Razor: Boker Tree Brand
AS: Phoenix Sangre De Drago
Spoiling myself this morning with some favourite gear as consolation for getting danger close to 60 (58). I was looking for my Drachenblut soap to go with the Sangre De Drago but couldn’t find it. Beautiful shave. :)
We like to do big breakys for birthdays and Mothers Day so maybe an XL breakfast is in order. :) I’m thinking maple bacon and coffee. I think Mrs Pbgoose is thinking coffee and fruit mix (a blended creamy with rolled oats, almost smoothie). So, off to the kitchen.
Happy birthday mate, 58 is only middle aged ...🎩🎂

Shave Result: Shannon’s soaps are one of my favourite non-Aussie Brands and I consider their bases top tier performers, even the standard base. Off the puck the scent is a light refreshing aquatic aroma, however, lather scent strength was disappointing at 2/10. The Lord L6 gave a wonderful smooth clean DFS, although it did tend to drag when ridding top cap (I expect because of the raised “LORD” logo).

The Gear:

  • Pre Shave: Suavecito Brushless Shaving Cream
  • Brush: AP Shave “Ivory+RoseGold” with 26/56 Synbad
  • Soap: Shannon’s Soaps - INSPIRAZONE DI LUSSO
  • Bowl: Yaqi ABS Black “Duke”
  • Razor: Lord 3-piece, Model S.625-1 with AL handle (aka L6)
  • Blade: Lord Cool Super Stainless (2)
  • Astringent Splash: TN Dickinsons Witch Hazel with Menthol & T.Tree oil
  • Balm: Lucky Tiger Vanishing Cream
  • After Shave: Blue Stratos AS
  • Moisturiser: Nivea Men Creme (Face-Body-Hands)

Soap: B&M Seville
Brush: Omega 10098
Razor: Colonial General Brass
AS: Pb Bay Lime

The General is my most reliable shave. Almost can’t go wrong.
Reoiled the deck yesterday. Anybody got any preferences for decking oil? The builder used Intergrain Ultradeck. I went over the top of that with Sikkens yesterday. Feast and Watson gets a reasonable wrap on forums and is half the price of Sikkens. I was pretty happy with how Sikkens went on.
And the Javelot? That was my birthday gift from Mrs Pbgoose. That thing is awesome. I got the rifle mounting kit and case with it. Looking forward to trying it out. Looks like it will easily light out to 200m for a shot.
I have a preference for the Cabot's oil products. Not necessarily the cheapest, but reliable, long-lasting and they go a long way.

Is there anything wrong with 50/50 Linseed Oil and Mineral Turpentine?
That is what I used to apply to the local church doors every 2nd year

Hadn't even thought of that. I wonder whether the mould inhibitors in decking oil would help stop the greying of the timber over years compared to linseed? My deck gets a hammering in summer from the sun as it has no roof/protection.

Appears a number of Linseed Oils have mould inhibitors. The doors never greyed but were mostly in shade

I will look into that as I do like linseed oil. Decking oil smells pretty nasty going on and drying so linseed wouldn't be as nasty whilst drying. I wonder what longevity would like. I've already resigned myself to having to diligently reoil the back deck twice/yr as it has no cover. That would be the major factor compared to doors, being horizontal and exposed.

Linseed oil and turps is a great standby, especially if your timber hasn't already greyed. The Cabot's product helps bring it back from that state to some extent. My decking has partial cover from the elements (the roof extends ½ way across it) but the fierce UV from the sun here gives it a real hammering anyway. It's only 11 years old, but it already looks double that. :(
