Shave of the Day 2014

Monday's shave was a new blade, decided it was time to give the somewhat unloved (yet I have 2,000 of the buggers) Gillette Dark 'Maltese' Platinum.

Surprised me with the sharpness in the Slim set to 7 - but not in a 'lost blood' way. Proraso Green & the Smoggie 730HD on lather duties.

Due for another shave in the morning and only at a '24 hour' level of stubble at about 38 hours! Underrated blade, maybe I need to use these more often! Silver blue will be next..

Re-knot butterscotch (must think of a better name for this brush).
TOBS lemon/lime, Streets Splice frozen fruit ice cream scented cream. Love this stuff. Am going to keep it going till my sample from @JugV2 is gone. Then Ill buy some more.
No 3 with the Wilkie in my trusted razor.
Lost some of it's serious sharpness. Fantastic blade so far.

Today was a battle if my most fav soaps.

Left corner tabac
Right corner cella

Ref merkur with astra, frank shaving travel brush.

Winner was the cella today with the masipan smell that makes me very tempted to try tasting the soap lol.

Seriously both the tabac and cella always give a happy shave start to the day.

First and I'm sorry to say last shave with the R41.
Tried everything in the book. Low to almost non existent angle and no pressure but it still felt and left the scars like I was shaving with a blade screwed to the end of a stick. Not that I've done the latter but that's how I imagine it would feel like.
Tried it with a Personna Red, admittedly a blade I know nothing about but I can't imagine it would be any better with any blade I can think of.
Sorry @JugV2 but this experiment is over!

All good mate, sorry to hear it wasn't a good experience. It certainly takes a bit of getting used to. I started with Voskhods and Gillette Blacks in it, the most mild.

Laser in a Gillette adjustable, using a smog of some type to smash Arko into submission.
Would not use this blade to strip paint.
Honestly is that bad, that I should of tossed it 1/2 way through the first use and not persevered into the second use to see if it breaks in and comes into it's own as I find Astra's tend to.

Tried Cella today with a day 2 Personna red.

Smooth as a baby's bum, I have this problem where once I start a shave I can't stop until everywhere is smooth. I tell myself before otherwise but I just can't stop.

I didn't like the Cella smell and am glad it receded quickly, I always remove the marzipan icing from cakes too.

But it was a really nice lather and a pretty smooth shave until I bounced the blade on my chin in an uncoordinated moment, no blood, just a red mark.

I might dial the Futur back to 1.5 tomorrow.

@hunnymonster sent me a Laser Ultra which unfortunately actually turned out OK in my quest for Worst Blade in the World. We decided that they must have done something about the quality and re-issued these as Ultras. If you have any "pure" Lasers left send one my way!

Yeah we've all been there and done that. It'll stop when you get fed up with having to slather on loads of aftershave/balm and moisturiser to get you skin ready for the next one. Although I highly suspect it's macho bullshit, there are some that claim to use daily use a new Feather in an R41 (my latest scary razor) for a four pass shave.

I'm with you on that one. It also doesn't get any better either. The more I tried Cella the more I disliked it. Excellent lather though. Even if you remove the icing there's still that lingering aroma. I just leave the whole thing untouched.

Where did you read that?

I do a two pass at best and I would never use a Feather.

Same here. Where do you think I've read that! The one and only shaving video I've ever seen was that weirdo Mantic with his bloated face and bulging eyes doing a three pass with touch ups using a Feather. His skin looks like chopped liver. I almost gave the whole thing away after that. A part of me wished I had!

Second shavette shave today, second shave with the same Gillette 7oc black blade. Trumper Limes Cream too.

For a single WTG pass I'm incredibly impressed, considering I normally do two passes (WTG & XTG) with the DE razor. For the first shave earlier in the week I did the first pass all over with the 'vette and then tidied up with a second WTG pass with the DE - this morning was just a single 'vette pass, and then a second touch up around the adam's apple spot - a few sideways hairs weren't caught.

No real battle scars, I had a slight derp moment starting on my left sideburn and actually sliiightly moved the blade sideways between my sideburn and my eye - sounds scary but it's no big deal - I have a light red line there now but you need to look for it to see it. Didn't bleed, didn't sting with the alum block either. Other than that, my adam's apple is now stinging a little after the multiple passes, I just have to smooth out the strokes on my neck I think. That and stretch the skin sideways.

Exciting stuff, I'm really impressed at how easy I found it today - I still feel a little gumby with the left /non dominant hand but it felt more natural today anyhow.

Fourth shave with the English Wilkinson that @Pjotr kindly supplied.

Long handled TTO Super Adjustable on 5
English Wilk on fourth.
TOBS Splice Cream (lemon lime)
Two passes was all it needed.
I don't really like the lack of feedback I get from this razor, having been using an R41 for the past year. It feels too soft.
However I am yet to use more aggressive blades in this so time will tell.

Finished up with some Joop smelly which has the ladies giving my admiring looks and their guide dogs cocking their legs on me.

Philistines!!!!!!!!

Cella is the best. Grow up and get some good taste and style ....

That was my impression too. I don't like the fact that because of it's weight, skewed towards the head, you've got virtually no control. Love the (over) engineering and construction. You should have a go with the two piece plastic/bakelite razor to get a feel from the other side of the spectrum. Although it's constructed like an open comb, it's not in the same ball park or in the same universe as an R41 in terms of aggressiveness.

So that I could continue using Cella I had to invest in a couple of new shaving accessories because it lathers so well.

One being a peg for my nose and the other a bulk pack of airline vomit bags, so I can be ready to use that magical stuff again.(just joking)

I grated up my Speick sticks last night and made a stick inside a screw up deodorant like container for travel and I also made a puck inside one of those candle tins from K Mart.

I also made some aftershave as an experiment with Witchazel, Nettle tincture and some essential oils and it works well but I have to shake it before use.

Nice shave today with my newly located in a tin, Speick and 4 day personna in Futur. Back to an Astra tomorrow though to bring a bit of adrenalin back into my mornings as caffeine just isn't enough sometimes.

With thanks to Jugs, I loaded up one of the English Wilkinsons this morning in the Fatboy. First side - no shaving. Seems that there is a dud edge on this blade, or it is not centred properly. No hair removal, no nothing. Certainly put me in a bad mood.

The other side shaved very nicely, sharp and smooth. So when they have an edge they are great. I will put it in the Pureman OC Proto to have a better go at it.

Lather today was courtesy of Speick. Haven't used it in ages, and the GF kept smelling me afterwards. The Lavender got her going I think!

Other tools as per normal - Smoggie 730HD, Muhle Bowl.

Have you compared the dud one to the others that Jug (you sure you're not getting your west aussies mixed up?) sent you?

I'm willing to call these blades a complete winner. Just had shave 5 and it's still damn sharp and as smooth as. I'm sure I can get another five out of these.
