Occams is on my "to-try" list. I saw many positive review already. Yes, I'm in Sydney and I'd live to try.(y) Thank you!

@dewynter Send me a PM mate with your address and I will send you a sample of the original and the crushed lime, I have a stockpile of both as Occam's is so damm good and I worry that Darcy may run out of stock :)

Preshave: Musgo Real Glyce Soap and Proraso sandalwood preshave cream
Razor: Weber Polished head on an Ikon handle
Blade: Feather(2)
Brush: Vie Long Horse
Soap: PAA Otra
Post Shave: Nivea Balm and Otra splash
Three pass shave. The Weber just gives you a BBS, it can give you nothing less. It seems it was designed for it. The Otra finished of a lovely shave.

Pre: GFT lime skin food
Brush: Wolfwhiskers Ubersoft II
Soap: B&M Vetyver Santal
Razor: iKon B1 Slant
Blade: PSI
Post: alum, witch hazel, Eufros Jabonman Vetiver Haiti

Saturday morning, nothing beats a good shave to start the weekend. Lather was great from B&M. Although I didn't loaded it as crazily as I normally would, but I still got a pretty decent lather.

Slants give me great two pass plus touch up shaves. I didn't get a chance to shave last night [emoji31], but the slant mowed through one and a half day's worth of growth easily. Such an enjoyable shave.

Finished off with my usuals, and my number one balm - Eufros Jabonman Vetiver Haiti. I smell like a good Islay scotch now, that ought to make me feel fabulous throughout the day.

More info on that brush please... ;)

Looking forward to reading your review on the Soap Commander, I have read a fair few good reviews on their products but their label choice and style (military/command centre/US Marines) always put me off buying for some reason.

Ahhh, yes, that would be the other way of describing - I said 'Star Trek' :)

Thanks @Mark1966 for the linkage, I will have to spend some free time throughly browsing and searching the previous forum threads. The M7 is certainly a nice brush. I particularly liked seeing the boxed AS2 however in that thread and reading your informed contribution.

Faux butterscotch, or butterscotch coloured, handles are now occasionally made as limited editions. 'Real' butterscotch arises from the impact of oxidation on the older types of rod they used in the vintage handles. It takes time to occur and can be uneven and or subject to other impacts - thus its collectability

This comment in particular drives me to seriously consider setting aside a reasonable sum of money to begin collecting brushes (only brushes, not razors) for the purposes of collecting and not using per se. The thrill in the hunt and the rarity and concept of preserving such things has an appeal.

In regards to daily use or 'daily drivers' as the Americans say, I'm on the cusp of setting aside funds ($400 to $550) for a Chubby 2 in Manchurian Butterscotch either from Simpson themselves, or via auction/online site. I have seen a few appear online for sale now and then, ideally I would like a new one as I would love to watch it bloom.

I have seen many CH 2 MB and indeed other 'Limited edition' Simpson models with more 'modern' handle colours and interpretations and while others seem to love and prize them I don't mind admitting here they are not for me. The ivory or butterscotch (be it faux or genuine) is the handle I want... I think in both cases the colours are timeless, classic and through being understated reflect desirability and quality that Simpson's of Britain and renowned for.

Cold water shave
Soap: Shaver Heaven Barbershop
Brush: Simpson Berkeley badger
Face lather
Blade: George Butler Keen 6/8
Post: Alum block, Pinaud Clubman, HUGE smile

Early shave for a Saturday. Around 7:30am this morning as I had things to do, places to be etc. This morning's shave was one of those, "you just know that you know" shaves. It was a normal day here in Paradise, blue skies, 19-20 degrees, gentle breeze, birds chirping. Nothing different to our standard day this time of the year. Stropped the blade, lathered up and competed the first pass. That felt smooth and close. Rinsed my face, lathered up and finished the second pass. Something is definitely happening this morning. Rinsed off, lathered up again and finished pass 3. What a shave. A small patch on the underside of my chin I took away with a quick pass. Some days "you just know that you know" this was "one of those shaves". This is what straight shaving is all about.

It's a lot of money and I personally like more popping colours...

But should you decide to go down that road, be sure to message Mark from Simpson directly and order exactly the brush you are after...

I understand they don't do real custom work anymore, but will certainly accommodate handle materials and knot specifications (at least to a certain degree).

I have decided in my mind on my next one already - hope the artisan in question agrees with my thoughts :D

The more popping colours really grind my gears :D but I still appreciate and respect your and other peoples collection of those limited edition American brushes you all seem to like with a passion. I forget the name of them now

Thanks for the advice again mate, it's definitely appreciated!

If I can't find one I like via auction, or forums or w/e I will drop them a line, I am really only looking at a Butterscotch (faux) or ivory CH2 in MB..it would have to be a fairly amazing handle in another colour to get my interest.

I will also pressure mark to sell me one of his Butterscotch brushes once I peruse his quite frankly incredible collection and see one I like...It will be a case of him naming his price but I'm ready for that..if of course he even entertains the idea of parting with one to fit my specification :P

I'm not sure that I have any which would fit the bill for you @todras!

My largest are the AS2 which was pretty nice in its box and I almost didn't you it ...

I do have a Keyhole 2 which is NOS but that is part of the kit for my son on his 18th.

Others are smaller, a Duke being the largest probably. I've had bigger but decided larger brushes were not for me. Try @Nightguard as he sometimes has some tricks up his sleeve...

Pre: Pears Transparent soap
Razor: Gillette open comb
Blade: Astra green (1)
Brush: Simpson Duke 2 "Pure"
Soap: St James of London "Mandarin & Patchouli"
After: Alum, Myrsol Formula "C", Natio balm

Still getting a somewhat uncomfortable shave with the Gillette. However, surprisingly I'm getting quite a decent shave out of it.
The new Astra at least didn't tug on the whiskers, but I'm not convinced this is the right blade for the razor yet.
Will give it a couple more yet to settle down, but I think some other blade may be needed in this razor.
Shave still feels good this evening as I type this. :)

Some of the Gillette razors need a different shave angle (handle either further away or closer to the face). The Open Combs are often more efficient than the usual bar razors and reward good technique. Sounds like you're getting there. Keep at it. I love my OCs -they are great shavers.

Weber razors stopped making their razor heads a couple of years back. Every now and then one pops on the market but at crazy prices. In most cases you'd be better off buying the stainless steel Rockwell for a better price!

I know you're in Sydney @cranky so if you make the upcoming meet I can lend you mine. [emoji6]
