I'm really getting to like this razor. (y)

This new Titan ACRM-2 T.H.60 6/8 Dutch (round) point, half-hollow and dressed in Madagascan mahogany scales, arrived yesterday. I honed it up last night.

It certainly needed some work. Nothing wrong with the grind but what a mess the bevel was in. Their factory honer must have been a female first-year apprentice. Not knocking females (got to love them all), just that whoever honed it probably has never SR shaved their face.

I corrected most of the honing faults on 1k and finished setting the bevel on 3k before moving up to 8k and then lapping films (5μm, 3μm and 1μm). From the lapping films, the edge was finished on a full diamond pasted balsa strop progression (0.5μm, 0.25μm and 0.1μm). Final pre-shave stropping this morning was on a Kyrgyzstan calf-hide strop.

Washed face thoroughly with Pears Transparent (India) bar soap and rinsed until squeaky clean. Lather was prepared on face with Palmolive Classic stick (German) using a Chinese synthetic brush.

What a shave. Probably the best I have had with a new SR directly off its first honing session. A very comfortable DFS+ result with three passes; WTG, XTG+fool's pass and another XTG in the opposite direction. I don't put this down to the blade but I think that my honing skills are improving.

/ Oumo G5 Cove
/ Stirling Gin & Tonic
/ Muhle Rocca R95
/ Gillette Platinum (1)
/ The Ordinary Mandelic Acid 10% + HA
/ Nivea Skin & Stubble

The Platinum, usually my fav blade in vintage TTOs, seemed a tad underwhelming in the Rocca. Still BBS, just a touch more buffing to get there.

SOTD – WED 9 MAR 2022
My Aussie Wednesday shave with Whispers From The Woods– POLO. Whispers is a Vegetal soap produced in the rural Black Springs area in NSW, about 140km west of Sydney. Scent described as: “This Polo Shaving Soap is a traditional shaving soap with a wonderful scent reminiscent of Polo Sport by Ralph Lauren. This scent has notes of Tangerine, Seaweed, Pineapple, Rosewood, Oakmoss, Ginger and Sandalwood.”

🎥 Shave VIDEO 🎥

Shave Result: The Whispers soap lathered easily to produce a lovely shiny, rich, dense, creamy lather using my standard “moist brush+dry soap+add water slowly (via spray bottle)” build method with a generous half teaspoon of soap. Whispers soap can take quite a bit of water, used 20 sprays in today’s build. Today’s lather was well hydrated and performance was excellent, overall another great Aussie soap. Very pleasant masculine cologne style scent although bit on the light side, scent strength 4/10. The DE89 clone is a mild razor similar to KCG,love the blue handle, first time with the Zorrik blade which performed well but not as smooth as some, still had a great DFS.

Pre-shave: Hot shower
Brush: Billy Goat Brushworks/G6 26mm 2 band Sunset Mallee burl
Soap: Blue Devil ‘Vetiver’
Razor: Blue Wonder 6/8
Tidy Up: Brass Karve CB ‘F plate’.
Post-shave: Alum block, Pinaud Special Reserve, Armaf ‘Club de Nuit’
First shave with the Blue Wonder after setting the bevel with the Suehiro 1K, then Suehiro 3K, Shapton 8K, Naniwa 12K progression. Hopefully I’m doing something right; it shaved
pretty good but seemed to require a steeper angle than is often recommended, probably about 30 degrees. I managed to get about 95% of my face done before
calling it quits and tidying up with the Karve. Very satisfying when finding the Karve doesn’t have much to do! Technique (both honing and shaving) still a work in progress but
I’m happy with how it’s going so far. I have a brand new Proserpine razor arriving soon, that will give me a good reference point for the honing side of things.

I hope you get yours. Paid for mine 02 December 2021. Posted 07 February 2022 and still waiting, now over 4 weeks since posted. Proserpine is only 650km south east by road from where I live. Steve does not reply to my emails politely asking if he has a tracking number.

I cannot find any Colling in Proserpine listed in the white pages. I may have lost a few hundred dollars.

Caveat emptor.

Haven't paid for it yet; Steve said he would send a PayPal invoice when it is ready. I hope your issue is just with Aus Post or courier and not at Steve's end. He did say he just started a new job and can only make razors on weekends now. Perhaps floods/weather has played a part in the delay of your razor; hope it arrives soon.

Yes, I'm aware that he recently started a new job. I also hope that it is just an AustPost issue. I wish I could contact him.

If you have contact with him, please ask him to email Richard in Mareeba. He has my email address.

I'm sure your money is safe. Lately, AusPost seems to be making a habit of playing the COVID card as an excuse for tardy delivery. It's wearing a bit thin. If you succeed in obtaining a tracking number, a small prod often elicits a sudden flurry of action.

Was a bit skeptical of RAWR having read some reviews that indicated it's a polarizing scent. Fortunately I am on the pro side :)(y)

If you like Rawr, there's a good chance you might like Hamami. However, that one really is polarising, IMO much more so than Rawr, though it shares some of the scent notes. My wife hates it ("Eurrgh, what's that stink?"), and I love it. In the interests of domestic harmony, I didn't replace mine when it ran out.
