Sierra Nevada make a pretty good standard porter as well. I will use some of the porter when it is fermented to make some soap as another experiment.

Well the cold is back in Sydney in a relative sense I guess. Woke up feeling like some TOBS with a little assistance from a couple of extras to introduce some spice notes, dull the sweetness and provide a little more complexity.

There is not a great deal one can really say about TOBS that has not already been said, it's simple to lather, always produces an even consistency and result that has quite good. It's does not have brilliant cushion or post shave feel but it's far from poor. As I use so many artisan creams and soaps like most of us I get used to expecting superb cushion, glide and finish..in sum soap that has been hand made by skilled artisans. The TOBS is not bad, actually it's a good cream it is just not anywhere near the level of the of the soaps and creams I normally use. It's main strength to me is the base of it's scent which I quite like and always have, it's very traditional and pleasing in cooler weather.

I dialled the old Merkur back to 2.5 this morning due to the cream and was glad I did. The usual 2 passes but with a little more touching up than I am used to from the less aggressive setting. None the less a very enjoyable Sunday morning shave. The TOBS is a basic scent and not overly nuanced so with some assistance from a dab or two of Ogallala and the quite superb Bon Vivant from Chatillon Lux (Caramel, Orange bitters, Black Pepper, Neroli, Ginger, Vanilla, Wormwood, Yuzu Citrus) I achieved the post shave feel and complexity of scent I was looking for to carry me through the day.

Pre-Shave - Musgo Real Glyce Soap
Brush: - Simpson Chubby 2 Best
Soap: - B&M Cheshire
Razor: - Muhle R41 on iKon OSS Handle
Blade: - GSB(1)
Post: - Alum, PAA Deja Fougere A/S (thanks to @silver)

Barrister and Mann soaps really lend themselves to the Merkur Man style of building lather advocated by @alfredus. Lather shots here. Coupled with the Chubby 2 it created an outstanding lather and made me fall in love with my Chubby all over again (insert hilarious Chubby gag here).
The R41 really reward good prep and I'm always mindful of using my slickest soaps. I think I shave better when I can feel the blade. It keeps me on my toes and I'm more tuned in to what I'm doing. Once again it gave a special shave (with 2 weepers admittedly). The only reason this isn't my daily driver is that there's nothing to shave for at least 36 hours afterwards and, dammit, I like to shave.

It's my anniversary today with my missus. This calls for a reach for the top shelf stuffs.

Fantastic weather in Melbourne, for now, sunny and beautiful. Grabbing some lunch with Misses Silver and then some steaks tonight. Enjoy your Sunday every one!

Cold water shave
Soap: Shaver Heaven Barbershop
Brush: Simpson Berkeley badger
Face lather
Blade: George Butler Keen 6/8
Post: Alum block, Pinaud Clubman, HUGE smile

Early shave for a Saturday. Around 7:30am this morning as I had things to do, places to be etc. This morning's shave was one of those, "you just know that you know" shaves. It was a normal day here in Paradise, blue skies, 19-20 degrees, gentle breeze, birds chirping. Nothing different to our standard day this time of the year. Stropped the blade, lathered up and competed the first pass. That felt smooth and close. Rinsed my face, lathered up and finished the second pass. Something is definitely happening this morning. Rinsed off, lathered up again and finished pass 3. What a shave. A small patch on the underside of my chin I took away with a quick pass. Some days "you just know that you know" this was "one of those shaves". This is what straight shaving is all about.
Same setup this morning, same great resulting shave but this mornings effort left a slight irritated feeling on my skin. Probably the blade at too sharp an angle causing more of a scrapping than a slicing action. DFS though and after I slapped on some Soap Commander balm the irritated sensation was all gone. Finished with Shaver Heaven Green Tobacco A/S which has a great scent but doesn't linger enough IIMO.

Happy Anniversary mate!

Hey - Happy shaving :)

Lazy day today before going back to work (Family and I were in Noosa for the week). Cleaned up the Omega travel brush before popping it back into storage for the next getaway. Those looking for a cheaper Wee Scot may want to check it out. Personally for me it has softer tips and more backbone.
