I'm sure they've improved a whole lot since then (which much have been 10 years ago), plus they are known for their whisky more than their white spirits aren't they?

@eggbert - you are spot on. Their gins and vodkas were not flash early on, but I've heard they have come good. I can vouch for the quality of their whisky; it has a unique quality of being fiery yet smooth, with great flavor and a long finish.

I know and as part of a cold winter night shave here in Adelaide. Nothing super strong but "I can" make it as strong as I want - or don't want :)

You are about to become VERY popular I would suggest ...

Pre: Musgo Real Lime Oil Soap, Myrsol Antesol and Emulsion
Brush: Simpson Chubby 2 Super Badger
Soap: I Coloniali
Razor: Feather AS-D2
Blade: Feather (2)
Post: Myrsol Antesol and Emulsion

Nice three pass shave. Still working out the I Coloniali soap - it is quite thirsty, and didn't quite get the slickness I desired, thus a few neck weepers. Can't really complain, however; a lovely post shave feel.

Pre: Prorasso Red
Brush: Chubby 2 Best
Soap: Shaver Heaven - Oatmeal Stout
Strop: Kanoyama #30000
Blade: Bengal 7/8 Full Hollow - DIY scales
Post: Thayers, PAA - Douglas Fir

Finished restoring & rescaling this Bengal. Chip removal and bevel set of Chosera Pro 1k, refine & finish on vintage JNat. Shave was excellent, although the edge was a tiny but too harsh. 95% there though. Result was BBS even in the difficult spots, no blood and short lived irritation. Love the size of this blade and I think it will become one of my favourites. Still in love with the Oatmeal Stout and finding it hard to pass it over for other soaps at the moment. All in all great shave with an satisfaction rating of 11/10!

Get your DIY on!

Soap: Barrister and Mann Bay Rum
Post: Stirling Bay Rum Post shave Balm
Aftershave: Ogallala Bay Rum, Lime & Peppercorn

Really liking the Bay Rum scents this winter, a great 2 pass shave this morning. It's rare that I use an aftershave alcohol based splash but the scent from the Ogallala was just too hard to resist - I can't wait to start using the soap once I have made my way through my Bay Rum soaps already in rotation.

Nice work @Sxot - that razor will definitely be special after the work you put into it! What's the wood you used for the scales - Silky Oak?

Thanks, and yes, Silky Oak. I inherited some furniture from my in-laws old house that they bought furnished in the 60's. The cupboard wasn't going to be used (built-ins) so we cut it down to just the bottom drawer and made a seat/blanket box out of it. The scales were cut from timber from that cupboard so they are actually vintage timber on a vintage razor. Full thread here on the scale making process.

Pre: Shower/ Face wash
Soap: Mike's Orange & Cedar
Brush: Simpson's Chubby 2 'Pure'
Razor: Dovo 5/8
Post: Alum, Thayers and Captain's Bay Rum Balm

Great shave this morning. 2nd go with Mike's Orange & Cedar, absolutely love the soap. Took a bit of time to creating a great face lather; but when you achieve it, it is very slick and has great cushion. The razor performed amazing today, very sharp and vocal and very easy to zip around the face with confidence of not slicing myself open. Then to finish up the usual alum and thayers, plus the introduction of the Captain's Bay Rum Balm, an amazing product as well this one, very soothing and none greasy feel after applying and the scent is top notch. (y)

Good to be back after a little hiatus, enjoy your shaves gents:)

Face Wash : Musgo Real Lime Soap
Pre-Shave : Razorock Peppermint Pre-Shave
Brush : Simpson Commodore
Soap : Meissner Tremonia Dark Limes
Razor : Nobels AA folding kamisori
After Shave : Alum, Top Seven Balm, Bvlgari Man

Intensely enjoyable shave today. After the obligatory face prep, I managed a superb lather from the Meissner Tremonia. The scents of these soaps are really intriguing to me - none of them is ordinary, all of them make a bold statement. The Dark Limes in particular really is a "dark" scent - there's some seriously pleasing complexity going on.

I pulled out one of my little hotrod razors today - a Nobels AA folding kamisori. With a cutting edge about the length of a DE blade, handling is its middle name. The narrow blade makes it easier to ensure that every stroke is a really good one - in fact it occurred to me today that with enough attention to detail and skin stretching, a DFS+ in one pass is probably achievable. Anyway, 2 blazing passes saw me BBS everywhere above the jawline, and I had a ball doing it. Of all the variations in straight razors, I think the Japanese style short blade Kamisori is my favourite for both the driving and the results.

I finished with Bvlgari Man for today's fragrance - pretty traditional in approach but very pleasant and brilliant value for money.

Soap: summer breeze- Shaver Heaven
Brush: Best badger
A/S: myrsol blue
Razor: 13/16 Henckels friodur

This is my very first full shave with a straight, I decided to ditch the beard and get to business. No nicks or cuts but a bit of irritation around my chin. Started WTG then did an XTG pass but decided not to push my face any further just yet. I'll get it used to being shaved again.

And I should shout out to @Substance as he completed a rescale for me on this razor. Really like the way it looks he does great work.

Wow, well done @nathan1983 - from a beard to first ever straight shave just like that? That is sure a brave start to things. Good luck with your journey :)

It is a big step, not sure I like my mug but I'll get used to it again and it needs a tan for sure. I'm having some time off work so I thought it's a great time to get into a rhythm and practice my technique.

Pre shave: Shower
Soap: Mystic Water - Vanilla Sandalwood
Brush: Epsilon Vie long badger
Razor: Kikubishi asymmetrical grind folding kamisori AKA The Firecracker (On loan from @Draco Noir)
After shave: Myrsol blue

A little while ago @Draco Noir set the challenge to skip the WTG pass and start with XTG. There were some parameters to this experiment such as to make sure there wasn't too much growth and not to be too pig headed (he know's me too well, I'm a stubborn challenge accepted type person) and if needs be reverting to a WTG pass. Although I had been keen on trying this experiment earlier I've really been enjoying prolonging my shaves as much as possible but after reading his SOTD post today I bit the bullet.

I spent a bit longer on the XTG pass than I usually do making sure I didn't miss anything. I'm not sure if using a western grind straight would of made the job easier or not but I found the asymmetrical grind up to the challenge and got pretty much a DFS all round.

As always I didn't want to put the razor down so I couldn't help but throw an ATG pass which left me BBS. Irritation wise I didn't notice a difference as when I include the WTG pass I get little if any irritation anyway. It was a great experiment which showed me that I didn't necessarily need to do a WTG pass to achieve a great shave however one less pass means less time with the razor so unless I have a time crunch I will continue to keep up the WTG pass.

FRAT: Experiment by missing the WTG pass and instead starting with XTG. Found that a WTG pass isn't necessarily required to achieve a great DFS or BBS shave.

Pre-Shave: Cypriotian Olive/Argan Oil soap, cold water
Razor: Supply Provisions Single Edge Medium
Blade: Schick Injector (3)
Brush: Rudy Vey Shavemac
Lather: Mike's Hungarian Lavender
Post-shave: Alum, Barrister & Man Kyovu Original, Australian Emu Oil

Finally a blood free shave with the razor - and it was close as well. So I guess the medium plate is the right one for me. Now if I could only manage to get a smooth/enjoyable shave...

But I had loads of fun with the brush and soap - a stellar combination and the lather shot proves it :D
