SOTD – SUN 6 MAR 2022

Sunday shave with Catie’s Bubbles – SFWS SUMMER SOLSTICE. Catie’s Bubbles is a Vegetal soap with only 9 ingredients plus fragrance. Scent described as: “Sweet citrus notes of bergamot & watermelon blend into a green heart of basil & geranium on a base of sandalwood, aldehydes, cashmeran, and hedione.”

🎥Shave VIDEO🎥

Shave Result: The Catie’s Bubbles soap has a hard texture and dried out enough to form a puck, so scraped out a level half teaspoon of soap and squashed it into the bottom of my lathering bowl. This is my first shave with Catie’s Bubbles for many years and I had no problems quickly generating rich, high density shiny lather.Lather performance was excellent. There’s plenty going on in this fresh sweetish citrus, floral, greens with woody background, scent strength 6/10. The Parker TTO is quite mild and you have to watch the handle doesn’t unscrew, otherwise had a great DFS with the Wizamet on it’s 8th and final shave.

...and again. Just enjoying this sublime soap while it's still in the flush of youth at over 70 years old.

Been a while since I posted here, life just got a bit hectic these past few months. Anyway, the stars aligned today, both kids had play dates and my wife was booked in for a hair appointment. This left me with a few glorious hours on my own. Three and half passes later and there was not a hair to be seen, nor felt. Fenchurch is just such a wonderful soap. It shall be sorely missed when it is gone.

Although the Comoy's of London served me well while away, it's good to be back home and having access to my modest SR collection. This morning's shave was a Ralf Aust 6/8 (22mm wide) American (square) point full hollow, maintained on a 0.1μm diamond pasted balsa strop and dressed in blond horn scales. A Palmolive stick (German) face lathered with a Chinese synthetic brush provided the slickness for a very comfortable DFS+ result.

/ Yaqi Moka Express
/ Blue Devil Tropical Colada
/ Yaqi Raster V3
/ Kai Captain Titan Mild (2)
/ The Ordinary Mandelic Acid 10% + HA
/ Nivea Skin & Stubble

First few strokes and I was thinking the Kai felt a tuggy. Adjusting by riding the cap resulted in a very comfortable shave with no post shave "hot spots". Not as sharp as the Feather Pros but the comfort meant easy buffing. BBS.

YOTD
Rocca R95
Muhle Blade
Omega 11137
MdC Argumes
Don Marco Splash

Excellent shave, this Muhle blade is just keeping on and without doubt my longest running blade. Not sure how many times i have used it but has to be at least 6-8, still going strong. Was a pleasure to have the Omega back in action, had previously glued it in wrong and was like the leaning tower of Pisa. I tried to overlook it but couldn't handle it (pun intended) so fixed the bugger up and an absolute please to use a fully broken in boar again.

SOTD
Rocca R95
Polsilver
Zenith Boar
Blue Devil Lavender Soap / Balm

Thought I would swap out the Muhle blade for a fresh Polsilver for a super smooth and sharp shave but was let down by the lather quality today which i put down to the brush. Huge difference between the broken in Omega and the Zenith, looking forward to when the zenith
finally breaks in. The only issue with boars is the break in period, until then they sort of feel like broomsticks but once they do there amazing.

Soap: Stirling Bergamot Lavender

Post-shave: Shower, homebrew moisturiser, La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF50+, Stirling Bergamot Lavender

I've been meaning to try the Super in this razor for a few days. A few manufacturers explicitly say they don't recommend this blade, like it's a voracious monster that lives under the bed. I like it a lot better than the Feather Pro. In the Claymore Evo it's definitely assertive, perhaps even nearly as much so as the R41 but without the latter's mechanical deficiencies, so overall it's a lot safer. This combo is certainly fast, DFS in one pass, DBS (dolphin butt shave) in 2½ passes. I'm not yet sure that I would always go for this, but it's definitely worth keeping a pack of Supers around for.

Chinese no-name was a bit of a disappointment in the Claymore compared to Vector and Hawk which had no noticeable efficiency difference between no-name, Feather Pro and P-30.
Looking forward to trying the Super next as that might be the sweet spot :)(y) Will put the no-name back in the Vector to see if its the razor, blade or combination.

Good stuff, I wasn't going to bother persisting with the Chinese No-Names, as I've been finding them a bit meh. I think I've still got over 70 of them left, so they'll probably end up in a PIF lot that I'm planning to let go at some point.
