Shave of the Day 2014

I found my last shickster hiding in the bottom of the blade box, and decided to give it a go.
I still don't understand the fuss about these blades. For some reason my face just doesn't like them but everyone elses loves them.

I'll persevere with it for a couple more shaves to see if it comes good, but I'm pretty sure I won't be bidding against any of you on ebay for these elusive blades.

First shave today with my new Feather stainless razor, I've been using a Muhlé R89 Grande for some time.
Feather blade.
Mitchell's wool fat mixed with Proazo red for my lather.
Mensbiz super badger brush.
I did three passes, W/X & A the grain.
Came out BBS! This has a mild feel, but it is very efficient and comfortable.
I think this might take over from my R89 as my daily razor!

That's blasphemous. The uncultured Philistine stick has come down for a lot less than those utterances.

Third shave with the same brush!

Brush: PJ Special - vintage butterscotch Culmak re-knotted with a TGN finest
Soap/Cream: Mike's Natural Soaps Hungarian Lavender Shaving Soap
Razor: Eclipse Red Ring
Blade: Personna Blue (day four)
After-shave: Lucky Tiger
Cologne: Special Reserve Double Strength Genuine Ogallala Bay Rum Cologne

I normally rotate my brushes but this one is so great to use I'm enjoying sticking with it for a while.

I shower and shaved last night before going out rather than in the morning and wanted to be gentle on my face this morning - thus the Lucky Tiger followed by cologne. The Lucky Tiger is great for restoring faces!

The Mike's lathers really well - he knows what he is doing making soaps. I picked this up with another tin on YWW - not sure I like the scent of this one but gee it works well.

Wanted to go the whole hog with a cologne with sticking power as later today I'm going to the airport getting a briefing, strapping myself to a stranger, hoping into a small plane, ascending to 13,000 feet then jumping out of said plane.

I'm not good with heights (hope this is a good idea) but want to at least smell non-offensive to my strapped on stranger.

I survived - and shaved today :)

Pic of the view over my shoulder just before I'm about to fall out of the plane over CBR

Did your instructor like your aftershave?

Rats, forgot to ask. Was too busy freaking out!

He was a Yank too, maybe I should have done the Old Spice?

Same here. Where do you think I've read that! The one and only shaving video I've ever seen was that weirdo Mantic with his bloated face and bulging eyes doing a three pass with touch ups using a Feather. His skin looks like chopped liver. I almost gave the whole thing away after that. A part of me wished I had!
Had you noticed http://paste-and-cut.com.au/community/members/mantic59.1132/ before you said that?

It is his birthday today, maybe you could make it up to him?

Nah. I just found myself on the members page earlier and noticed that it lists birthdays of the day on it.

Rockin' shave this morning. iKon SB w/ Perma-Sharp, Mike's Orange/Cedarwood/Pepper and Duke 2. Dense soap, dense brush makes for a thick lather with plenty of cushion. Good match for the sharp blade and angry razor. For aftershave, I switched up a little bit. I picked up a tub of shea butter in Sicily last year, and this stuff is interesting to say the least. It's only got three ingredients. Shea butter, vitamin E and some kind of binding agent. It's a little greasy but absorbs quick, and it leaves the skin feeling great. I wouldn't use it everyday, but it's a good cure for any lingering redness from an ATG pass. Nice to have in the den as a (relatively) natural post-shave option.

I am on day 3 with a Personna red and my face is quite bad with red bits everywhere. I could feel the blade pulling a bit.

So I am going to chuck it for tomorrow but the last time I tried one it lasted better than that.

Yeah, technique! But I did do a full on prep in my defence.

I might try and score some of those Perma Sharps from eBay too, seeing that you guys reckon that they are pretty good.

Also just a question. What is a shaving den, is it just your bathroom or do you have a dedicated room or some such thing?

To most it's just a dedicated space in the bathroom where you store your gear. To some it's an entire bathroom and to others it's half a house. Check out the pictures of your den thread over at B$B. It can get pretty obscene.

Thanks.
Off now to check it out as I will probably need to do some extensions to accomadate the electron microscope so that I can check my blades each morning.

Oops. Oh well. A similar observation nearly got me banned over at B$B. The fact that I didn't know he was a member wasn't considered relevant. I think it is!
The fact @mantic59 is a member here is great. I am sure he has a sense of humour about it, unlike some admins at another shaving board. That, or we will see some philistine-esque voodoo doll slashing action with a 4-shave Feather in an upcoming video.

Lets face it, to do all those videos and post them to youtube - there's something wrong with the bloke. But I respect the body of work produced and the amount of people worldwide which he has brought into the wet-shaving fold. He even has his own link on the Paste&Cut footer!

There's even an e-book floating around, and it is free!
