2024 Shaving Acquisitions Thread

I actually moved a tub of this along here not long after I joined this forum. Decided to give it another go because (a) my post-shave routine is better now, and (b) I was recommending this Australian soap maker just a few days ago, and decided to put my money where my mouth is. I just love the way Alex presents her work, it's just lovely. (y)

Very nice! No know this brand

Pre-1945 "Le Jaguar" by Champredon Roddier. They were bought by Le Grelot in 1945 when the war ended. I have been looking to add one to my collection of French SR's for nearly a year. Most of them are either in very poor condition or way too expensive. This one came up four weeks ago (blade only + box) on the French ebay site and I watched it for a week before placing a bid. At 03:30 AEST I was the only bidder and picked it up for $58 delivered.
This week it will get new scales.

Following a slight incident of knot swell and a tiny split in the wood knot socket, I took the brush to Troy who lathed of the "socket'' to retrieve the knot. Following around 1/2 an hour of looking and comparing Resin blanks and Off-cuts for colour match etc etc an Off-cut was found (Red Candy Fire, with Gold glitter flakes) and Troy then went to work. 10 days later this is what I received, as I said to Troy in an e-mail ''rapt no bloody rapt'' in the outcome and quality of his work and service.

Fun pick up at the last Aliexpress Choice sale. Yaqi Pagoda Mirabilis. This thing is tiny! And different with the thread post milled on the handle instead of the head of the razor. Will be giving it a go tonight.

Ah. Inspired, no doubt, by the fabled Darwin. But to Yaqi's credit, they didn't just copy it. Interesting...

Apparently they homaged this Italia Mirabilia Pettine. As I own neither the original or a Darwin, I can't say how it shaves in comparison. The shape of the cap does force you into fixed shave angle, and if you deviate from that angle, you'll miss some patches, needing touch up buffing. The shave itself is kind of uninspired (like much of Yaqi's line up unfortunately), and I'm not the biggest fan of open combs. I'll stick with it for the next week, see if it improves.

Rusting away already, and it's only been used once?
