A good shave this morning from easily one of the best soaps on the market, I'm down with a flu at the moment but even then I could (just) appreciate the homage scent. Two passes then a nice cold wash off then on with the APR aftershave to complete the proceedings - a very nice innings.

Have a great day you blokes :)

- THIS is a shave I could do every day. Yes. Thanks, @TomG. It's a happy swap and I appreciate the free blades too!

Hmmm, so you use the SV aftershave and then your APR one - interesting....

Does this have benefits? Should I buy another APR product then too?

Nice scent pairing, @todras. The Acqua Di Sydney is a really nice fragrance that I tried for the first time last night.

The fragrance in the SV is very low concentration as it is a non alcoholic composition of fragrance compounds i.e. Limonene, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Citral, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Citronellol.

My Acqua Di Sydney is an Essential Oil based perfume (8 EO's) with 3 aroma chemicals added (The marine notes are not possible naturally) therefore my aftershave (at 6%) lasts around 5 to 6 hours while the SV aftershave lingers for significantly less time. It's just the nature of the beast with aroma chemicals, you don't get the longevity unfortunately. Most big name perfumers use a minimum of 3 or 4 EO's then compliment them with aromatics to avoid this problem - it does cost a lot more though to produce doing it this way but the quality of the perfume, the silage and the longevity is well worth the expense.

It's about choice at the end of the day, I like the SV scent that's based on Aqua Di Gio and I thought in designing Acqua Di Sydney I could design something that works with the SV 70th soap.

An excellent shave preceded by an excellent lather, I can't really add much more than that :)

Have a bloody good day!

Razor: Vintage Personna Micrometric
Blade: Vintage Personna [England] blade (7)
Brush: Vintage Butterscotch Simpson 'AS2'
Soap/Cream: Saponificio Varesino - 70th Anniversary "Settantesimo" Shave Soap
Aftershave: Saponificio Varesino - 70th Anniversary "Settantesimo" Aftershave

With all this talk of the SV 70th I had to give it a run - oh, and place an order for the final bottle of APR Acqua Di Sydney ...

Friday evening shave, ready for the weekend.

Pre: Facescrub banh charcoal soap
Razor/Blade: Gillette Rocket HD w/Lux
Soap: Tiki Fougere
Brush: Geoff Andersen/shavemac 26mm silvertip
Post: Thayers, Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet balm & EdT

New shavemac knot/brush blew me away, so much backbone from a silver tip?????? Is it even possible?

The Tiki performed flawlessly, great lather and plenty protection. I don't know what kind of pixy dust they add to it, but it really agrees with my skin, scent is excellent too

Nice work @Snooze - do I recall you had a Feather SS as well or was that someone else? How do you find the DX vs the SS version?

BTW going XTG or ATG is fine for me with my DX - no more damage than WTG, particularly on a blade that already has a few runs on the board. Super Pro blade, lowest possible angle and a light touch = one great ATG shave - give it a try!

Thanks @RazorPlay - I do have a Feather SS also - I must say the DX seems to shave a bit closer than the SS (I was pretty impressed with the SS, but the DX is even better). I usually don't like going ATG with my shavettes but will give it another try as you suggest :)

Saturday Morning Wood Shave

Razor: Merkur Futur (1)
Blade: Perma-Sharp SS (1)
Soap: K Shave Worx Major Wood (first use)
Brush: K Shave Worx Gamechanger
Post: Alum / Proraso Red AS / Crabtree & Evelyn Indian Sandalwood Cologne

Thoughts...
- First Saturday free in a while. Yay. Slow shave and me time.
- Major Wood is a brilliant soap. It's very thirsty with Perth water but it's an absolutely slick and cushiony goodness factory. The scent is oud, sandalwood and cedar... I love the combo. Turning into a real oudhead. Get this soap if you like wood.
- This Futur will take some beating because it's so smooth and efficient. I know how to avoid weepers with it now and I really think it's becoming the daily shaver. This makes me sad a bit because part of me loved that I was keeping vintage razors in use. But this genuinely is an advance.

Fine "Platinum" (sample courtesy of @SydBJW)

I have been remiss in a number of things recently. Firstly I have not had the time to post my SOTD's which is quite alarming on a number of levels but secondly and even more so I have a number of soap samples that I promised myself I would work through and have not done so. Today's sample came courtesy of @SydBJW who I consider to be one of our finest members. I have heard many great things about the Fine soaps and it certainly did not disappoint. The scent is fantastic (this is the most important thing right @bald as?) but more importantly the sample produced a lovely rich lather and I was able to get a reasonable amount of water in to it. I did feel that the soap needed more water mid shave and added a little more to it but started to feel that it was not going to take a lot more and stopped. The lather felt very protective but I did feel that a little more slickness would not go astray. That being said this was only my first outing with the soaps and I have perhaps not quite got the lather dialled in correctly. A few more uses should provide a more definitive assessment. @SydBJW thanks once again for your ongoing generosity.
