Shave of the Day 2014

Yeah, blades can have any combination of Super, Sharp, Plus, Stainless, Platinum written on the wrappers.

Nah, what got me curious was the word "Permasharp (TM)" on the box/wrapper. But alas they are completely different to the Russian Perma-Sharp blades. The hyphen (and country of origin) makes all the difference.

Todays shave
Eaton with a brush

And shavett with a feather....

And there was blood!!!!! Nicked my nose and blead like a bastard and sliced up my neck....

6 months of De has made my straight skills very rusty.

Might have to skip shaving for a few days!!!

Feather Artist Club SS, 3 x pass with no blood but some slight irritation, as in a bit of tangible warmth throughout the day.

Speick soap (grated stick) and AS products with a boar brush. Nice and smooth.

Shamelessly hung my brush to drip dry until I get home.

Nice one. Facial warmth here too. Holding that blade to your face does tend to make the blood pump faster.

I loaded up a fresh GBE into the god-forsaken spawn of the devil R41 original.

Angle is key - cheeks were fine and even the neck. But when it came to the transition between cheek and neck, anywhere around the chin or top lip it was abysmal. It was a 1-passer.

Will clean up and send on. I have seen enough. Second pass I went back to the Fatyboy with a Malteser with one shave on it. Bliss.... although mind you my cheeks are still BBS even 12 hours after shaving, so the R41 definitely gets close.

New feather, same omega brush and ice & a slice soap.
Still only just enough lather for two passes but splashing water on the face after using a soap with that much menthol sure feels good.

Gillette Slim (2)
Schick Plus Platinum (10)
TOBS Jermyn applied with crappy supermarket brush. Will break out the Simpson this weekend.

Some tugging noticed today, I think the blade may be reaching the end of its useful life. I have shaved with much worse blades when using a cartridge system however.
Will run a new blade tomorrow I think, see if there is a distinct change, which may be hard to pick given my relative inexperience at this.

Can you shave anything with it on 2? That's very little blade to work with. Slims are notoriously mild most of the way up the dial.

Razor: Edwin Jagger DE89
Blade: IP Red
Brush: Omega #49
Soap/Cream: Cella
After-shave: Razorock Aftershave Wax (Original)

A bit of newness to this morning's shave, my first run with a boar. This #49 was lent to me by @Mong. (thanks mate!) I thought I'd try it with the Cella first - keep italian with italian. I expected more bite into the tub but the Omega was civilised in its entry. First pass lather was excellent, like I was treating a fungal infection with liberal doses of yoghurt. Very rich. Gave the first pass great cushion and glide. Sadly the lather petered out pretty fast after that though, so I think I need to charge up more next time. Weird though as, again, the first pass lather was so rich my experience with badger's would betray there better yet to come - so they certainly have very different properties in the hold do the boar and the badger. Having said that the boar felt nice against the face and didn't hog no lather.

Anyway, after three passes (1 with and 2 across (vice and then the versa)), and the cold wash, a nice shave had - with only one microscopic weeper (not a drop) under the nose…always tricky terrain for me. The Razorock, as usual, was the cherry on top.

Happy face, happy place.

One of the best shaving similes I've heard for a long time.

"Hmmmm that lather was so rich and yoghurty you could use it to treat fungal infections"

I like it a lot.

Schemogue 830
P.160 Morbido
Slim (7,7)
PSS (2)
ASG

Swish, splish, Swish Splish and the whiskers were whacked. Need to pick up a nicer ASB I think.

Several offerings here:

BS brushes
SIM and Macca Root: Both as yoghurty as hemorrhoid cream.
Bullet tip (GEM SS on 3) and SPUD (Spoiler on 3)

All dandy. As I've invariably got an SE and DE setup going simultaneously, the daft thought crossed my mind that I could try the GT method but decided I didn't have enough pharmaceuticals to push me to barking madness.

Gillette Slim (2)
Personna Blue (1)
Crabtree and Evelyn
Crappy Brush

I was expecting to notice a difference with the new blade going in, however, I found that it pulled more than I had expected. Perhaps it was the change from TOBS that I used the last two days.

Personna blue Dreamboat? If that is the lab spec it should go through whiskers like butter, they are sharp as heck out of the packet.

I'd suggest it's a lather/angle issue. Try opening the slim up to 4 (It is still very mild but it might make it easier to pick when you have hit the right angle) and go back to the TOBS. C&E can be tricky IME.

The other thing to consider is the blade gap is pretty small with your slim on 2. Are you rinsing the razor often enought? I find a slim can clog if you have a bit of length on the whiskers and the low setting would only exacerbate this.

Again in a rush. Daughter to dentist first thing this morning, running late. Used the Gillette '04 , with Polguard blade. 2passes great shave, used only water!
