Literally the first use, hence the questions :)

I suspected it might take some time after the morning rush it created. Oh.. and when I squeeze lather out, the soap is picking up a brown colour? Is that normal as it gets washed and used a few times?

That's pretty much normal and it might smell like wet dog for a little while as well. Natural hair brushes are my favourite so for me, it's worth the wait for them to bed in. As I said, it might take 20 uses to get to it's best but stick with it.

Aussie Wednesday shave with Verde Bath & Body– BARE MAN. Verde Bath & Body is a small Etsy Shop out of Brisbane QLD selling organic soaps and body products, as such Bare Man is an organic vegan shaving soap. Bare Man Soap described as: “Eucalyptus and Spearmint Scented Men's Shaving Soap in a tin, gives the perfect creamy lather . Our shaving soap is made with only the finest ingredients. Vitamin E and Silk Amino Acid will add extra love to the skin feel and post-shave skin conditioning.” The soap comes as a 90gm firm soap puck in a tin and cost AU$16.90, that’s 18.8 AUcents/gm which lines up to my “Exceptional” category, also the soap is firm and double the efficiency of normal Artisan soft soaps.

Shave Result: Bare Man is a firm but pliable soap, so easy to slice a small portion off the puck (about 1.5gm) and squashed it into the bottom of my lathering bowl before proceeding with my normal bowl lathering procedure. Bare Man soap was easy to lather and produce a lovely rich creamy, medium to high dense lather with plenty of volume. IMO the lather is a top performer all round, this soap would be a top vegan option. Lather scent was a lovely fresh minty eucalyptus aroma, scent strength 6/10. The Edwin Jagger DE89 gave an overall a smooth clean DFS, an awesome shave.

The P-30 developed some burrs during first pass and SE blades are not easy to palm strop, so I thumb stropped and finished the shave.

Name that tree! Some sort of "gumnut"?

It's some type of Eucalyptus, as it is bearing gumnuts (there are many varieties). Grevilleas (bottle brush) are different .

"A gumnut is the woody fruit of a eucalyptus tree. In Australia, eucalyptus trees, of which there are many (about 700 species before they split it and called half of it something else) are called gum trees. Hence the fruit they produce is called gumnuts. They are non-edible, woody vessels usually shaped like a sealed cup. They come in an amazing variety of shapes and sizes. "

That's what I was thinking, the leaves look right, cool stuff. Nice wood too. (y)

It has been well over a month since I last traveled and my Comoy's of London SR has been packed away in my short-trip (less than a week) dopp bag. I decided to get it out and use it for this morning's shave.

Matched with Palmolive regular cream and face lathered using my Chinese synthetic brush, this shave taught me a lesson.

The gear shown cost me about $30 new.

It was only yesterday that I was thinking that I hadn't used my alum stick for a very long time and I could probably pack it away. I didn't.

This blade takes a wicked edge and demands respect, a very light touch and total concentration. I let my guard down and it bit me!

Of course my technique is perfect so this nick must have been caused by a faulty blade 🤔.

Sounds like it may have been a problem with your water to soap ratio (i.e either too much water or didn't load the brush long enough)
Yeah badgers can be a pain to use when lathering so give it some time as if lather is too wet just load more soap and keep lathering with drops of water to keep it hydrated. The lather should look like cream after a few minutes of lathering up. I find by pass 3 my lather is super luscious and sour cream like but it does take more effort then using a synthetic as the tend to hold less lather with the bristles allowing for greater air flow.
As for the colour - new badgers need a few uses to get the funk out so just practice lather with some unwanted soap as the last thing you want is smelly brown funk ruining good lather.
