Shave of the Day 2014

How you proposing to have the MWF and Tabac go head-to-head?…as I'd be keen to try the same.

Hard to say @stillshunter but I'm pretty solid with getting the best out of Tabac, so I'll have a bit of a 'reference' shave with it and then have a few consecutive cracks at the MWF. I might try a few different brushes too. It's mostly for curiosities sake, so that I can see if there are any huge differences between them. I think MWF already stands out slightly for it's moisturising qualities, but I like all-rounder soaps. I'm hoping I feel similarly about the MWF to Tabac, which is one that I feel comfortable with reaching for at anytime; including when I'm in a rush.

...how instrumental do you think the Duke 2 to this shave? My Duke 2 has kept slipping in my estimation - I'd grab for the Thater anytime (and even my new butterscotch reknot) before it for sheer face feel and lathering ability. But so many love the D2 and Simpsons Best generally, I must be missing or have forgotten something - I'd be keen to rekindle that certain something with the brush otherwise it's off to the next face.

Different strokes for different folks, mate. I like the D2 because for me, it's the right size for my technique and face, holds a good amount of water and has a good feel on the face. Because of those things, I think it's extremely instrumental to how good my shave was yesterday but that's predominantly because I'm so familiar with it. It's a good brush that doesn't excel in any one area, but is dependable and always good.

The often quoted YMMV applies here. You've certainly tried it enough to know if you like it, so if it doesn't work for you then don't hold on to it just because it's got Simmo on the label or you feel like you're missing something. It may just not work for you, and so the search continues!

@Nightguard might be able to comment as he also has both….and try @Mark1966 as of this Saturday morning ;)

For the curious:
Scent is "single malt whiskey, premium hide leather, split wood and smoke […] Top notes of cardamom, whiskey, sandalwood, clove, cedar wood"
Tonic "astringent & soothing qualities come from witch hazel, aloe vera and tamanu oil."
Can't say i'm a fan of the A/S scent, I love the smell of whisky but not in the morning, it does have a nice face feel though. The soap scent is just brilliant, very spicy and woody, to me it smells like Robertsons fruit mince.

Today's SOTD
Brush: Vulfix 2233
Razor: Rocket HD
Blade: Vintage Schick
Soap: MWF
A/S: Myrsol Formula K
First use of Myrsol, not bad, similar face feel to Floid.

Brush: Duke 2
Soap/Cream: Stirling 'Tuscany' (thanks @filobiblic )
Razor: Weber
Blade: Permasharp [2]
After-shave: Tabac

What a scent! Very nice. The stirling takes some time to load, I ended up revving the Duke for close to a minute. Lather was good once loaded enough - quite protective. Performance is very much in the vein of other tallow soaps - however I'd rate Tabac and the Johnny Goodsir as a notch or two above. All-in-all a great shave.

Brush: Semogue 620
Soap/Cream: Razorock XXX
Razor: DE89L (touchups with Wilko classic)
Blade: Personna Lab Blue
After-shave: Dickinsons Witch Hazel, followed by L'Oreal Hydra Sensitive ASB.

I find that the Wilko classic is so light and nimble and mild, that it works well for going back over areas like under the chin that I struggle with...

Off to second round job interview. Feeling fresh faced and ready to go :) Clearly the pre-interview shave with TOBS sandalwood worked last Wednesday, so I thought I would pull out the big guns this time with the XXX!

Best of luck with the interview @MrT !!!

Brush: FS Silvertip
Soap/Cream: ShaverHeaven 'Forbidden Forest' (v1)
Razor: 38C
Blade: Gillette Bleue Extra (GBE) [2] (HT @Monsta_AU)
After-shave: Speick AS

Having a run of fantastic shaves. The Shaver Heaven croap makes a wonderful lather for a great shave; surprising to me, but I'd say up there with the best. This is the first version of @Anthony's soft shaving soap so I can only imagine it's going from strength to strength. Loving the blades.

@filobiblic Thank you! I hope you enjoy using it as much as I liked making it!
The 38C is a great shaver! But truth be known, I haven't used it in quite some time, I've been all about the vintage razors lately.
I picked myself up another "Gillette Empire"razor and the blades were fairly sharp (although then need some attention).
I also got myself a "Stahly Live Blade", although I dont think it will be getting much use! Not use to vibrating razors!!! LOL!

On the strength of this review I took a chance and ordered grapefruit and forest. Looking forward to trying it Anthony, if it's good stuff it'll also get more glowing reviews [emoji12]

What's happening to your barbershop scent? I've been keeping an eye out for weeks

Soap - Queen Charlotte Cream 'Green Irish Tweed Type'

My first real win with this companies product! I was wrestling with using the synth and new soaps, it wasn't going well.

Back to the trusty boar the key is keep adding water! I only got thin foamy rubbish prior, but keep gently adding water a dab at a time and the lather just keeps expanding and thickening! I really enjoyed this tonight, face felt soft afterwards. It's just a thirsty cream, when it wasn't getting the water it wanted out of the brush it took it out of my skin. More water no problem.

Hope you read this at some stage Borked - keep adding water mate

I have been this close to buying this soap so many times. How good is it? In your top ten, five, three?
I'll buy a 5 quid sampler off you if you get it Stillsy! [emoji13]

When you can get beyond BBS, and towards the Peeled Egg, you'll be able to tell the difference...
What exactly are you threatening to do to me?

Also. Shave 25, and possibly the final shave with the P74.
It still seems to be shaving well, but even with my standard green proraso cream I am getting a bit of sting when I supply aqua velva aftershave afterwards.

It's been a good run - around 7 weeks but I think that is the end.

Something about finding you apealing ?
Must be something in the water out west...
