Wee Scot
Irisch Moos stick
The Black Beauty Beast with GBE on No 5

Strange, almost overnight the blade went from an excellent No 4 shave to a tuggy affair. Anyhow, time to hand this machine over to Jug for try.

Monsta edit: I couldn't help myself to do a Yahoo!/ARKO! style rank in the style of The Register :)

Haha, I was trying to remember where I had seen that! style! headline! before.

Speick is one of the best lathers out there. I've never shaved with cold water but I'd say that's the problem.

+1 here for warmish water on the Speick.

I don't think I have ever used cold water despite the season.

Don't get me wrong, it lathers great. Just not quite as well as Arko (under the same conditions). I often create a cold water later (with something like Arko, or a menthol cream like Ingrams) in the hot weather. Then again, I've been known to have cold showers on hot summer days too. I really don't like the heat so the last thing I feel like doing is applying warm/hot water to my face.

Anyhow, chalk it up to user error with the Speick. Will give it a go in 'proper' conditions.

Just laying here thinking about getting up and shaving. Should do that and take my car in for its yearly inspection.... But just looked at the weather and just can't do it. (Remember it's F here!)

Same brush, same razor, same soap different blade.
I tried an indian Wilkinson blade RM sent me. A pretyy ordinary blade, I wouldn't have said it was even sharp. It felt like I was shaving with a used blade.

They have their fans, but I am not that enamoured of them either. Needs an aggressive razor usually.

Still on the Pureman Prototype/AussieGillette(4)/Proraso/Smoggie wagon. Great shave this morning.

.

Of which I am (probably the only) one. I find with the Slim at 7 they give a perfectly adequate shave with very little chance of removing your top lip.

What do the blades look like in the wrapper? I'd try one in the R41, that's pretty aggressive.

Monsta Edit - Like these:

Still cold -18 feels like -28. But got up early and shaved.
Str8 -Genco
Brush -Best Shave Horse
Soap -Nanny's Tradition (French style)
Aftershave -a Turkish Lemon
Balm -Neiva Sensitive
Older i get the more I hate the cold!

Had a not so good shave today - felt rather raw afterwards. Alum towelled off, then Nivea Sensitive to try and sooth the burn a little.

So, who were the offenders?

  • Pureman Open Comb proto
  • Aussie Gillette (5th-ish)
  • TOBS Jermyn St cream (Proraso Green previously)
  • Smoggie 730HD

Not sure what happened, maybe I got too aggressive with it. A few hours later and it feels okay.

I don't think so, had one in the Fatboy and it went 8 shaves no problem. Same box of blades.

Vulfix boar/badger
Irisch Moos stick
Bullet tip with GEM SS on No 6 (I think)

All good.

Stainless Dovo straight
Milk churn simo
Truffit and hill tester! Smells so good

Great shave! Missed my straight shaves

Now how long do simo's shed fur. This one looses 2-5 hairs every use and have for a number of uses. It's getting a little anoying picking hairs out of the lather.

Thank you Johnus. Although I'm not personally a flag waver, it's nonetheless a nice gesture.

Today's razor:
Str8: Kanner's Blue Steel
Brush: Omega 48(not a favorite)
Soap: Virgilio Valobra - my favorite Italian Soap.
After shave: Floid Blue
Balm: Nivea

Well today was the last day on this Wilk and probably one more day than I should have.

So I started on the 4th and should have finished after the 14th - that makes 10 days per blade with these.

Once I would have thought that was exceptional now it seems just average - RM and your vintage blades, what have you done to us!

Gee whiz time flies!

So the blade I changed today was put in on the 15 - used until yesterday was 11 days, probably one too many - definitely 10 days on them for me.

A Schick in today and changed to the Red Ring
