Been very busy at work so I'm a little behind my SOTD posts.
Tuesday's Shave

Razor: Kikubosho asymmetrical grind folding kamisori (AKA 'Firecracker')
Brush: Epsilon Butterscotch horse hair
Soap: MWF
After: Nivea AS Balm
I tend to like a challenge and so far I've been pretty successful with the straight however today I met my match. I tried to do an entire shave only using my left (non master) hand. The fact that I hadn't even tried to accomplish the same feat with my right hand didn't deter me in the slightest, nor did the fact I was using an asymmetrical grind razor. Yes, stupid I know.....in my head it seemed like a good idea at the time.
It's not that I set out to do it, it's just that I always start with the left and I part way though I thought why not continue with the left rather than swapping to the right. I didn't get very far and cut myself, although very mildly during the WTG pass on my right cheek. I abandoned my attempt as I knew that if I kept going it would be joined shortly thereafter with a whole lot more nicks.
I ended up finishing off the WTG pass with the right hand and leaving it at that. Getting my ambitions confused with my capabilities definitely put a slight dent into my normal enjoyment of a shave but it was enjoyable nonetheless.

I had been reflecting on Tuesday's shave and went in with a different mind set, rather than on a whim haphazardly trying to complete an entire shave using my left hand I began the shave with the mindset of focusing solely on doing the WTG pass with the left hand. I think knowing that it was going to be more of a challenge than I had originally anticipated held me in good stead and once I worked out how to best position the razor on the right side of my face with my left hand things fell into place. I managed to get the job done without nicking myself which I was very satisfying.
I decided not to press my luck and completed the XTG pass using both hands as usual.
Perhaps when I have consolidated and refined my technique I may revisit the challenge and potentially even try to take it further with XTG and ATG passes but this will not be any time soon.
FRAT: Tried to complete a shave utilising only my left (non master) hand, nicked myself in the process and abandoned the idea for that shave. On the next shave was able to complete an entire WTG pass using only my left hand without nicking myself. While satisfying I won't be trying to repeat the process any time soon instead I will be focusing on refining my technique.
