys I served with, that's for sure. Got pretty close to a DFS with just the shavette and minimal touch ups from the Rockwell. Hopefully my technique can improve even more so when my Feather SS folder arrives I can make a good go of it. However, not sure if there's something in Spitfire that my face doesn't agree with, I noticed that after using it this time, my face broke out into little red dots all where the cream had been even if I hadn't shaved there, hopefully it's not the soap as solid performer for me.

/ Yaqi Moka Express
/ Mystic Water Rosa Limone
/ Robin Razor Snap V1
/ Gillette Minora (1)
/ The Ordinary Mandelic Acid Toner
/ Nivea Skin & Stubble

The Minora seemed uncharacteristically rough on this first shave. Maybe it'll smooth out on the next one, or it might be a dud.

Finally took the Colibri for a spin. This is a beautifully designed and highly polished razor with positive grip knurling on the handle that grabs like scales against the grain.
Was worried about the blade tabs but they don't protrude any further than Gillette Slim. Was tempted to jump straight to 1.5 from all previous SOTD and reviews but chose to start at the bottom 0.80 in the end.
Maybe the smoothest shave I have ever had while still achieving a DFS.

Last night I shaved (for the second time that day) with a Titan 1918 ACRO T.H-70 straight razor. This SR is my "Evening" SR. I lathered again with the Derby stick, this time scraping the end back to a new surface to see if I could remove the slight roughness I felt on the stick yesterday morning.

The Derby applied smoothly. The end surface was obviously contaminated prior to its previous use.

The shave result was my typical DFS+, smooth and comfortable. What I did notice was the the edge wasn't quite as keen as my other SR's. This was only noticed while performing a fool's pass. I am putting this down to this SR seeing limited use and thus not being stropped on 0.1μm hanging balsa as often.

This morning I put this SR through a full diamond pasted balsa strop progression before waxing it and putting it away. This should improve the edge. I'll see how it goes next time I shave with this SR.

SOTD – Wed 16 Feb 2022

Aussie Wednesday shave with Brutal Truth – “To MO, or NOT to MO?” a liquid cream with a completely Vegan base and all natural ingredients and essential oils. Comes in a 250ml plastic pump bottle that is well priced so very economical. Scent described as : “A crisp blend with oils of Mint and sandalwood to keep you feeling alright.”. Brutal Truth Pty Ltd is a company based in Melbourne, Victoria and provides “Indispensable products for the everyday man”.

Shave Result: Brutal Truth is a liquid cream designed for brushless application, however, it also lathers up well with a brush, so I was able to generate a lovely rich glossy lather quickly in my bowl. IMO lather performance was surprising good for the price, great slickness, cushion and residual, I would rate this cream a solid Tier 2 performer. For me the cream scent has Woody, Minty aroma with some Citrus, lather scent strength I give it a 4.5/10. The Edwin Jagger DE89 is mild razor and a pleasure to shave with, overall a lovely smooth clean DFS.

Soap: Pb Camphorwood Rocker
Brush: Omega Black Horse American Barber Style
Razor: Blackland Dart
Blade: Ladas (5)
Very enjoyable shave with the Dart.
Finally got up to Qld to visit my son and his wife. Someone told me pre border opening there were a million border pass applications unprocessed and I'd believe it with the amount of people up on the Sunshine Coast. Probably not quite quite as crowded as Canberra though :)

Noticeable increase in blade feel and efficiency with 1.10 base plate
Preferring Colibri design over START or Karve - shame those blade tabs aren't covered

Interesting the way those blade tabs provoke a reaction with some people and none with others. My old 34C left them very exposed, but it never bothered me. I just didn't go stuffing them up my nostrils. You could always just snip them off with a pair of scissors...

It's been so long since using the 34c I don't recall the blade tabs being exposed. I did slice the nostrils a few times with the Slim and learnt the lesson quickly. Nowadays it's habit to push the nose out of the way
