Shave of the Day 2014

I don't often post SOTD's anymore, because my shaves have become pretty routine. Today was especially good, however, so here we go.

Brush: Duke 2
Soap/Cream: Mitchell's Wool Fat
Razor: iKon SB
Blade: Super Iridium
After-shave: Floid followed by Simpsons ASB

Despite having wet-shaved for a while now, it was only recently that I tried MWF. First impressions were good yet unremarkable, but it really clicked today. Contrary to the experiences of some, it lathered thick and easy and has left my skin feeling particularly good. Sharp blades always seem to do well in the iKon SB, and my favourite Super Iridium's cut exceptionally well. The result was an extremely smooth shave that was pleasantly irritation free, something I usually struggle to attain when I go for a really close shave.

Now I'm in two minds as to whether to continue with the MWF or compare it ASAP to Tabac...

Brush: Duke 2
Razor: English Tech
Blade: Vintage Schick (3)
Cream: Occams Original
A/S: Aqua Veva and 444
Be keen to hear more of your thoughts on Occams mate?

I hear ya mate, and would be keen to hear more as these, along with the Occams and P160 are shaping up to be my favourite soaps. How you proposing to have the MWF and Tabac go head-to-head?…as I'd be keen to try the same.

Also @Mong. mate, how instrumental do you think the Duke 2 to this shave? My Duke 2 has kept slipping in my estimation - I'd grab for the Thater anytime (and even my new butterscotch reknot) before it for sheer face feel and lathering ability. But so many love the D2 and Simpsons Best generally, I must be missing or have forgotten something - I'd be keen to rekindle that certain something with the brush otherwise it's off to the next face.

Sorry you don't get on with the duke stills, I just read the huge thread on you buying in at the start if the year, I was reading up kinda reassessing my brush options. So many people love the duke. Maybe lather up with the bristles in the soap instead of the handle?

I'll tell you my thoughts on the occams [emoji6]Best cream I've tried. The lather is just rich. Effortless. That's what I want in my shaves. Effortlessness! He said he has some more scent offerings in the pipeline too!..

Had some time yesterday here in Laos so tried the Mama Bear sample finally. Not my fav scent (vanilla & sandalwood) great shave in terms of slickness and protection and OK face feel, but nothing like Mike's, Stirling, Haslinger & co
But boy do I like my basic Vie-Long 12705B more with each shave!

Not too keen on the limes scent but it lathers just as well as the Occam's original. I just prefer the smell of the original.
Anyway that was shave 23.

And tonight shave 24 on the p74 was with the speick stick soap for a change.
Nice enough shave but the aftershave sting suggests the blade is on it's way out. I'll take it to 25 with proraso just to confirm that but I think I have just about found the end of the road for the tungsten blade

Egg if you like the original better I'd like to try the limes. I have a whole tub of original and will match you gram for gram! In a zip lock bag in the post means it will cost us both $1.40 max.

Nonick, it was a tiny sample that came in TP&CTB2. There is maybe enough for a couple of shaves left.
Fling me your address and I'll send it. No need for anything in return.

Brush: Omega Big Piggie
Pre-Shave: Occams Original Pre-Shave
Soap/Cream: Johnny GoodSir TMBR shave soap
Razor: 38C
Blade: Gillette Bleue Extra (GBE) [1] (HT @Monsta_AU)
After-shave: Johnny GoodSir AS

Wow! What lovely blades! Thanks to @Monsta_AU I've got a 10 pack of these Gillette Bleue Extras. Sharp and smooth as Mr Bond himself. Delightful to shave with.

Not sure why, but the big bad piggie ate my lather. Perhaps it was because of the pre-shave? I watched a video recently where it was recommended to wash off the pre-shave. I normally leave it on and shave over the top, but I ought to try washing it off next time around.

The lather survived enough to shave with but I think it was the blade that resuscitated the shave itself.

The AS is a sample from @stillshunter (as is the soap). It interesting that it's more oil-like than alcohol-like in its base. My skin seems to drink it up- much the same way it does with the GFT skin food. But the scent on this is glorious. I think I could pour it all over my face on a regular basis...

Anyone else other than Stillsy and myself have tried this AS? Whatcha thunk?

@Nightguard might be able to comment as he also has both….and try @Mark1966 as of this Saturday morning ;)

For the curious:
Scent is "single malt whiskey, premium hide leather, split wood and smoke […] Top notes of cardamom, whiskey, sandalwood, clove, cedar wood"
Tonic "astringent & soothing qualities come from witch hazel, aloe vera and tamanu oil."

Mark Weber, 3 day Astra, BS Synth.

Weber is very smooth with an Astra. No complaints and results as I've come to expect. The BS Synth is a nice surprise, this lathers really nicely. If I'm not mistaken, Synth seems to put a lot less air in the lather, so it gets wet and creamy very quickly. No bubbles. Hard to overdo the water as most of it comes out with one shake. It may even be softening a bit through the knot and splaying better, but that could be me working it better.

Anyone who likes brushes should really give one of these a go. Hard to go wrong for $12. Probably the perfect travel brush as you can shake, rub on a towel and put away in a case if need be.
Although mine does shed a couple most shaves shave, but at this price I'm not fussed. Different story if I've spent over $100...

Cream: ADP New formula
Razor: ASD2
Blade: Feather
Brush: Rooney beehive 2

Picked up a tub of the new formula as a comparison to the old. Well in short it's a fantastic summer "cream". The scent is a light sport type fragrance. Very nice. Skin feel is some of the best I have come across and has a strong menthol kick leaving the face feeling smooth and cool.

Sounds like it's comparable to the "Active" version of the original Speick. Though no where near as cheap... [emoji14]

SOTN or solar eclipse? [emoji4]

@Young Buck - What did you think of the Plisson you've borrowed from the cuz?
