AusFarce or AusFantastic?

Just received this from Austpost / Shopmate

"Thanks for contacting Australia Post in December with a ShopMate enquiry. Firstly, I'd like to apologise for the delay in getting back to you. We've received a large volume of enquiries, and a technical fault has prevented some of those from being resolved within the normal timeframe. My name is Andrew and I'm happy to help you today.

I can see via ShopMate that your item was discarded 8 days ago. I completely understand that this could have been avoided if your case had been resolved in the normal timeframe. With this in mind, can you please reply to this email with a copy of your merchant invoice so I can investigate the possibility of compensating you for this unfortunate outcome. (my emphasis)

Once again, I'm so sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing from you shortly."

This was for a large box of assorted soaps, a Simpsons Berkley brush, a Merkur slant and some other goodies. I purchased them from another forum member in the US back in October last year.

Long story short, Shopmate did not reply to any of my multiple emails or "service enquiries" and the time period they held the item for (3 months) expired and the item was "discarded".

Anyone else have similar sad tales??

Lets see what they do about this...:punch:

Im using Shipitto now (or I will when I fail my sabbatical :bored:)

I do have some positive news to report!

After Shopmate destroyed my package and was unable to be contacted, they sent me a money order for equivalent of $150US which was the value of the order.
Still not using them again though

So not exactly Aust Post related but they seem to do better than my current USPS package.
Still haven't got it and not sure where it is.
Probably doing a Wizard of Oz with Cyclone Debbie.

So LA > Auckland > Perth > still in the air

I've not had a great experience with a (group of) courier(s) recently either.
My parents ordered some chocolates from the UK for Wifebert as she loves the Hotel Chocolat ones - expected delivery before Christmas!
On Feb 17 my mum got an email from Hotel Chocolat saying they had been returned to sender. So mum checked our address, and confirmed it was correct and asked them to resend.
I got an email from a courier (that doesn't service Darwin) to see if my delivery had arrived on 13th March - obviously it hadn't, so he got on to the local courier about delivery.
Two days ago I got an email saying that I could go to Toll at the airport to pick up my delivery, and when I got there I see this:

Partially eaten by rats!

Amazingly, they sometimes actually do their job!

Well I actually have a positive AusPost story today! I went to my local PO around 4:45ish this arvo to post a brush off to @nav1 and there's a mad queue and they're taking forever and the bloke in the van shows up to grab the mail at 4:55 and I'm only just at the register buying my express post envelope and I think I've missed the run so I'm filling out the envelope and the driver sees me through the window, waves to me and points to the envelope. I give him a nod and thumbs up and he comes around to the door of the PO and takes it from me :) so there's at least one top bloke at AusPost.

While auspost in general are hopeless my local bloke who does the parcel run is absolutely fantastic. He knows to bring everything in and leave it at the back door for us if no one's home and if I am home or the missus is home he stops and has a chat for 5 mins or so.on the flip side if they send packages out with the posty I get the old prefilled card for pickup at the Po treatment.one of these guys gets beer left for him at Christmas and Easter and I'm sure it's not hard to work out which.

Posted an International Tracked parcel to Aus late on Monday afternoon. Tracked through the UK no problem up to it’s departure from the UK to Sydney early on Wednesday morning. It’s then handed over to Auspost for tracking from that point. No update since...

Kiss your parcel goodbye...

Way too early to worry. I have had a few parcels from the UK and the same thing, a big rush in the UK and then nothing for a week or more. Remember AusPost don't work the weekend, and this is a long weekend, but also they don't seem to scan items on arrival at customs which is where I think they stay for a few working days. Just when you start to think it must be lost it will pop up in Granville. From there, if you're lucky, they will continue in the right direction unless it happens to be another weekend, which it often seems to be. Watching tracked AusPost parcels might be one of the most frustrating experiences!

Yeah, too soon to be worried.

I lodge parcels over the counter if I want any chance of the 'tracking' working. Lodged in a street post box and often none at all.

Even over the counter I will get that initial scan and then often nothing, to delivery and sometimes beyond.

AusPost tracking is only worthwhile at those peak periods when occassionally it works and you see your parcel from Canberra to Adelaide go to Melbourne, then Sydney, then back to Melbourne before heading to Adelaide ...

Definately Ausfarce from me as I too have experienced delays in tracking / delivers when receing mail via USPS. Lately mail has arrived to AUS within 3 days and shows it being in Sydney but 5-7 days pass before any movement or updates on Auspost which is very confusing as you know they generally don't deliver on Saturdays (scans show activity on weekends) :banghead: I've also experienced local packages sent from Sydney to Canberra being passed through Melbourne resulting in delays of up to 2 weeks. Not to mention the pain of ordering from Asia  Don't get me started with having to pick up a package at the depo where they show you little respect and often try to convince you that the package is still with the driver so you have to come back, contrary to receiving a card the day earlier (n)
