Today's razor:
Str8: Kanner's Blue Steel
Brush: Omega 48(not a favorite)
Soap: Virgilio Valobra - my favorite Italian Soap.
After shave: Floid Blue
Balm: Nivea

@ Johnus. Love to see photos of that blue steel in a shave of the day!

Ok, see what people mean about Arko...
Quite a distinct and unique aroma.
What it has done for me, is the realisation the The Colonel and his Amber does not work for me.
No problems forming a lather when brush loading in a lead crystal bowl, yet it also forms an irritation with an allergy (definitely seeking to trade what I've left now - make an offer).

As for blades, been trying everything from Lords to Sharks with feathers and Personnas added to the mix.
Only thing that I can differentiate between them is the time period they're still effective.

Yeah that's pretty much it with blades as far as I'm concerned. Some might be a bit sharper but after a couple of shaves that pretty much levels out too.

Anyhow. Back with my trusted SPUD (silly plastic utensil disease) razor with a new Shicksa.

You guys really don't know what you're missing. Complete control over the blade rather than just running some metal contraption across your face and hope for the best. None of this "my X razor is really good with this Y blade" or "if I dial this thing down to 4 it might be OK". You poor saps.

Vulfix boar/badger
Tabac cream.

Pjotr. Your sounding like a man who is ready to start using a straight razor. No more worrying about blades just how well you hone or strop!

I've considered it but I think my family would think I've gone a little bit too far and have me committed. No razors at all in the psychiatric wards.

Yesterday's shave and todays results.

Straight shave with soap etc
Some bad technique and today razor rash ::( might have to have a couple of shave free days to recover.

Aaah, Schick my old friend, how I have missed you.

Schick platinum plus,
Edwin Jager DE89,
TOBS Jermyn St

Finish with Thayers Witchhazel.

I think the EJ DE89 is a very mild razor, even a schick seems a bit lack lasture in it, although it was an effortless shave and the result is soft and smooth. Just a wierd sensation when shaving, I kept thinking to myself, "this is like shaving with a cartridge razor, effortless."

Raced through this one with a wtg/atg 2 passer. Was a bit rough on myself and the spoiler was probably a bit long in the tooth for attempting such heroics. new balde time for the Rocket. Good enough for work.

More nice pics John!

My post straight razor rash has settled and I brook out the De

Tabac with a brush
Futur
And schick (thank you Pjotr!).

I tried a more softly softly approach today and it worked well, let the blade do all the work.

Finished off with some witch hazel and then some moisturiser.

I had a good enough shave today.

R41
Gillette Black Plat
Boar

But what is annoying me is that I have a scrap of soap left in the Proraso Green bowl. It just won't die! I'm also finding that I am struggling to load the brush enough for two passes also.

Is it possible that over time the "lather-making" oils etc have risen to the top in the heat waves we have had recently, and that the remaining soap is leeched of qualities? Does that even make sense?

Second shave with the Wilkinson SPUD.

Brush: vintage butterscotch Simpson
Soap/Cream: Proraso Eucalyptus and Menthol Shaving Soap
Razor: Wilkinson Sword 'pre-Classic' two piece
After-shave: Proraso Aftershave Lotion

This razor is a hoot.

I dragged this around my face, with pressure, at a wide range of different angles.

It would not cut me and gave a perfectly acceptable two pass shave. Not BBS but certainly OK.

Yeah that can be annoying. In a similar vein, this is why I make a Frankensoap out of all my leftover bits of stick.

I think you've probably identified the cause of the bad lather in your first observation. Soaps will dry out and lose their volatile components such as the scent but the components that make them work (tallowates etc) I can't imagine floating to the top and evaporating.

By the way I'll give you a call to organise a Black Beauty handover.

I'm still shaving!

Coupla shaves.

Both with SPUD razors. One with a Schicksa, the other with a Gillette Dark Plat.

Irisch Moos and one of my Frankenbrushes.

Proraso splash

The Lab Blue looks to have suffered the same fate as the PSS in the Rocket. It's almost like there is no blade in the razor and not in the best way that comment is sometimes intended. Checking my notes I diliked the Lab Blue in my 34C for being in the Astra SP mould of very sharp and not so smooth, go figure!
