Timeless Mix'n'Match

Pre-shave:- Shower
Brush:- Troycraft Aluminium 24mm Bulb
Soap:- Saponificio Varesino 70th Anniversary
Blade:- Wizamet (5)
Aftershave:- Saponificio Varesino 70th Anniversary

Razor:- TISLIM Titanium Slim with Crown Handle
Baseplate: 0.68 SS OC

Today put the 0.68 Stainless Open Comb baseplate in the Titanium razor with Titanium Cap and handle and the lighter weight definitely reduced the assertiveness of this baseplate. The Titanium Razor felt a bit more comfortable with the added weight. The common theme amongst the 0.68 plates is their ability to perform across all angles. I find I can rock between SB and Cap and get the same result.

Prep: Valobra Glycerlanolina soap, Myrsol Emulsion
Brush: M&F / Brad Sears Finest Badger
Cream: Proraso Cypress & Vetyver
Razor: Above The Tie S1 / UFO Tornado
Blade: Vintage NOS Gillette Aussie Spoiler (8)
Post: Thayers Cucumber Witch Hazel, Proraso Green Aftershave Lotion

An effortless shave with this set-up. The Proraso cream gave me a post shave that was very good indeed; punching well above its weight.

Great looking shave you had @TomG - now THAT is clearly not at a mining camp

/ Oumo Lotustip "Goblin"
/ Blue Devil Shave Co Tropical Colada
/ Blackland Vector
/ Kai Captain Titan Mild (4)
/ The Ordinary Mandelic Acid 10% + HA
/ Nivea Skin & Stubble

My first badger brush, and for the life of me I could not get a good lather going at the start with the infallible Blue Devil. The brush just felt so water logged. It was probably from the soak I gave it while I had a shower. I gently squeezed all the water out and started again. Much better, but it's probably going to need a bit more breaking in.

I have the Raster V3, which I rate highly for its price/performance ratio; so how does the Vector compare? The Raster shaves very well but the Vector is just next level on the whole. It's such a pleasure to look at, to hold in hand, and to use with its fine machining and balance. If you consider tactile pleasure as part of the shaving experience, the Vector delivers in spades. And you certainly pay for that pleasure. The Raster will be relegated to being my travel AC razor.

Congrats on the recent additions to your shaving den.

Using a badger brush takes some skill as they use natural hair which holds more water than synthetic fibres so you need to work harder to achieve quality lather. Initially soak the knot in water, shake excess, load the soap approx 30-60 seconds and depending on your method (bowl or face) you either add extra drops of water or more soap and work the brush until you reach consistency that resembles sour cream for optimal results. Be warned that denser knots can be lather hogs but with practice and patience you will be rewarded with quality lather!

Soak it and give it 3 or 4 good shakes, should clear out most of the water but leave it sufficently damp

I’m not at all sure that my technique is optimal but I don’t soak my Oumo LotusTip brushes at all….just a few seconds under the tap until wet, and then squeeze or flick out most of the water to leave the brush damp. I prefer the slightly increased backbone with a badger brush that hasn’t been soaked, and is merely damp.

I load hard soaps for 45-60 secs, mostly using the tips, very little pressure, adding just a few drops of water, but could probably get away with 30 secs. I also find that the LotusTip brushes like a lot of painting strokes without much pressure on the bristles; i.e. just a smidgen of splay. I face lather for 2 minutes before the first pass, and then 30 or so on the 2nd pass.

Pre-shave: Hot shower
Brush: TF Custom / Oumo Lotus Tip 26mm
Soap: Barrister & Man ‘Barristers Reserve Cool’
Razor: Dovo Solingen straight
Blade: N/A
Post-shave: Alum block, Razorock Emperor, Armaf ‘Club de Nuit’

Another 100% straight shave; the little Dovo not quite as keen as the Bengall or Blue Wonder but still very adequate. DFS !

I think I noticed that on my second go. Didn’t need to work it too hard.

After yesterdays shave with the SS 0.68 OC in titanium razor decided to keep the full SS head and play with lighter handles.
The SSC19 isn't the prettiest handle but very well balanced with Timeless Stainless Steel base plate and cap
