Two passes with a 5/8" Puma honed on a Coticule with oil. So keen and so smooth. Gotta love it when a plan comes together.

Combination soap/cream in a scuttle whipped up with a balding badger - whipped dog. It sheds a bit but a good soak in warm water before use solves most of the hair loss. It is a good brush and much better when soaked before hand. I estimate when it stops shedding it will be quite thin.

2 passes DFS+
Really pleasant and very comfortable result.

What oil did you use?

BTW I tried adding some Proraso Red to SH Tallow. It's was creamier, thicker maybe. Was it better? Dunno. I can certainly see the appeal of using white to get some menthol in there.

I have about 4 different honing oils that I have formulated myself but the one that works best on my coticule is generic supermarket baby oil. I only use oil on my Arkansas stones and my Coticule. Everything else is water only.

One mans 'cold' is another's bloody freezing. That temp makes Sydney weather look like the middle of spring.

Hows the cushion and the post-shave feel on the SV 70th ?
That vintage butterscotch you have sounds like something quite special too, I'd love to see a picture of it sometime.

The SV 70th is great in performance as well as smell, great feel post shave.

My avatar is a photo of my current line up. There are some other pics of my brushes around in both SOTD posts and thread like this -

My latest (?) addition, a Simpson Boar - [Rare] Vintage Simpson Butterscotch Boar

Any older photo - a number of these I've passed on to others now, only got about 10 butterscotch left - I'm NOT a brush collector - truly, I'm NOT a brush collector and I do NOT have SBAD!

My first Wee Scot (a nano - passed on to a collector but I have a vintage butterscotch one from earlier this year) - Great Scott!! It is 'wee' - but butterscotch as well!

Picture of its replacement from earlier this year -

This SOTD combination from last Sunday! Must be a habit :)

If you go cruising through the brush threads you will find more.

You'll get used to@Mark1966. I'm not sure that he actually has a brush that isn't vintage butterscotch... [emoji12]

Yeah, my travel brush :)

Can tell you haven't been around here long. @Mark1966 never has just one of anything when 27 will do.

Pre Shave:
Shower
Soap: Maggards Orange Menthol
Brush: Epsilon Vie Badger (On loan from @Draco Noir)
Razor: Manaslu
Post Shave: Alum, Proraso Splash

FRAT version below.

Today's shave is right up there with the best, if not the best I've ever had. After receiving my beautiful JNAT Ozuku stone from @Mark earlier in the week I spent yesterday afternoon with @Draco Noir getting a honing lesson. This involved a lot of theory but also the practical application of taking the razor @Mark had kindly given me, killing the edge, to razor sharp under Draco's watchful eye, including setting the bevel. Draco was also kind enough to lend me a set of his precious nagura stones so I could practise at home until I get my own set.

I had been planing on continuing using the Kamisori exclusively at least for another 10 shaves but the thought of using a razor I had honed was too great a temptation. I find the whole honing process fascinating and adds a whole new element of satisfaction to the shaving process.

Draco also lent his Epsilon Vie badger brush, I had thought it was going to be way too big for my liking but I was pleasantly surprised. I think it may be because prior to trying the Epsilon my only other experience with a bigger brush was my SOC where the hair tends to fan out makes which I find makes it a bit less user friendly for face lathering. The Epsilon was a real soap hog but I found the performance was excellent and it has really changed my mind on bigger brushes.

Prior to this shave the Kamisori was the only straight I had ever used so I was very happy that everything I had learnt I was able to utilise with the Manaslu. In fact I actually found the Masaslu a lot more user friendly compared to the Kamisori and it also gave a great audible feedback which I really enjoy. Despite this, the Kamisori will remain my go to razor which should hopefully make my ultimate transition to an asymmetrical Kamisori a little easier. In saying that though I will be including the Masaslu from time to time for testing purposes while I continue to use it to practise honing it. It really is a great razor in it's own right and I really appreciate @Mark's generosity in giving it to me to practise with.

Throughout my three pass shave (ATG, XTG, WTG) there was no point I felt like I was in any danger of nicking myself. The end result was as close a shave as I've ever had previously and while that was greatly satisfying in and of itself, the added knowledge, knowing that I had put the edge on the razor took my satisfaction and feeling of achievement to a whole other level.

I really have to thank both @Mark and especially @Draco Noir, I have so much to learn but I couldn't ask for better or more generous teachers. I am one very lucky Grasshopper! :)

FRAT:
Previously the only straight I've every used was my trusty Kamisori. This shave I used a western straight which I also honed from a blunt edge to shave ready. This gave as close a shave as I've ever had and was also nick free! Very satisfied :D

Pre: Blind Barber Facewash
Razor: Fatboy (7)
Blade: Astra SP (2)
Soap: MWF
Brush: Simpson Duke 2 Best
After: Myrsol Agua Balsamica

I added a little bit too much water too early when lathering the MWF so not as shiny as I normally get. Still slick and protective though. No nicks or weepers and the post shave feel is out of this world. An excellent shave.

Pre: Nil
Brush: Wee Scot
Soap: Shaver Heaven - Dragon Noir Tallow
Blade: Parker 510
Post: Thayers & PAA Douglas Fir

Last shave from this soap. As it was just a ring around the outside of the tub loading a big brush would be an exercise in futility. The Wee Scot soaked it up however by along me to run it around the perimeter.

This blade continues to perplex me. I'm on attempt two at getting the edge up to my standard. Still not there so back to the stones today for #3.

Lovely cool (mid teens) winters morning. Enjoying the crisp cool air and the warm scents of winter. PAA Douglas Fir, for me is all winter.

Nice shave, very near BBS but with irritation due to a sub standard edge.

Pre-Shave - Shower & Proraso White
Brush: - RazoRock Plissoft
Soap/Cream: - Dr Harris Windsor Shaving Stick
Razor: - Razorock Mission
Blade: - Gillette Silver Blue (2)
Post Shave: - Alum Block / T.N. Dickinson Witch Hazel Astringent / Natio Maximum Razor Relief Healing Lotion
Fragrance: - Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male EDT

It 1:10am pass midnight in Washington, DC and when I get up around 7:30am in the morning straight after my shower and ready for shave, any way I'm going to bed :sleep:

Cheers

That is an absolutely incredible collection featuring some exceptional pieces, beyond that there is little more I could possibly add.

Respect mate, really appreciate you sharing this with the new fellow :)

Razor: EJ DE86
Blade: Shark SS
Brush: EJ Best Badger
Soap: WSP Rustic Shave Soap (Barbershop)
After: TN Dickinson WH with Aloe Vera

Middle of the day Sunday shave with the last of my Shark sampler pack. Probably pushing a 3-day growth by this time. I've found with the Shark I can get a DFS on the first shave, but I can't get a second shave without putting in more effort than it's worth. Your face/beard/razor may vary, but that's what works for me :)

Really nice relaxed shave, no nicks, and a fine bowl of lather from the WSP.

Pre-Shave: Cypriotian Olive/Argan Oil soap, cold water
Razor: ATT S-1 Colossus
Blade: Ladas (1)
Brush: Rudy Vey Shavemac 2-band
Lather: Mike's Hungarian Lavender
Post-shave: Alum, Barrister & Man Kyovu Original, Australian Emu Oil

What a wonderful Sunday shave - enjoyed every second of it. The large handle goes really well with that head - had a super close, yet absolutely problem free shave - what a difference to my last one...

The lather was stellar - picture here - but I knew this. The brush and soap are just made for each other. Hope you all have a great Sunday (y)

@saku39 - photo matches the article perfectly.

:) Ever felt like you cheated with your shave. Tonight I got a taste of how men must have felt when them thar new fangled SE razors arrived on the scene back in the late 1890's and they could choose an almost instant shave experience compared to their daily longer straight razor shave. Tonight I couldn't devote the amount of time I wanted for a straight shave so used my Gem Clog Pruf. Great shave, seriously good - but over before, well it was over far too quick. 2 passes for DFS. A great shave but not anything like the total experience of a scary sharp blade close to the skin.

Brush: Whipped dog - shedder. Excellent brush though. Makes good lather and plenty of it. Soft on the skin and distributes the lather very well.
Soap: My combo super sauce in warm scuttle.
Razor: Gem Clog Pruf.

Back to a straight tomorrow night. :) Just for the adrenalin.

Pre: GFT Lime Skin Food
Brush: Wolfwhiskers Ubersoft II
Soap: B&M Vetyver Santal
Razor: iKon B1 Slant
Blade: PSI
Post: Alum, Witch Hazel, Eufros Jabonman Vetiver Haiti

The more I use this brush, the more I appreciate it. The synth performs very well and it's so comfortable. Whipped up a thick fat moist lather that provided me with much glide, protection and comfort. The scent of the vetyver santal is right up there as well. I love vetiver scented products. Lather shots here,

I managed to achieved such a close shave with my Slant, without any irritation or nicks tonight. Personally, the PSI is probably the perfect match for both of my iKons. I am enjoying this combo very much. 2 pass + touch up.

Finished off with the usual suspects, vetiver vetiver, naturally I'd reach out for my favourite balm. It's a struggle to not pick the balm for my daily shaves.
