Shave of the Day 2014

.........So who wants the Merkurs? First PM gets them or they will go in the Travelling Box.

Which is where they'll probably stay. I've got a pack which I've earmarked for a try as part of my worst blade in the world investigation. I've tried a few other made in Germany (Solingen no less) blades and one of them topped the list. Even the Wilkinsons which are now made in Germany are pretty average. It appears they can manufacture anything but razor blades.

Got to say my expectations weren't high, but my God this is the Staten Island of shaving rubbish. How did these things ever last this long and command the prices they do.

Surely they must suit somebody's face.

Anyhow, couple or three shaves here.

Various nice brushes
Frankensoap (left over bits of stick (Speick, Tabac, MWF etc) grated in a bowl)
Streamline with a GEM SS on No 5. Gave the blade the flick after that.
SPUD razor with Spoiler on No 3. As good as the first shave.
Getting back in to the SE/DE alternating routine.
Featherweight with a new blade next.

That frankensoap sounds good Pjotr.

I have had several shaves since my last input.

The Valet lasted 3 shaves, nice but it will be a little bit of history for me as I think I prefer modern stuff.

I can't find much to say as it is usually my Furur with a Perma Sharp and rotating my few brushes.

I have been into the soaps lately and had a Tabac shave yesterday and that stuff was so good.

Juggy inspired me to squirt some ARKO cream about the place.

Schlicky showing no sign of expiring and I must have done a bunch on it by now.

Semogue brush continuing to make lather despite it's severe handicaps.

7 shaves down with the GPP and got myself a weeper. Can't tell if it was me rushing or the blade at fault, so it lives another day.

Patiently awaiting my precious Proraso Red from the UK.

That's the one problem with some of the vintage blades - they last so long you forget how many shaves you have done on them.

Mitchell's Wool Fat/Proraso.
Mühle 33K256 synthetic brush.

My first shave with my Merkur 39C slant.

I don't know what the fuss is about with slant razors?
I wouldn't say it shaves any closer than my Merkur 38C or my Mühle R89 Grande.
After 3 passes, I still had to do the usual touch ups!

I thought it would have been more aggressive!
It was a smooth shave, but no quicker than other razors I own.

Saturday
Proraso pre
GEM OCMM
GEM PTFE coated blade
Mike's Vetiver soap sample merged with last bits of WM Neumann's Bay Rum soap
Omega 37 Boar
Myrsol Formula C
Myrsol Emulsion
Encre Noire EDT

Monday - as above except for:
Semogue 1800 Boar
Myrsol Antesol
Simpson's Unscented ASB
Creed Original Vetiver EDT

Great shaves with the OCMM. Very close. Love the way it leaves my neck with no irritation. Still can't understand how it does that compared to many of my DE razors which inevitably irritate the area when I try for an extra close shave.

The soap combo has been producing a brilliant lather. Great fragrance also. If I get through the Bay Rum, it will be my first RIP soap. It's taken about a year.

I love the way the Bay Rum and Vetiver go together. Both earthy, dirty. Especially like the combo of Krampert's Bay Rum AS and Guerlain Vetiver EDT which I've used a lot previously.

Merkur 34C with a fresh Astra blade
Duke 3
Czech and Speake Oxford Cambridge soap
Prorazo splash

Monday is my favourite day to shave. My stubble is longer and more pliable (Saturday and Sunday is my days of rest) making it easier to get a good lather and shave.

@possumbelly, mate you sound in a happy place face-wise. I admit I'm going to have to look a few of these acronyms up - as most are Hungarian to me. Probably put a few on my wish list. But got to say I got a buzz from the buzz you got for your Monday's shave. Thanks for sharing.
