Shave of the Day Thread - 2022

...I enjoyed this shave so much that I caved in and ordered a few unscented Valobra pucks from Heldenlounge:cool:
I too have ordered a couple of pucks from there, just to supplement my 7 backups of O&C. Have to pick up these quality hard soaps where we can, there aren't too many left. The good news is that DRH (touch wood) appear to be resisting the temptation to reformulate or disappear. Let's hope I haven't jinxed them by saying that...

Yesterday was my 800th SR shave, with six passes and reported here. That shave was with "Saturday" Titan 1918 ACRO T.H-70 and face-lathered Proraso green cream.

This morning's shave was my normal three-pass with "Sunday" Titan 1918 ACRO T.H-70, face lathered using my almost finished Nivea Sensitive Men Regular cream.

"Saturday" (LH) & "Sunday" (RH)
That ends my shaving with my English M7DS until next time.

Tomorrow (Monday) I will start shaving for a week with my first real SR, a Titan ACRM-2 T.H.60 and Proraso green cream. I haven't done this for about two years.

SOTD – SUN 20FEB 2022

A shave featuring the new Homelike AL Baikal V2 razor. The Baikal is made of D16Т grade Aluminium (high strength, high corrosion resistance) and has a Satin industrial type finish, comes with two plates giving 4 aggression/efficiency levels. Baikal V2 is definitely inspired by the Rockwell 6 (or visa versa) but is not a copy as it has some different design features: no blade overhang; thicker base plate; accurate horizontal blade alignment pins; small blade reveal; secure blade pinch point design. The aggression/efficiency levels do not match the Rockwell levels, they are larger blade gaps and bigger spread between plates but still has the neutral blade exposure throughout. By my visual comparison of the blade gaps:Baikal #1 is like Rockwell #2.5; Baikal #2 is like Rockwell #4; Baikal #3 is like Rockwell #6; Baikal #4 is like Rockwell #8.

Shave Result: Made a lovely rich lather from the Valobra Menthol soap (this month’s featured soap), performance is excellent and scent is a light very pleasant fresh lightly Mentholated Barbershop aroma. Based on my previous visual gap assessment I started the Baikal on plate #2 and shave felt mild, smooth and efficiency similar to Rockwell on plate #4, it was a real pleasure to shave with, overall a wonderful DFS (near BBS).

The reno is actually proceeding though it's looking like 12 mnth+ project (was supposed to be back in last Oct-Nov).
Brush box flooring turned up and the builder is excited as it's very consistent. It's installed temporary upside down for local seasoning and as a work floor til plastering is done.

Razor: Blackland Blackbird
Blade: Vintage NOS Gillette Platinum Swede (1)
Post: Thayers Cucumber Witch Hazel, APR Festivus P&C 2018 LE Aftershave Lotion

A scintillating shave. The olive oil base of CRSW's Oliva is excellent, lathering easily and providing very good slickness and cushioning, and a lovely post-shave feel.
The scent is a delight - a clean fresh green fougère. The vintage Swede blade scythed down my four day growth smoothly and effortlessly, leaving me grinning.

No, the hand grenade isn't real, I use it was a prop for my Uniform Collection. If the cap offends, I'll fully understand and will remove the post as I'm not here to glorify an ideology, I'm just a collector of historical artifacts.

SR Shave No. 802

This morning was the start of a week of shaving with my first true straight razor, after I learnt that my first was a RSO. For this week I am shaving with my Titan ACRM-2 T.H.60 and face lathering using my first soap Proraso green cream.

full

It has been many months, possibly over a year, since I last shaved with this SR. I expect that my technique has probably changed since then, hopefully for the better. It will be interesting to see if I can remember the experience of my first SR shaves and compare them against what I get now.

The edge on this SR is not quite up there with the standard of my others so I will put it through a full diamond pasted balsa strop progression after each shave until there is no more noticeable improvement.

Pre-shave: Hot water, Pears soap
Brush: CaYuen "Watermelon" 28mm AP G5B
Soap: MdC Rose sample (y) @Hos
Razor: Blackland Vector
Blade: Schick Proline
Post-shave: Shower, homebrew moisturiser, La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF50+, Stirling Bergamot Lavender EDT
COTD: Mocha Matari, Yemen

Another great shave with @Hos's unkillable sample. Well, almost unkillable, I think I'll see it off tomorrow. I'm definitely going to order a jar of this McC when I've whittled down the collection a bit, I reckon it's pretty good value compared to some of the milled soaps I've been buying lately.
