@alfredus thanks mate,
The Mergerss is a wonderful razor it just seem's to suite me, very smooth comfortable shaver.
The Simpson Duke 3 not Chubby 3 although i do have a Chubby 2 is a wonderful brush it took about 15 shaves for it to start releasing
the lather and not hogging it but now I'm rewarded with a great brush, its great for bowl or face lathering and it has very nice soft tips.
Regards
cranky

I found the same with my Duke 2. It was a lather hog to start with! Great now though.

On a side note and probably offtopic, Ive been meaning to buy a mergress for months, it seems that whenever Bullgoose has them in stock Ive forgotten all about them, when I remember and go to look they are out of stock. I also looked at an English? or Scottish? shave company that offered their own take on the progress with brass, chrome or gold adjustment knob replacements... I can't for the life of me remember their name though but I remember they were fairly pricey.

@todras you're not referring to this and it's call the Digress HD B Adjustable Safety Razor Brass Retrofit

Pre: Pears translucent soap
Razor: EJ DE89
Blade: Voskhod (2)
Soap: Arko shave stick
Brush: Simpson Duke 2 "Pure"
After: Alum, Myrsol Formula "C"

Tried out the Arko today, see my thoughts here.
Had a nice 3 pass shave. Very comfortable shave, no irritation and a DFS+ finish.
One happy camper! :)

The variability in shaving never ceases to amaze me, the only constant is that it's different for everyone. I have thought about dialing the progress around as I shave but I am happy with the results I get day in day out so it's something I have never messed around with. When I first got the Progress some time ago I started at 1 for a shave or two, then slowly dialed it up until I found 3.5 worked consistently well for me.

@todras BullGoose have the long handle Mergess back in stock as of yesterday not sure which one you prefer perhaps the shorter handle one will come back in stock soon https://bullgooseshaving.com/products/long-handled-mergress-adjustable-safefy-razor

Two passes with a 5/8" Puma honed on a Coticule with oil. So keen and so smooth. Gotta love it when a plan comes together.

Combination soap/cream in a scuttle whipped up with a balding badger - whipped dog. It sheds a bit but a good soak in warm water before use solves most of the hair loss. It is a good brush and much better when soaked before hand. I estimate when it stops shedding it will be quite thin.

2 passes DFS+
Really pleasant and very comfortable result.

Sword: Gem Push Button
Suds: Gent's #4 / Omega S
Salve: Pinaud Lime Sec

First shave with this type of SE. It's a great looker but I didn't think it would be a great shaver necessarily but it is, so bonus. I also managed to finish my first tub of homemade shaving soap!

Pre: GFT lime skin food
Brush: Rudy Vey Shavemac 2 Band
Soap: MdC
Razor: iKon B1 Slant
Blade: PSI
Post: alum, witch hazel, Myrsol Agua Balsamica

Lather achieved was great tonight, MdC could pick up quite an admirable amount of water.

Shave with the slant was a pleasant one, 2 pass plus touch up. Very close shave with not much problems.

MdC does leaves the skin a little dryer than the other offerings I have in the cupboard. However, great scent! Love this fougere.

Razor: Gillette Long handle Black Beauty
Blade: Vintage English Wilkie (4)
Brush: Shavemac 177
Soap/Cream: Shaver Heaven Spiced Mahagony V3 Tallow Super Soap
Aftershave: Thayer's medicated, Captains Choice Cat Of Nine Tails
Cologne: PAA Harvest Moon

@Steve_M - SH Spiced Mahogany - Capt CO9T - PAA Harvest Moon. What a combo! How did it work out?

Pre: Musgo Real Lime Oil Soap
Brush: DR Harris Best Badger H3
Soap: LPL Traditional
Razor: Feather AS-D2
Blade: Feather (2)
Post: Myrsol Emulsion
A/S: Myrsol Antesol
Cologne: Truefitt & Hill 1805

A four day growth, as I was giving my face some downtime due to some chin and upper lip blemishes. I forgot the Emulsion in pre-shave application, but you wouldn't have known it. A cracking 3 pass shave with small clean-up. I concentrated hard on technique, particularly light pressure and avoiding overlap.
My first spin with LPL - a most impressive soap. After a little time to break the crust of the new soap, lots of quality lather. Cushioning and slickness were excellent - lots of confidence in clean-up buffing. The most noticeable change overall was a lack of even minor irritation, although the soap was likely only part of the story. The Myrsol Emulsion and Antesol worked beautifully as a one-two punch to sooth and refresh my mug.
I think the LPL soap will be a great match for the Myrsol Agua Balsamica A/S, as they are both quite herbaceous. Will try this combo next time I use the soap.
Finished with an old favourite - T&H 1805.

Got matchsticks in the eyes staying up to watch the games in EURO2016.

Crown King Switchback 400
Crabtree & Evelyn WI Limes Soap
Darwin Deluxe
Personna 74 (7)
BdF Raffinato balm
Floid Blue aftershave

A C&E soap that actually lathers! Who'd have thought it. This Personna 74 blade still feels like new.

Razor: Weber Polished Head on Bulldog Handle

Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpson reknotted in pure
Soap/Cream: Saponificio Varesino 70th Anniversary "Settantesimo" Shave Soap
Aftershave: Saponificio Varesino 70th Anniversary "Settantesimo" After Shave

Love the SV 70th - great product in both performance and scent. BTW, after shaking the A/S for the last few uses I've now put the reducer back in - work fine.

Cold and frosty here in CBR this morning. On days like this I spare a thought for old @stillshunter looking after his animals - brrrrr

Preshave: Musgo Real Glyce soap and Proraso Sandalwood preshave cream
Razor: Progress(1.5)
Blade: Feather(2)
Brush: Shavemac 177
Soap: Acqua di Parma
Post Shave: Top Seven emulsion, Fine American Blend and finished with YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme

Lovely Sunday shave. Three passes to a very comfortable result. There was still a little Mikes in my bowl so I used it as well and the lather was superb. Enjoy your Sunday gents.

One mans 'cold' is another's bloody freezing. That temp makes Sydney weather look like the middle of spring.

Hows the cushion and the post-shave feel on the SV 70th ?
That vintage butterscotch you have sounds like something quite special too, I'd love to see a picture of it sometime.
