Shave of the Day 2014

I had shave number five from the Polsilver today and it is coming to its end. I might try one more for curiosity sake.

I found it to be pretty smooth even though on day 2 I felt like I had been in the Sun for too long.

I have been using different creams and soaps, today was Proraso red.

Yesterday was Body Shop Macca cream and I must say that it lathers like buggery.

Macca Root is good stuff. Amazingly efficient. I predict it'll be years before I get through my tub.

Shave no 11 with the (I think it's 1980s) UK Wilkie. Still fine but is leaving me with tubble so I that's it. Fine if you're shaving daily but I tend not to.

Shave no 1 with the maybe 1960s vintage Wilkie. All good, sharp, smooth and a lot closer of course.

Various re-knotted brushes with Sir Irisch Moos and TOBs lemon/lime.

Last week was on road and so carry on only.

Body lotion and Mach 3. Shaves were average and ingrown hairs by the end of the week.

I did find this shop in brisbane tho. It's got a great selection.

Had a big job interview today, so high end shave was required. Opened a new Perma-Sharp for the iKon SB, dug out the Mike's Natural Soap (Orange/Black Peppercorn) and Duke 2. Finished with TOBS Eton College. Nice citrusy combo. Sharp blades are so good in the iKon, pretty aggressive but it cuts through stubble like butter. Great shave, very smooth.

Sixth shave on the Polsilver blade and it was pretty good, GFT Sandalwood soap was used today.

Dunno what tomorrow will bring as yet.

Jug all at sea without his R41!

P.160 Morbido
Schemoggie 830
R41 "Facepeeler"
Derby Extra (2)
Alum
MARCO! and Stella ASB

The "'peeler" goes close. Really close. Be careful kids or you'll be hoping the chicks dig scars :)

Geez you blokes jump on a man's chin quickly.

So today I shaved.

Progress
Gillette 7 O'Clock Black
TOBS Shaver Shop
Semogue 1800

Lovely shave to get rid of two days stubble.

Two passes and a lovely result. No matter how often I use TOBS creams I am always amazed at the glide and lather.

I do feel a little lost without "the peeler" as SYD calls it.

I have a choice at the moment of a Bakelite, Progress, TTO Long Handle or some old antiques.

Who says peer pressure is bad?

Schick Krona w/ Perma-Sharp, La Toja stick and Omega #45. The big floppyish boar does really well with shave sticks, lots of coverage and good water retention. A bit of scrub is a good change from the softness of badger too. Interesting combo of super mild razor and sharp blade. Very smooth and comfortable shave, but lacking a bit in the closeness department.

Proraso white aftershave again. Boring. Maybe I need to get some more...

Oh - did I hear somebody say they need aftershave ....

Reknotted brush
TOBS lemon/lime. Almost the end of this sample. @JugV2 what was the other sample you gave me?
Bakelite with ultra vintage Wikinson on No 3. Not sure about this 1960s (?) Wilkie. Might have to call it MUM. Can get another one or two out but that's it. I'll try another 1980s (?) Wilkie next. Just to see if I wasn't getting carried away.

I think it was Shaver Shop. Just a nice light scented cream.

What a shave!

Brush: PJ Special - vintage buterscotch Culmak re-knotted with a TGN finest
Soap/Cream: DR Harris Marlborough Shaving Soap
Razor: Eclipse Red Ring
Blade: Personna Blue (day two)
After-shave: Tet a Tet

PJ knows what he is doing - amazing brush!

The TGN finest knot is very very soft tips BUT has great backbone. Really easy to lather.

Was that the bigger of the two? There have been a few brushes I've done I really didn't want to part with. Those Culmaks and Drubbings dad's brush for instance. Not that I'd consider it of course but the latter would have been truly evil. It really isn't that hard. The hardest part is having to deal with the density and varying qualities of the TGN supplied knots. There are others but TGN have got the biggest range and better the devil you know. The trick is to set the knots lower than you'd visually be inclined to. Even a few millimeters makes a huge difference not only to how it looks but more importantly to how it behaves.

Glad you had a run with it.

Used the Dovo Primo again this morning. Last day for it in the rotation. Shaved well Stropped it a few times before using with the cotton and CrOx . They are nice razors. Good balance, attractive but not overly done, holds its sharpness well. 3 passes WTG, XTG and WTG and a more than acceptable shave.

Yes the bigger Culmak - the distressed one!

Great brush :)
