It's my anniversary today with my missus. This calls for a reach for the top shelf stuffs.

Fantastic weather in Melbourne, for now, sunny and beautiful. Grabbing some lunch with Misses Silver and then some steaks tonight. Enjoy your Sunday every one!

@silver - Happy anniversary! Happy wife, happy life.

My Very First Mastro Livi More Than Three Years Later

Three years later. More than three years later, to be precise. Today's shave has been done with my very first Mastro Livi straight razor, the one which started my passion for the job, art and talent of this great Italian craftsman and Master. This razor changed forever the way I shave and I see shaving. It made me discover the excellence of shaving and how a real razor should shave, it gave me a new light and vision about shaving and straight razors. In a moment it made me almost forget the rest of my beloved collection - today counting 268 straight razors - because of its superb quality, something so far from every other razor I have ever used in my life. And the good news is this razor shaves like the first day: in more than three years I have never honed or refreshed its edge on pastes, it still has a super cutting edge and shaves like a feather caressing my skin giving a very close and very smooth shave. Simply amazing.

Pre: Magno Classic Soap, Myrsol Antesol and Emulsion
Brush: Simpson Chubby 2 Super Badger
Soap: Tabula Rasa Steampunk
Razor: Feather AS-D2
Blade: PSI (2)
Post: Myrsol Antesol and Emulsion
Cologne: Tabac

Tabula Rasa Steampunk. An intriguing soap.
It is a very soft croap. Closer to a cream than a soap. I did not pick up on this, and bloomed it; something I would not recommend. When I loaded, I had lather everywhere in no time. Picking up on my mistake, I tried to get the optimum water/soap ratio, but had overloaded so much that it was tricky to judge. When lather explodes like this, it can look good, but still lack sufficient water to provide top notch performance.
All up had a good three pass shave, but I am sure that this soap can perform much better with the right technique. Looking forward to Round Two.

You can immediately sense that this soap is high quality. It has an amazing scent - very hard to describe. I would say earthy and nutty, but there is a lot more going on that I can't describe. Suffice to say that I thought it was enjoyable and unique.

Given Tabula Tasa is a newish product from Berlin, why not pair it with a Teutonic classic - Tabac. Whammo - the combo is an absolute winner! Next time I'm thinking to pair it with Speick or Alt Innsbruck.

Razor: Weber Polished Head on Bulldog handle
Blade: Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Platinum 'Black' [India] (1)
Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpson
Soap/Cream: Reef Point Soaps Dragon's Blood
Aftershave: Barberry Coast Shave Co Havana Splash

Time for another new soap. Decent start but feeling rubbish today, bad enough to bail on a meeting in Sydney, so had to be too excited about the shave. That is a sure sign of being under the weather. The ceiling fan in the spare room, where I'm trying to avoid waking my wife, and I are getting far to acquainted at around 3am. Anyway - pic looks good?

Preshave: Musgo Real glyce soap and Proraso sandalwood preshave cream
Razor: Weber polished head on an Ikon handle
Blade: Polsilver SI
Brush: Simpsons Commodore X2
Soap: Mystic Water The Brown Windsor
Post Shave: Nivea Balm, Fine American blend and YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme
Three pass shave not that it was necessary but just because I was enjoying it so much. Wonderful soap and the razor/blade combination is superb. Comfort and efficiency, what more could one ask for? The Fine AS is complimented by the EDT that it is based on.

A smooth shave with both razor and soap. During winter I always love the warm and spicy scent of the "Eastern Breeze" with lots of cardamon. I used an Eclipse Red Ring razor that I plan to sell soon. The distinctive red painted ring is often missing on these razors; some have been worn away, some never had the painted ring to begin with. This version of the razor has no logo (of an eclipse) on the crown of the cap, and unusually has no "Red Ring" etched into the side (only the word "Eclipse"). I love using these razors as they are always smooth and comfortable; the benefits of having both an open comb AND safety bar design. They are also very easy on the eye with their design.

On Sunday at our get together @alfredus passed on for trial his Supply single edge so that was my shave of the day.

First impressions:

The solid and I mean solid stainless steel makes for a very hefty razor. The balance felt odd but when I moved my grip towards the head and let the handle balance in the wind it was not too bad. The weight requires a very light touch as in little to no pressure and the shave is very nice. I found the head angle no different to any of my other injectors but it is different to using a DE.

I didn't use an exotic injector blade as I like the Personna blade and in this razor was very smooth.
Loading the blade is very simple as the removeable head is sprung loaded and can be released with minimal thumb pressure to insert the blade.
For my shave I used the middle gap head and it was for me a very mild comfortable shave.

Face lathered with long handled 24mm Whipped Dog and Mike's Lavender
Razor as mentioned
2 passes and a nice DFS.

Very nice razor.. I will use it for the remainder of the week then contact the next on the list.
Thabnks @alfredus

Sword: Schick J-Type
Suds: Gent's #3 / Omega S
Salve: Dickinson's Witch Hazel / Myrsol F/Extra

Recently, I fell in love with the Schick L. Only I didn't - my more knowledgeable fellow shavers informed at the recent meet up that I've been going in to bat with a J-Type! In any case, it's a killer razor. Highly recommended.

Brush: Chubby 2 Manchurian
Razor: Merkur 37c
Blade: Merkur
Soap: La Toja Stick
A/S: PAA Alcohol Free Bay Rum

An absolutely delightful shave today. Been a while since I've used La Toja, lathers at the sight of a wet brush, great slickness, cushion and post shave feel. Might have to grate it down and use it more often.

Cold water shave
Soap: Shaver Heaven Barbershop
Brush: Simpson Berkeley badger
Face lather
Blade: Dovo Inox 5/8 with Pearlex scales
Post: Alum block, Pinaud Clubman,

Top lather, top shave, tops. Shaves for the last week & a-half have all been great. Something has "clicked".

Can you post some Photos of the J-type you have? Thanks.

Pre: Pears Transparent soap, Hot towel
Razor: Gillette Open Comb
Blade: Astra green (2)
Brush: Simpson Duke 2 "Pure"
Soap: Proraso Green
After: Alum, Myrsol Formula "C", Natio after shave balm

Not sure if it was the different prep this morning - I would usually have a shower before I shave.
Or better lather, I seem to be able to make a better lather with the Proraso than anything else - probably due to using it so much before discovering this place... :D
Or maybe it was the fact that it was the second outing for the Astra?
I had a nice comfortable shave this morning! (y) Maybe I'm just learning how to use the razor... Who knows?
Anyway, was a very pleasant experience this morning.
More practise will be necessary as I noticed a small amount of irritation under my neck some time after the shave.
Definitely more promising this morning than previously though!:)
